@elmechanico, yes many of us have, no luck.
Update: I stopped RU. I was using much less than 1mg per day and the sides eventually came back and are not worth it in my opinion. Going to look for other options.
I am still using Rogain 2x per day but I am still shedding a lot. Going to go back to the dermatologist and have a steroid prescribed for my scalp to help with inflammation, itching, and dandruff that will hopefully slow down the shedding.
Something I have been looking into for years are B12 shots/injections. There are some dermatologists that give them for telogen effluvium and they seem to work well. Might be worth a shot (pun).
@Elemechanico
Not heard of those. Are you trying them at the moment? How's your hair these days?
They are two amino acids responsible for hair growth/production.
My hair looks really good except for my hairline, that's the only place I seem to be thinning which leads me to believe it's MPB.
It could also be a maturing hairline because it started when I was 17 and a half but it would be a weird coincidence if the maturing hairline started exactly at the same time as I took B5. It's now been a bit more than a year since taking B5 and my hair looks and feels really good except for the hairline. I'm not really shedding anymore but my hairline is bothering me, that's why I'm considering starting Finasteride once I turn 19 in April.
I was able to stop the scalp problems and the shedding and I got some slight regrowth as well but my hairline is still worse than a year ago.

Do you have any idea if the shedding has stopped any supplements/treatments (and in that case, which) or if it just stopped by itself?
Nothing new from here really, had the "scalp test", which was more just a quick comb-through of my hair. She didn't understand the whole situation of course, and found it weird that I am shedding on the entire scalp. I will be starting a treatment with daily topical application there. It is probably completely without effect, but it wasn't as expensive as i thought, and I'm just pretty desperate.
I was also at the dermatologist, but on an unrelated issue, and she didn't really have anything to say on the nail- and hairloss.

I did ask my doctor if taking Fin with anti-depressants was dangerous and he said it wasn't, so i'm tempted to go with the whole Regaine/Nizoral/Fin combination. If I get any severe side effects then I could just stop immediately. One potential drawback for me is that I've heard that this combo does do a good job with the crown area of the head but it wont help for regrowth around the temple area, which is definitely my problem area
It definitely works on the hairline area as well, they just can't claim it does for marketing purposes.

I am also heavily considering hopping on Finasteride but you should do a lot of research regarding potentially terminal side effects. How old are you again? I am a bit wary of taking Finasteride at age 19 as I was quite a late bloomer(hence my acne struggles at this age) and I could potentially still be in puberty.
I am really not sure. I have taken quite a wide range of supplements over the last few months(and still do!) and tried quite a few topical solutions as well. I took the B5 for 2 weeks in November 2013 and for the next 6-7 months I was shedding heavily and then it kind of tapered down and got better and better.
I am kinda busy right now but if you look through my last 10 posts or so you will probably find a good description of what I used. I will check back on here tomorrow and if you still have questions I can post my "routine" then
Regarding your dermatologist, I was also at a derm about a year ago, right as I was going through the shedding. He looked at my scalp and said I just had some minor inflammation(he said it was seborrheic dermatitis). Most derms know very little about hair loss and how it is caused, I would never blindly trust anything they say but I assume you do not do that anyways.
Topical treatment with anti-androgens or anti-inflammatory substances can be really helpful, inflammation is killer for hair. I use aloe vera gel for that purpose, I just lather that shit on my scalp
@ Elmechanico I'm 28. I'm at a Norwood 3 stage ('V' shape) but no thinning on the crown area. If I could get back a little bit of hair with Fin and Regaine then it would be worth it.
Yes 19 is pretty young for Fin but I don't think its unusual. There are guys on Bald truth talk that take it around your age.
Thanks for that link, it's very encouraging.

Did you have any hair loss before B5? How was your hairline then and how old were you?

I've always had the widows peak 'V' thing because that's the just the way my hair is. But looking back on pictures I can see the hair receding a little each year through my late teens/early twenties but it seems to really have accelerated when I was 24. That was the year when I started a B5 megadose, a candida diet and a vitamin A megadose. All of this was an attempt to get rid of my acne. My theory is that the B5 and Vit A experiments just accelerated the whole MPB process. Annoyingly my older brother's hairline is absolutely fine and he's 37 and he has really long hair. My dad's hair is pretty good for a 70 year old man, so I guess either I just drew the short straw or I accelerated the baldness pattern through these ridiculous experiments.

