gah.
i know i'm new, but i've been lurking, and i searched.. if i missed that something like this has been asked before i'm sorry.
the question:
my skin is mostly okay, all acne symptoms decidedly in the mild range. a couple of blackheads but mostly i've been blessed.
but there's been this scary lump thing on my chin for like two weeks, red and swollen to varying degrees, and today i finally lost it and (i'm stupid, i know) started pushing and squeezing at it and now it looks bizarre, like dirty and purple (there is a dark purple dot/hole like looking thing in the center and everything is red around it- wtf??) and of course nothing came out of it.
is it possible to have a single acne nodule if you don't have them anywhere else?
and now i'm reading about how screwing with nodules/cysts means that they're going to last for MONTHS and i'm sorry, i know it sounds trivial, i know many people are way worse off, but a whole lot of things just started in my life and i'm freaking @ the thought that i could have a huge noticeable THING on my chin for months, which sounds like "forever" right now.
someone help? what do i do now?

You could always go to a derm and get a cortisone shot in it.. it works well, as in gone in 48 hours.
Or... you could go see a doctor who might prescribe antb's?!
My derm told me about this patient he has who one every three of four months gets a cyst and goes to him to get an injection in it. Apparently, has no other acne, jst once off cysts!! I WISH THAT WAS ME!!
But yeah, if its pissing off loads, go see a derm and dont pick it.. it makes them A LOT Worse and im speaking from experience but it can be oh so tempting i know!
Frankie
well, after overreactively moaning on the phone yesterday to every health service provider in the city , i have a g.p. appointment monday and a derm appointment november twelfth (arrghhhh).
can a plain ol doctor give a cortisone shot?
and do those still work on a nodule after you've tried to squeeze it? *crosses fingers*
i would put some neosporin in it to make sure that the bacteria that naturally occurs on your face doesnt get in there and make it worse.
yeah, I read that post too (after the fact).
some advice for your GP appt: they may try to give you bactroban - a topical antibiotic. This made my cyst worse. It made it turn yellow and hard and it grew. It was terrible. Talk to them but if they offer you a topical antibiotic ask for an oral one instead.
My cyst sounded like yours did when I went in to see my GP - actually I got a nurse practicioner as my doctor was too busy.
keep me updated. I totally feel for you.
My skin sounds like yours! Overall, I have been blessed...sure, I have always gotten the occasional "garden variety" pimple and some comedones, but for the most part, have always been clear as a bell.
I started birth control pills about 3 months ago (NOT for acne treatment) and the pill actually gave me 3-4 cysts! I went to the derm, who promptly prescribed me the oral antibiotic Doxycyline to clear the buggers up. Well...this worked...but there is one particularly persistent cyst that will not completely go away. It goes down, starts to fade, then "poof!" it's back again.
I tried everything to attack the thing...but I am finding that Tea Tree Oil is helping the most. I've only been using it for about 4 days, but I am now using it in place of my Duac (BP and Clindamycin combo gel) because of all of the negative things I've heard about BP. So...here's my regimen:
MORNING:
Wash with Tea Tree Foaming Wash from the Body Shoppe
Apply straight Tea Tree Oil to the cyst ONLY
Apply a homemade Tea Tree Oil/Cetaphil cream mixture as moisturizer, all over my face
NIGHT:
Wash with Tea Tree Foaming Wash from the Body Shoppe
Apply Differin Cream (let absorb at least 20 minutes)
Apply straight Tea Tree Oil to the cyst ONLY
Apply a homemade Tea Tree Oil/Cetaphil cream mixture as moisturizer, all over my face
Again, this is only day 4 of this regimen, but it seems to be working MUCH better than the Duac. The area where the cyst kept popping up is looking like it is really drying up and will heal nicely. So we'll see...
Please keep us updated on your progress. Cysts are the most annoying things I've ever experienced! Kinda like my ex-boyfriend...just when you think it's gone, it comes back again to get on your nerves!!!
