I am having sleeping problems on saw palmetto, so I am going to give it a rest and eat only stinging nettle. This way I can narrow down what works or dosent work. I'll give it three months and if it doesnt help I'll try three months of saw palmetto combined with beta-sitosterol. And if that doesent work I'll try going back on b5. Sounds crazy I know, but my hair dident get thin and brittle untill I quit b5. I also experienced some other symtoms after stopping that can be sign of b5 deficiency. Im thinking maybe my body got used to the high doses and now it needs it. Ofcourse I wont mega dose again I'll just take a gram a day. I sent a long letter expaining my problem to my friend, who is a doctor, and told him about my crazy theory. Waiting to get back from him. Although Im expecting an answer like - how the fuck Im a suppose to know...
Blue09 are you giving saw palmetto and beta-sitosterol a go? If so please report your results maybe we can "save" some time. Ofourse I'll be reporting on the nettle.
O yeah I am also going to try methylsulfonylmethane wich I'll also be reporting on. Methylsulfonylmethane is suppose to be good for ALOT of things, hairloss being one of them. According to an american double study it helped the hair in 100% of the patients. Methylsulfonylmethane is safe but you are only suppose to take it for three months or less.

I've tried MSM before its very good for acne whenever I'd get a breakout I'd drink some power only prob was it tasted like absolute shit it basically like drinking salt so I got the pill form but for some reason it wasn't as good, anyway didn't stop my shedding at all tho:(
Trying bita sitosterol atm not going to bother with the saw palmetto tho as I don't want to completely ruin my libido lol.
Your theory about taking the b5 again it very interesting tho I too am starting to believe that our body's could of got used to the b5 and mabe somehow we have become deficient.
You first haha

- Thats a shame, Iv just ordered MSM. MSM powder is better than the pills, because the pills contain other stuff too. How long were you on it (you are suppose to take it everyday)?
- I actually feel like saw palmetto enhances my libido. Iv been on it for three days and havent been able to sleep because iv had a booner all night. From [removed] "Similarly, some people have reported a lower sex drive when taking the herb. However extensive studies show that it should actually improve sexual driveby balancing hormones in your body."
- Haha
I was looking in the mirror just now and I noticed something. Its not much but I got some new hairs on the worst spot of my head. They are small and thin but they are there. I had a few mini-hairs there before, but now there are a little more and some of them look a little longer. There is also one thicker one in the middle. 1/2 in thickness compered to a normal hair. Im feeling positive for the first time in a long time but I dont want to celebrate just yet.
Iv been losing hair for over a year now. Especielly on that spot. So what have I done diffrent in the last few days?
1) I started with nettle leaf powder about 8-12 days ago (I dont think it has anything to do with it, but who knows)
2) I started with nettle root powder about 4-6 days ago. (Iv read about two people reporting on regrowth using nettle, one of them thinking it was because of the nettle the other one not sure)
3) I started massaging in minoxdil 4-6 days ago. Instead of just spraying it on like Iv been doing. (been using it for about 10 months)
4) I started with saw palmetto 4-6 days ago. Been taking one pill a day, even though it says three on the can.
5) I started with b5 AGAIN (1gram a day) 2 days ago. (wasent planing on taking it anymore, but now with the new hairs I dont know what to do)
6) I started with MSM powder today

Although it is highly unlikely that your hair would start growing a week after starting this new regimen, the inhibition of 5a and the subsequent reduction in DHT could become noticable. Does your scalp/hair feel any different? What brand nettle products are you using and at what concentrations?
I had my doctor do another set of blood tests (free/bound T, thyroid, DHT, DHEA) and should have the results in about a week. Will let you guys know.
After the tests I also started taking saw palmetto (160mg twice a day) and nettle root (500mg twice a day). I'm hoping this works.
pjjordan,
How is your progress, man? Are you seeing any improvements?
the inhibition of 5a? Whats 5a?
No noticeable difference in my hair or scalp. Never hade any problems with my scalp though.
ortagubben(root) and biofood(leaf). 100% nettle nothing else in there. Taking two teaspoons a day.
Sorry, 5-alpha reductase (the enzyme responsible for the conversion of testosterone to DHT).
Blue09 did you take MSM every day?
I am already of b5 I dont want to mess with the nettle result..
No mate I didn't take it everyday only when my spots were flaring up so mabe if taken everyday you will get results.
Interesting stuff about the new hairs tho that's Definatly a good sign, are you going to keep up with the the b5?