I see, I have also had a high uneven hairline with receded temples since birth(I think I posted some pics before; when I was 14 a classmate actually asked me if I was balding lol).
At the time I took B5 I (stupidly) was trying to do a cleanse by heavily dieting. I did this for two weeks or so where I ate hardly anything.
I think when you put your body under such stress it responds by not wasting any more precious resources and energy on irrelevant(to the body at least) things like hair.
This may be a bad example but when you look at pictures of prisoners in the Concentration Camps during WW2 a large majority of them have very receded hairlines and thin hair, even if they are still young. Through malnourishment, physical torture and emotional stress a lot of these men probably lost their hair earlier than they would have otherwise.
If you are still interested in trying Fin or the "Big 3" for that matter, check out these two links:

Thanks for the links again. No I don't think the example you gave is too heavy, the fact is whether you're a human or wild animal if you don't get appropriate nutrition or you're massively stressed you end up withering. Just a fact of nature.
Do you think Propecia/ Fin on its own or combined with Nizoral would work? I read on the links you sent that, although all 3 is the best combination, Fin does seem to be the most effective of the three. Regaine is pretty expensive. In the UK, I can get Fin on prescription for a small amount of money per month but Regaine is more than double what i'd pay for Fin.

Yeah I think just takin Finasteride is fine by itself but if you are NW3 and really want regrowth Minox is your best bet together with Niz and Fin. You don't have to buy the shit in a pharmacy, you can buy generic Minox online quite cheap(if you buy regaine or rogaine you basically pay for the brand name). I think the link contains a site where you can buy some cheap but quality Minox ( http://www.ebay.de/itm/12-MONTHS-KIRKLAND-GENERIC-MINOXIDIL-5-MENS-HAIR-LOSS-REGROWTH-TREATMENT-/200825436571?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item2ec220f99b )
Yes I have but the results were fine, a tiny bit on the hypothyroid side but that's it. I was told to just eat more salt
I think my hair is definitely improving. My hair seems thicker and I have gotten some regrowth. It still isn't as thick as it was before, especially on the temples and on the sides, but it's getting there. I'm still considering Fin and Minox though.

Been taking b5 2g a day for two weeks along with l-carnitine 1g. No hair problems whatsoever, but greatly reduced facial oil production. However, after reading this thread, I am going to stop the treatment as I'm terrified of hair loss. Is there currently an optimally recommended method of quitting? Taper off vs cold turkey?
I would taper off. I read something on reddit where it shocks your system if you cut it out completely. Some guys on here started getting massive hairloss only after as little as 10 days on it, and they all cut it off all at once.
It's your call though, but maybe if you taper off and don't suffer any side effects, could it tell us something about why this is causing hair loss?
Hi all,
Its been a while since I posted anything on this forum. Frankly, Id been waiting to make sure that my improvements werent just a fluke and would actually last. So, Im happy to report, my hair loss and scalp inflammation have completely subsided (and havent come back after about a month). The bad news is I cant be sure that the symptoms will not return or how generalizable the approach I used is.
The following is what I used to alleviate the symptoms of itchy scalp and diffuse hair loss (listed in what I believe is the order of their contribution to the improvement):
1. Psoriatrax tar shampoo. Used every day for the first two weeks, then every other day (alternating with Jason Dandruff Relief shampoo and, occasionally, Nizoral),
2. Colostrum Plus (2 scoops twice a day),
3. Scalp serum with Lavender and Rosemary oil (been using it for a while). Apply about twice a week.
4. Holy basil extract, ashwagandha, valerian root (adaptogens) taken before bed.
It seems that the hair loss and scalp inflammation are manifestations of an immune response to vitamin B5 overdose. In any case, I hope this helps you guys.

2. Symbiotics.
3. Mixture prepared as described in one of my earlier posts.
4. I tried these from several manufacturers. In my experience, Now Foods makes consistently potent, quality products.

Great news and congrats! So you're taking almost 12 grams of Colostrum Plus a day?
This is your scalp serum:
As I have mentioned earlier, I've have been using the formula below to alleviate some of the most annoying symptoms of itchy, irritated scalp.
The listed amounts are by %weight, so you may want to use a small scale to prepare this concoction.
Jojoba Oil: 80.6%
Castor Oil: 11.0%
Lavender Essential Oil: 3.8%
Rosemary Essential Oil: 4.6%
Use a glass container. First, add castor and jojoba oils, mix them together and then add the essential oils.
The essential oils I'm using are manufactured by Now Foods and the carrier oils are sold by Swanson (100% Certified Organic).
Thanks!

Correct, 4 scoops add up to about 12g total.
Yep, that's the serum I've been using.
Lavender and Rosemary oil have shown to be effective in treating alopecia areata, which is an autoimmune disease ( http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/9828867 ).
