Guys, so this should have been my fourth day using Japanese Rice Vinegar on my back, but I skipped it  I just woke up this morning and looked in the mirror and ARGH, I JUST WANT TO GIVE UP!!! But no, I won't :doubt: I'm just sick of having this crap on my back! I feel like I'm never going to get rid of it!! Sorry.... How long did it take for you guys to achieve results? I have acne on my back, but the main problem is on my shoulders. I'm covered in spots!! 😡 So far, I've been applying it in the morning after my shower, then again at night after showering. I've been using just my hands to apply it, but I really think a spray bottle will be easier. Sigh, so I'm starting up again tomorrow! Seems like this has worked well for a lot of people! I'm just impatient...I will gladly keep you guys posted on my progress...Oh, and here is my most recent pic. I took it yesterday:Cheers, guys 🙁
hey i use acv still and it has cleared up my back alot. maybe it could work for you hun. i have spots on my shoulders and thats about it, i use to have it like yours, all over.. it still sucks cause i want a fricken tattoo on my back >.<
Ah, it's good to hear it worked for you!! I just hope it works for me! Sometimes my pessimism just gets the best of me 🙁 Sucks how you can't get a tat because of this crap 😡 I've actually considered getting one myself, but pfffft it's going to be sometime before that happens!
i hope it will work for you! if i can be like every other guy in here thats hit on you lol you have a very sexy back. but yeahh thats for another time. but yeah man just try acv and stick with it. hopefully we can get our tats and not deal with this ish
I couldn't find any Japanese Rice Wine Vinegar anywhere. All I could find is Rice Vinegar, would it also work for this regimen? Or should I use Apple Cider Vinegar? Anyone care to share their progress with the ACV?
Edit:
The original poster was using Rice Vinegar, not rice Wine vinegar (are you talking about Mirin?). Whoops, i re-read it and it looks like the poster DID use rice wine vinegar. It still seems strange to me though, and plain rice vinegar has been working great for me so far.
Continued post:
Rice Wine vinegar probably has different properties and might even contain alcohol...I know it definitely smells and tastes different.
I started using Marukan Organic rice vinegar diluted to about 60% water 40% vinegar and applying with a cotton pad, and my skin seems to like it so far. My skin doesn't even dry out like people are saying. Maybe ACV is different, since a lot of people seem to say they need to apply moisturizer with that. When I use diluted rice vinegar, my skin feels soft and moist (reminds me of sticky sushi rice, haha), not dry.
Also, I hear they've used rice vinegar in Japan to lighten skin for centuries, so i wouldn't be surprised if it works for the hyperpigmentation (red/brown marks). I don't know if it's just my imagination, but the redness does seem to be dying down.
Keep in mind that all the vinegars seems to bring pus up to a head and help "purge" your skin. Like when I apply it as a spot treatment full strength to a cyst, it comes to a head by the end of the day, and the skin is thinner so it nearly pops on it's own. Then when it pops I apply the diluted version and it closes up the wound nicely.
It's only been a couple days, so I'll update in a few weeks and tell you how it's going!
Ok, I used 1 Tea Tree Oil (100%, undiluted) : 1 Apple Cider Videgar and ...somehow it doesn't feel right. My skin feels fresh, it has a nice smell but I am not sure I put the right quantity of TTO. Should I have put less?i think you should probably use way less tto
ive been using this for about 2 weeks and getting great results everywhere but my shoulders/top of back area!
did acv, might try rice vinegar instead jsut to see if that does better
is rice vinegar the sam as rice wine vinegar. i've also seen brown and white rice vinegar at whole foods, which should i use?
So far, rice vinegar is working better for me than ACV. I use regular japanese rice vinegar (marukan brand), not the wine kind. Maybe someone should experiment and try them on different part of the back? Half wine and half regular? that would be interesting. Just make sure you don't get the seasoned kind (it's red). 😉
Haha, I had the same dilemma - I almost went for the brown rice vinegar to replace my old bottle, but it's whole foods brand so I didn't want to experiment too much. Brown rice has more nutrients than white rice, but I have no idea whether any of those nutrients end up in the vinegar. I doubt it. Anybody want to do some research?
