Not sure what to make of that Dave, as I am currently using Progesterone (cream, 20mg / day at night) to combat hair loss.
There's a guy I know of on a hair forum who stopped his hair loss (NOT FROM B5) with progesterone. Prescribed by his dad who is a doctor, and advised him NOT to use finasteride as it's dangerous. Progesterone stopped his loss and thickened his hair since 2014 with no side effects. He uses 10mg every other day.
So... I'm not sure if increased progesterone would be bad for us, hair wise..

I actually seem to have some quite strong hairs growing back on my left temple (not so much on my right for some reason). I use minoxidil which tends to cause soft little wispy hairs to grow that never amount to anything so I put it down to that before but this is different, when I run my hand over that area there's this dense and strong feeling stubble.
I have attached a picture, it was pretty tough to take, was wondering what you guys think. Obviously I would be delighted if it's growing back but I'm not sure why. I did take inositol for about 1 month in August and then stopped because my hair seemed to falling out much more, though perhaps that was just the weak old hairs making way for new ones. I'm trying to decide whether I should get back on the inositol because the length of the hairs would probably indicate about 1-2 months growth.
Do you really recommend minoxidil? How long have u been using it? Do you feel it's helped slow the hairloss?
My worry with using it is wrinkles, and it losing efficacy and making hair worse after..
Has anyone cured their hairloss from B5 with finasteride/dutasteride?
Old threads, people with hairloss from B5 pretty much took these and were cured... has any of us tried this???
Long time absent from this thread but I've finally taken the plunge and started my finasteride tablets (about 15 months after I was prescribed them...they are still in date). All my fears have been pretty unfounded so far. Only side effects are slight ache in the prostate area, a little more shedding and a little more insomnia (have always been a rough sleeper though so it's hard to tell if its because of the pills)
Two weeks in and I don't feel nearly as bad as I thought I would. Has anyone on here had any success on fin? i'm combining it with occasional Nizoral shampoo and i'm hoping it will stabilise things until I decide to get an FUE transplant in the next year. I can't help but feel a bit hard done by considering my older brother has thick long hair and no loss whatsoever, and my dad was in his sixties before his hair began to thin.
Personally I stI'll think it has nothing to do with dht but that's just my opinion I only shed small hairs I only ever see a couple of longer ones every now and then. There's no doubt finasteride will help but I still belive this whole thing is adrenal related. I guess we'll never know.
Shedding is pretty alarming at this point. I can see my scalp more than ever when I look in the mirror and it looks as if I have obviousdiffuse thinning now instead of justa receding line:'(
I've read different opinions that this is a good thing as the terminal hairs are falling out and ushering ina new cycle but have read about others who have been on the fin for years and have had no improvement or that its gotten worse.
Keep us updated bosie I know for a fact me and Mike have wabred to try fin for years but never hadone the balls lol. How's the side effects so far? Libido? And how much areally you taking mate?
That's great Elmechanico. What do you put it down too? Any vitamins/oils etc?
Hair is still shedding pretty bad. No other sides from the Fin at all. It's only been 3 weeks though.

You gotta tell us what you did please!
I'm shedding like mad at the moment but at the same time those new hairs have kept growing into proper ones, not sure what to think.
I'm taking the usual 1.25 recommended dose. With the amount of shedding I was having last week I did wonder about upping the dosebut I don't think that would be wise.
The plan is to get an FUE transplant in the New Year but all I'm hearing is that the UK isn't the best place to have one done. Which does complicate things somewhat.
Honestly, I feel like I can't really tell. If I told you you have to take X supplement or go do Y I would be lying.
I have taken a shit ton of different supplements, tried multiple oils and stuff like aloe vera, improved my diet, increased protein intake, taken high quality iron and so on.
These all play a factor probably.
Unfortunately I also took Finasteride for a short while(2 weeks) but stopped 1.5 years ago. This shit is poison.
Now if I run my hand through my hair I don't shed a single hair, just like before B5. After B5 when I rubbed my hair over my desk there would be 20+ strands of hair. Also when I wash my hair I don't notice any shedding.
I only ever noticed hair loss at the temples but I was shedding all over. Now it seems like the hair on my temples is thickening up again and very slowly my hairline is growing back in.
It could be due to a variety of reasons, I don't care very much about my hair anymore.
My only advice would be to avoid Finasteride like hell.
Read up on how they came up with the drug in the first place.

