I still don't agree. Acne is not an autoimmune disease. It' just acne. Once I started eating plenty of meat (red but organic) and relaxed my dairy intake (plenty of feta and local organic sheep/goat cheeses but not cow though) I feel so much better. I eat buckwheat and corn too and potatoes. Lots of fruits, veggies and chocolate. A lot of coffee too. But, no processed foods though, I try to keep to whole foods.

The thing is, I don't believe eating imported fruits and veggies are necessarily better unless you're ancestors come from there. Eating cassava/ plantains and sweet potatoes won't do you any good if you are from northern Europe, you're body isn't rigged for this kind of produce. So, just eat real food from where you come from. I do eat plantains/sweet potatoes too but my whole diet isn't made up of it, I think that is silly.

Stress is more of a factor, and having to get all of these weird foods is definitely stressful. Acne is not caused by food. It really isn't. My family looks amazing on a normal diet, while I, when I was vegan or whatnot, looked awful. I understood that I needed meat and a varied diet. I can eat ice cream too without anything happening. It's fine. Exercise is more of a factor actually. Super important to get some intense workout everyday though I believe (or 6 days a week). That will bring stress levels down and definitely balance hormones.

I hope this reaches anyone that is struggling with eating disorders caused by these kind of forums.

okay that is great but guess what everyone is different body wise, foods contributes a lot when it comes to acne for different people. inflammation and insulin levels don't be blind when it comes to that. Me coming from experience, seen it first hand acne forming from eating to much sugar, process foods but that's just me. like everyone says, what might work for you might not work for the next person. She just needs to go seek professional help.

I know this is under diet, but I would instead recommend you seek treatment from a doctor or dermatologist. You'll most likely be put on antibiotics, retin a and some kind of topical antibiotic like clindamycin. Your skin WILL clear up and you won't be obsessing over what you're putting into your body. Stressing over your diet is only going to make things worse. Speaking from experience!

Oh, honey :smileys_n_people_59:. Hugs for you.

It sounds to me like you've stumbled into some dark territory (i.e. Orthorexia). Trust me, you wouldn't be the first around here. I've been there myself.

When our bodies are broken as they are, they're in a constant state of environmental confusion--they no longer know what they're fighting anymore, and therefore it feels like anything you put into it can be a potential "enemy". It's like you no longer have a working definition of what "healthy food" means. And all of a sudden, something that you're biologically wired to derive pleasure from instead begins inducing fear. This cognitive dissonance can be incredibly destructive.

Even though we're all here on these forums with the best intentions, it can sometimes feel like the blind leading the blind when it comes to nutrition and acne. I'm not sure where you live, but if you like, I'd be happy to help you locate a holistic/functional nutrition counselor in your area (or even over skype) that can set you up with the best tools and resources for your specific needs--body, mind, and spirit.

I feel like I've become a victim to this orthorexia thing as well. Ever since I got on here and read about the acne food connection, I started experimenting. Eliminating food definitely did help my acne 2 years ago to the point i was 95% clear.  I was also slowly able to introduce moderate amounts of sugar into my diet very slowly (took me months) and it wouldnt affect me that much. However, the antibiotics I took few months ago changed everything and now my face breaks out regardless of what I eat. I know removing white rice and wheat and butter will help me stay clear but I'm not going down that path again. I'm not eliminating any more food that I already have and I'm just slowly starting to accept that I'll have good and bad days with acne but i won't let it completely control my diet. It still controls my diet to a great extent anyways but I dont want to go back to how I was 3 years ago where I had eliminated almost everything including all spices and was eating bland food. The antibiotics caused damaged to my gut but ill have to give my body a few months to heal itself. Hopefully, someday, my acne will go back to being how it was between 2014 to may this year.

There are days where I'm still terrified of eating fruits. I miss eating fruits, I haven't had oranges in 3 years. Or mangoes. My mum would tell me I have a disorder but before I came across this post I'd tell myself she knows nothing about acne. Maybe she doesnt, but at least she is right when she says I have a disorder. Its just a battle in my head, every now and then. there are days I am scared of eating stuff I think Im not supposed to eat and there are days when I feel more confident and have a few pieces of chocolate. Anyways, food definitely affects my acne, i just need to learn to not let it control my life.

The effect of certain diet can only be seen after 2 months. That is approximately the time of a cell's life cycle.

But the negative effect of a certain food takes only several days to show up.

Meaning, it takes longer to have clear skin than to wreck our skin.

Also, checkout acne eistein website. He explains well how sugar, dairy etc affect our skin.

Fruits are okay cause the are naturally sweet. No added articficial sugar.