Ok, so this website says that Rice Vinegar and Rice Wine Vinegar are the same thing:
http://chowhound.chow.com/topics/348205
Phew!
And hmm, looks like brown rice vinegar might be more nutritious, but this is from a website selling it. more research would be useful:
http://www.mitoku.com/products/ricevinegar/index.html
Edit: I just posted a question on Yahoo Answers so hopefully there is a nutritionist out there who knows the answer.
this sounds great.... i just tried some white wine vinegar on my bacne a couple of minutes ago, it burned for a minute but then stopped. YAYi really hope this works, living with bacne is a pain in the neck. (haha, also neck acne, get it?)
Are you using it full strength? Just be careful - most people dilute at at least 50% with water. But maybe the back is more resiliant. I don't know, I always opt for the less irritating version.
I have been using ACV for about 2 - 3 weeks (can't remember when I started exactly) and while I don't seem to be getting as many things popping up it hasn't really done anything for clearing me up with regards to scars and red marks. I wonder if Rice Vinegar would make a difference. Has anyone had success with one over the other?
Thanks!

The only time I used ACV was when it was mixed in with other stuff in a toner. But the primary ingredient was ACV. The toner didn't work well for me, but it might have been the other ingredients.
How are you applying the ACV? From what I've read on these forums so far, it seems the application matters (whether you rinse off, how diluted it is, etc.). I also used red wine vinegar, which definitely had a different effect (more drying for me) than rice vinegar.
I use a round cotton pad, dip it in rice vinegar mixed with water, and liberally apply it to my face so it's soaking, then I use light circle motions to exfoliate (I don't use any exfoliating cleansers). Let face air dry.
I've been using this method to clean my face and decrease my pimples, although it does help exfoliate so it should help with red marks (hyper-pigmentation) a little. I don't think it would do anything for scarring though. I'm sure it's not as effective as those AHA products that remove layers of your skin and bring "younger" skin forward, but my face needs something gentler so I'm sticking with the vinegar and don't mind the longer wait. Maybe when my pimples are completely gone, I'll try the most gentle AHA out there, but not now.
How would I go about integrating ACV with my current regimen?
I use BP wash in the shower (I shower, apply it, wait for 5 mins, then shower it off) and Differin (adapalene) before going to bed. I also use oral antibiotics.
I'm thinking of either applying the ACV in conjunction with Differin - Before or after? - or applying it some 15 minutes before showering.
The main problem area is my shoulders.

Since ACV is used like a toner, I would use it after showering, then let it dry, and apply differin. But keep in mind that a lot of people who use ACV purposely avoid medicated topicals, so I'm not sure if there are any contraindications with differin. It might be affected somehow, so I would check with your dermatologist.
Wow I'm certainly shocked to read such achievements people have had with this method.
I'll be using a similar method along with my own personal experiments. I have severe acne on back and light acne on face.
My experiment...
Excessive drinking of water.

I'm Currently out of shape because when Marines told me I couldn't do Boot Camp because of acne I stopped getting in shape. Now that winter is over I plan to revive my life hood dream. Also I gained 20+ lbs during break from last summer so I should look a lot bigger )
I started march 26th with white vinegar mixed with 3 parts water 1 part vinegar. I use a cotton pad and rub it onto my back. I noticed change quite quickly, and yesterday (March 31st) I made the switch to japanese rice wine vinegar. Let me just say the rice wine vinegar STINKS but it seems to be working very well. I will post again in a week or so to let all you know how its going.
Hey guysI dont pop into this forum much anymore - since I cleared up my acne I really haven't had the need - but I thought I'd pass on my experience to hopefully help some of you guys out there still struggling with acne.
