Hi guys.. please help..
I'm posting here because it was ~ 2 months ago that I first came across this thread and decided to back off of showering twice a day. here's the regimen that i came up with (this is after years of scrubs, washes, creams, lotions etc):
Morning: Jojoba oil all over face
Anytime it gets too intensely dry: Same as morning
Evening or night: shower as normal. wash hair, body (no body acne), then briefly rinse face in lukewarm/cool water. Pat dry and apply jojoba oil
This worked wonders. I started noticing less and less overall acne, and really no huge inflamed zit I used to get on benzaclin etc. it also felt less oily and much more healthy. sounds great right?
Here's the problem. Somehow I have unbearably dry skin, and i've concluded that it makes me break out. I can't smile because my skin feels like it's tearing, and ~4-5 days later, i get breakouts around my mouth/chin. I can't stand it. I wanted to try just doing nothing (no water etc) but after two days i couldn't even move my face at all because it was just too tight. so jojoba oil it was..day and night.
Basically, i want to stop this. When I used to use a SA scrub (CC blackhead control) i NEVER had this dry skin issue, so i'm wondering if it's because of the dead skin buildup. I am also reluctant to use an actual moisturizer because I only rinse briefly once a day and dont want buildup on my face of anything not natural.
Please..please please please help. Any advice is greatly appreciated. I'm going to see a dermatologist on monday to beg for help and advice. I feel like if i can just get rid of the dry, tight skin, my breakouts will end for good.
**Also, i want to exfoliate, but i don't want to use any chemicals on my face. Any ideas? FYI, i'm a guy and i shave only with the beard trimmer**
Wapak, I just wanted to say thank you for posting this topic! I had read another forum about the caveman regimen, but I didn't want to try it until I found more validation. I don't have bad acne, but I do get pimples in my t-zone region. Anyway, frustrated with topical acne products, I took your advice and, last week, stopped washing my face, and already, my skin is looking fantastic. My friend even commented how much clearer I looked. I do still have some red pimples, but I think they are a product of my eating peanut butter (ever try those Perfect Food bars? They're wonderful, but they contain peanuts, which make me break out!). When I do get pimples, they pretty much clear themselves and are gone within a couple days. Who would've thought that something as simple as water could have such a huge impact on acne? You are a total life saver--thank you so much!
I think it is the jojoba oil. Have you tried olive oil? Someone posted that it did wonders and she uses it the same way you use jojoba oil.
Do try olive oil first before you see your derm or else he's going to sell you loads of crap.
Hmm.. is olive oil a thicker oil? i feel as though the jojoba just sits on the surface, doesn't absorb, and doesn't moisturize at all.
What type should I use? Should i buy it at an organic food store? I assume it wont cause breakouts...
Thanks so much for your reply!
ok i am finished approximatly. after one month. Took a shower felt very dirty so i decided to do it. It is it interesting in my case that my dead mask was only forming in the middle of my face and not on the side. Also on the side thats were my breakouts occurring and not in the middle where my dead skin mask was one. I washed it rest mushed it a bit all over my face and put emu oil.I did not experience redness, i did not used soap. I think in my case this treatment was good but a bit pointless because dead skin mask was not forming on the edges of my face. So i dont know if anyone experienced. I think i am going to be doing water now from now on cold water probably and infrequent too.
What about no water regimen with moisturizing? Has anyone tried that? Meaning you wouldn't wash your face, just moisturize.
After reading some of these all natural regimen, caveman and so on, I am somewhat tempted. The only thing worrying me are the rashes. I remember when I went snowboarding we were told to not wash our face in the morning since we might damage it with the cold. And I noticed the rashes imediatly. I miss being able to not have to wash myself, and most of all the normal skin. I can't really describe it with other words than it has looked fake, thin and sensetive ever since I ruined my skin with Vichy wash series. I've also tried water only for a few months, but it didn't do much for me.