Nice one pj very interested to see what these tests come up with I think this is the first time someone's been tested for dht on here.
Definatly keep up posted with the results mate this could give us the info we all needed, good stuff.
"Life extension super absorbable Tocotrienols" sounds good. Although Im on so many things that I cant really add anymore. "Food science of Vermont superior hair" seems to be a good mixture of stuff.
No Im off b5. I dident want it to interfere with the nettle, MSM and saw palmetto. Plus my friend the doctor dident think it was a good ide considering that it was b5 that screwed me to begin with. When Iv tried everything and nothing works I might try it as a last resort. But hopefully I want have to.
Itsover what do you think of yaers comment about copper?
I suggest you all to test copper, b5 depletes copper excessively and copper deficiency is the same as iron deficiency in terms of hair loss as it carries iron around the body to cells. You will most probably find your cure here.
Interesting yaer how do you know this?

Thank you. I havent been megadosing b5 for over a year. Do you think that I might still be low on copper?

Same here thinking about I havnt taken any b5 for about 2 years now
Okay, I read through this whole thread and wish to comment for the first time. I seriously wonder if this hair loss problem is not a whole lot simpler than everyone is making it to be. Is it possible that the lack of oil production, which is great for acne, is the same thing that is making all of your hair fall out????? Has anyone tried to do some serious moisturizing???
I mean, maybe all y'all need to do is use a good moisturizing shampoo and put coconut oil on your head at night once a week or so. Please let me know what y'all think.
Warning, the following is only my personal opinion, so you may not want to waste time reading any further: I started mega dosing B5 last week. I have not experienced any progression in my hair falling out as of yet, but I am 44 and my hair is slowly falling out due to genetic MPB anyways. I keep myself in very good shape and I live a very healthy lifestyle, so I can't say that this doesnt bother me. However, if I need to choose between clear skin and a head of hair, clear skin definitely wins. I don't really like the bald look personally, but relentless acne is time consuming, expensive, and can even be emotionally debilitating. I don't even have what most would consider to be severe acne because I constantly stay on it. I do this by washing constantly, eating healthy and low carb (which is a real pain in the butt), and using tea tree oil on breakouts. I'm also finishing a year long course of liver purges. Sorry to rant, especially to y'all. My point is that I would choose to go bald over dealing the constant thorn of acne in my side for the rest of my life. I am planning on taking as little B5 as possible for maintenance once I start get results with my skin. I also am taking biotin and L-Cysteine with the B5 in hopes of preventing hair loss. I also plan on making sure to keep my scalp and hair well moisturized. Any comments or suggestions are welcome. Thanks.
I ordered 6 months of dutasteride from inhousepharmacy.com since it is much cheaper than picking it up from my local CVS pharmacy (6 months from inhouse is cheaper than 1 month from my local pharmacy). I am currently on Dutasteride .5mg once per day, Rogain foam 2x per day, a ketoconazole shampoo 1% and 2%, and a steroid shampoo. My dermatologist told me to alternate between the shampoos depending on how bad my dandruff and irritated scalp is. It definitely has helped.
Using these three treatments, my hair shedding has slowed down and I am definitely am having regrowth. My temples finally have some hair coming back too! I am treating this as male pattern baldness and it is working. These are the best results I have had in the last 3 years since my hair started shedding from B5. Everything else I tried hasn't worked.
I am still convinced B5 messed with our hormones and triggered/kick-started Male Pattern Baldness.
The scalp Biopsy I had a year and half ago came back as Male Pattern Baldness and all my blood tests I have had done came back normal.

pjjordan,
I'm glad you're finally turning the corner and hope you'll continue to improve.
you mention that you're using a steroid shampoo, do you happen to know what the active ingredient is in the prep?
I do think you could still have a copper deficiency as it is very easily depleted and 95% of the specific blood type are naturally deficient in it, in addition copper is found in very small amounts in our daily meals. Vitamin C also depletes your copper, i urge you to do a copper test, i myself suffered from copper deficiency and hair loss as a result, you could skip the test if you want and start to supplement with copper and c if things improve.

How do you know b5 depletes copper I can't find any info on it