Not sure if this is all that helpful but my acne was reduced by about 95% just by finding out what worked on my skin and getting a good, regular skin care routine going. It's just my luck that as soon as my acne went away that i developed significant hair loss Have you tried Dan's method with BP?
Seriously considering stopping the Nizoral shampoo ...the shedding is just alarming whenever i use that shampoo yet people swear it's great when coupled with Fin.

so you stopped your hairloss by not eating salt. That's not going to help us

So you stopped B5, and now just use Dan's method and have clear skin? The thing is, although I haven't tried Dan's exact method, I've used a gentle cleanser, BP, and moisturizer combo in the past and it had no effect...
I gave up a while ago my battle with hair loss from vitamin b5. I figured I just had to live with it and hopefully make enough money to afford a hair transplant in my 30s (im 25 now) and pray is not too late. So while I was searching for acne treatments, someone in another forum said that folic acid helped him so I tried. Im taking 10mg now. My acne is fading fast but also my hair loss improved a lot! I was shedding 100-150 hairs a day and now less than 20. I dont know if it was a coincidence or not but I hope this can help somebody.

It was not because of genetics or male pattern baldness.By eliminating candida, no more dandruff, no more skin shedding on scalp and no more hair loss.
I grew new hair on my scalp with Chinese herbal medicine and having a clean diet certainly helped. Just go to any Chinese herbal medicine store in your area and ask something for hair loss. They will give you some pills made of Chinese herbs. You have to take them for a few months. I can't tell you how many because everyone is different but usually it's between 3 and 6 months.
what was the name of the Chinese medicine? I have tried many different Chinese medicine to no effect

blink cheers mate that's some great info. What brand folic acid are you taking? Are you taking anything else or just the folic acid?

Actually I didn't use Dan's method. At the age of27 I hit rock bottom with acne and had beentrying to cure it through diet fads which never helped. I was massivelydepressed butIn the end I just stumbled on a good skin care routine. I went back to the doctor and he prescribed me duac cream which really worked with the spots I had,and then I began to realise that my acne was caused by dry flaky skin that got inflamed over time so I began to use a simple cleanse, medicate and moisturise routine and it's improved my skin no end. I still get clogged pores but nowhere near the level they were and they rarely get inflamed andI haven't had any new scars/deep pitted pock marks since.
I doubt myskin care routine would be any use to those with cystic acne but I think a good moisturizing routine is essential if you suffer from dry skin
Hair is shedding like crazy. I've stopped the Nizoral as it's too scary but I thought the Fin would have calmed my sheddingby now, not make it worse. For a lot of people it takes up to six months to work though.
Has anyone else gotten their vitamin D levels tested? I've gotten a myriad of blood tests (thyroid, iron, hormones, etc.) but only vitamin D has returned out of range. Currently in the slow process of raising mine.
No way to know if it's related or not with just my tests though. Doesanyone else have test results they could share? Or would anyone else maybe want to go get their's tested?
I'm just waiting for my results so I'll let you know next week. Having 50 things tested
Hi Guys,
FYI... I am taking ferrochel Iron every night either 27mg or 27mg x2. Also 20000 iu of Vit D per day. Also progesterone cream (applied on testicles and face). Also trying high dose Vit C, Lysine, L-Hydroxyproline combo recommended by someone who has studies natural hairloss remedies for years. (He is a veteran from 15yrs on hairloss forums and is very smart, says this is one of the only things that works that is natural, you will notice less shedding, and darker hair color (less follicle miniaturization)NOW progesterone cream, makes face look younger, and zero acne, good stuff.
Bosie: Please keep us all updated with your fin regimen. Your may need to switch to Dutasteride if your shedding on fin continues for too long. Some people just respond weird to fin but on Dut the loss stops dead in it's tracks.. many many cases of this happening. Also with Dut you can take it once a week fi you like.. or 2x, 3x times a week.
I would recommend everyone take 20,000 iu of Vit D a day, it's so so so important for anagen phase of hair cycle. Most people are deficient as well.