Quick history on my acne before I pass on my personal bacne cure - I had pretty serious acne for 17 years (I'm 31) and had it on my face and back - the acne on my back was cystic and quite nasty whilst my face was generally less cystic.
My face has cleared up with the regimen (I use a lot less BP now than prescribed but it seems to keep my acne at bay, amazing considering I had used BP since day one but not knowing the appropriate way to apply it meant years of nasty facial acne).
My back resisted all attempts to rid it of acne - I tried accutane (was too harsh and I ended up sunburnt all the time back in Australia where I grew up so I gave up) and I tried a number of expensive topicals that did virtually nothing, I'd kind of given up hope an resigned myself to a life of bacne when I read about using vinegar on your face to get rid of hyperpigmentation so I thought I'd give it a go to get rid of the red marks on my back that had formed as a result of the cysts and would stay for weeks if not months before being joined by new fresh red marks.
So off to the supermarket I went and the only vinegar I could find was Japanese rice wine vinegar so I bought it home and tried it (I found it worked best by using it with a bit of Tea-Tree oil), well the results were amazing, within two weeks my back was clear of spots and the marks had faded significantly within three weeks. I have to say I was stunned. The truly strange thing is that its been almost a year since I first started using it (at the time nightly) my back is completely clear and now I no longer need to use it as regularly, I probably apply it once a week if that and my back stays acne free. I still have the original 375ml bottle from last year which shows how little I need to use these days.
If you've made it this far through this long post I'd like to say please give it a try (the smell can take a bit of getting used to but believe me its worth it) and thanks for listening and I wish you all the best in your fight with acne.
Good luck, hope it works for you like it worked for me.

So can i use just normal vinegar? and does it red rid of zits on your back or just get rid of nasty red marks?
@amylovehewitt - i put the vinegar/tea tree oil on my back and i do NOT wash it off. the night treatment that I apply before going to bed does get washed off in the morning, but then I put it back on after my skin has dried from the shower. Letting it soak into your skin and stay there is important, I think.
@katiepie29 - it has gotten rid of active red pimples on my back, has reduced the redness of other lesser spots, and has apparently healed the shadow spots that were left from old breakouts, so that those areas are now normal colored. I haven't had any new spots break out since I started this treatment.
@sparq - see below but I don't use an acne cleanser in the shower or on my face, I just use a regular gentle soap. I don't think rinsing with water alone would be enough.
I read this forum 3 days ago and started using OTTOGI BROWN RICE VINEGAR and I am shocked at how well it is working for me. The brown rice vinegar I use is available at H-Mart (a Korean grocery store) for around $3. It was the only vinegar I had around so that's what I've been using.
I've had back acne off and on for about 6 years. In the past, I used 10% BP and that usually cleared it up enough that I wasn't too embarrassed, but this year it's been much worse and BP hasn't helped at all.
I wake up earlier and putter around the house in the morning so that I can get this done before I have to get dressed and head out. It takes a while for everything to dry, and you may smell a little vinegary, but frankly I don't care since it's the only thing that has worked for me.
Here is the regimen that I've been using.
In the morning - wake up and ...
- Shower using mild Neutrogena rain bath soap (does NOT contain salicylic acid because I'm allergic to it). Use a soft loufah to gently spread the soap around your back, don't rub or scrub hard. Btw, I never exfoliate because I don't how to.
- Towel dry and wait 10 minutes for the skin on your back to air dry. I don't put a shirt on.
- Once skin is dry, squirt a thin layer of tea tree oil onto a cotton ball and then soak the cotton ball with the rice vinegar. I use the rice wine vinegar at full concentration. The first time I did this, it stung a little, but since then it's been fine. If it's too strong and stings too much, add a little water to the cotton ball before you add the vinegar. I get the whole upper back pretty vinegar-soaked. It should be wet, you might get little rivulets of vinegar running down your back if your cotton ball really soaked. That's fine.
- Gently rub the vinegar-soaked cotton ball all over the affected area. For me, that's the upper back.
- Let air dry for 10 minutes. Again, I don't put a shirt on.
- Spot treat with 10%BP (or less, if 10% irritates your skin). It's amazing that I can even spot treat now, because one week ago "spot treat" meant slather BP all over my back ... there were dozens of spots.
- Let the BP dry. 8 minutes. (Or skip this step if you plan to wear non-white clothing)
- Apply lotion liberally all over the affected area, including on top of the BP. I use a Clinique body moisturizer, but I think any lotion would do as long as it isn't greasy or pore-clogging. The clinique was what I had lying around.
- Let dry. 10 minutes.
- Put a shirt on and go do whatever. Don't wash anything off.
In the evening about an hour before going to bed ...
- Shower, let dry, apply vinegar/tea tree oil, let dry, apply BP, let dry, apply lotion, let dry
- Go to sleep and don't sleep on your back. I'm a back sleeper so this was actually the hardest part for me, but I think whoever said that pressing your back against a mattress all night doesn't help was probably right.
For those who were asking, I never wash the vinegar off after I put it on. I let it soak into the skin and once dry I get dressed and go out. It seems fine, and the smell is not really so bad. I guess you could dilute it more if you really can't stand the smell. To the person who asked whether to use vinegar with Differin or not, Differin never worked for me. I would probably suggest you try using vinegar without it for a week and see how it goes.
If you need to wear colored clothing, just omit the BP and keep the vinegar and lotion steps.
UPDATE 4/15:
I've been using the vinegar treatment for about a week now and my back is definitely better. I stopped using the BP for a few days and that noticeably slowed improvement. My back didn't get worse, but it didn't improve much for a couple days. Now I've got a regimen where I use BP at night only (with the vinegar and lotion) and shower it off in the morning. After the morning shower, I only apply the vinegar and lotion - this lets me wear non-white clothing during the day while still getting whatever healing interaction results from the BP/vinegar at night. This regimen has worked really well for me so far - after one week my back isn't perfectly clear yet, but it's good enough that I can now wear tank tops without feeling embarrassed.
UPDATE 4/25:
As the first poster and others pointed out, I think the tea tree oil is an important part of this regimen. I added tea tree oil about 10 days ago and it has helped a lot to speed healing and prevent the back from getting too irritated from the vinegar. I no longer have any active spots. The old spots are faded and almost completely gone. I have been using this treatment for a few weeks now and my skin is almost completely cleared up. Thank you so much to everyone who has posted their tips on this forum - I have struggled with my bacne for years and this is the first thing I found that finally worked.
do you put this on your back and then you wash it off?? do you put it on for 15 mins then wash it off in the shower? or do you put it on over night and wash it off next morning?? how do you delute it? do you mix it with tea tree oil? HELP
@amylovehewitt - i put the vinegar/tea tree oil on my back and i do not dilute or wash it off. the night treatment that I apply before going to bed does get washed off in the morning, but then I put it back on after my skin has dried from the shower. Letting it soak into your skin and stay there is important, I think. See my post above for more details on the regimen I'm using.
I feel like i have just been breaking out more, i have been on this regimen and just moved up to 3 teaspoons of water with 1 of the vinegar
if your back can handle it, I would stop diluting the vinegar too much. I use full strength rice wine vinegar with tea tree oil and really soak my back in that solution.
So all of the success stories led me to go out and by Rice Wine Vinegar and Tea Tree Oil.I Purchased:
Roland Rice Wine Vinegar (Seasoned/Aged)
Hollywood Beauty Tea Tree Oil
If you guys have found better brands, please do share. I am up to try anything else.
Words of concern: Please DO NOT put SEASONED rice vinegar on your skin! Use PLAIN rice vinegar instead. Seasoned has all sorts of stuff you don't want on your skin. I hope it didn't hurt your skin when you tried it - did it turn out okay?