Atm I am on the DKR (My skin looks better than it has in a long time, and I am pretty much clear about 1 month and a week into the regimen. I plan on staying so until I get closer to flawless skin Since then I'll have more clear skin to work with meaning I can take some chances if that makes any sence. Anyway, thanks.
I also observed little to no dead skin buildup on places where I still have pimples. I guess it should clear up first before it heals. Just my guess though.
Hi, I'm 26. I dont have moderate or heavy acne but usually have around 2 pimples at one time. But they're big. I only started getting acne at 18. I've tried accutane, minocycline, tetracycline, bp regimen (on and off for 5 years) any type of acne product you can buy by every company, Ive tried taking omega 3, 6 zinc, vitamin B, C supplements. I have a stress free life, I dont stress about anything. I work out hard, at least 5 days a week, I was a university varsity soccer player for 4 years. I've cut out and added every type of food or drink to my diet over the years. I can say with absolute confidence, no type of food or food group affects my acne.
The BP regimin worked 100% for 2 consecutive summers where I spent every day outside in the sun. Those are the only times it has worked. It only worked with prolonged exposure to sunlight. Which is impossible to keep up. It also caused me to get acne on my forehead, which I never got before.
Sunlight seems to help me, I backpacked around Australia for 3 months last year, and I still got pimples, but it was better than in North America, and I used no products, only shaved with a razor. But I was in the sun everyday.
I live in Nothern Canada now, where it goes down below -50 in winter and theres limited sun in the winter, which has not helped.
I, like most here, know that taking these products forever is not the way to go. They definitely harm your skin over time, and in my case, make the acne spread to new areas and they're expensive, time consuimg and annoying. But like a drug addiction, they're a hard habit to kick because we feel we need them.
No one in my family has ever gotten pimples before me. My skin is not oiley at all. besides the pimples, its perfectly normal.
This caveman regimen sounds promising, but like everything else, I'm realistic in not expecting it to work, because nothing has worked for me.

Aha! Do you get it, then? Not quite, but you will.
That's your problem, no product has worked for you.
"Nothing has worked for me"
And Nothing will work for you!
NOTHING.
Do you get it?
"Nothing" works. "Everything" doesn't.
So start on Nothing. And see that it works!
It makes sense, doesn't it?
If products are giving you more acne, why use them?
The best of wishes to you
Back to pop in and say hello! It's been a long while since I've reported or answered any questions, so I scrolled through all I've missed since my last post. First I'll give you an update on my own skin, then I'll get to the important parts... teehee.
Ok, myself? I never had acne up until last year. I'm 21 years old now as of March 15th. I've always had a beautiful, olive complexion. I would use Neutrogena Mild Acne wash from when I was about 15 to about 20 years old, worked just fine. I wore makeup throughout high school, not on an ever day basis, sometimes just powder.. nothing major.
I cant contribute the main causes of my acne. Who knows. Everyone's skin is so different, different things and different places people live in, The foods they eat, it all affects our bodies. Yes. But this post right here is what made my acne improve SIGNIFICANTLY.
I work the nightshift still, I'm actually right now currently working to be switched back to days if possible. I make it a habbit to get out to the beach and get some sun on an atleast ONCE A WEEK basis. Now I live right on a lake, and I'm darker toned, so I can spend all day at the beach, no sunscreen, and not even burn. My skin definitely improves with sun exposure. If you don't get any sun, I suggest it. Even if you burn. Fine, use sunscreen and only get a little sun. But don't stay away from the sun, hiding from it?! Humans were meant to be in the sunlight. Period. It helps. I don't care who or what you say.
Water water water water.... Hmm.. I love water. Drink it, bathe in it, don't be afraid of it guys!!!
If you like hot baths, take hot baths!! If you like cooler ones, that's fine too. It's proven that water being slightly warm will open your pores. I prefer to use warmer water for this reason. I'm not scared to get it on my face... And it won't hurt if I get shampoo on my face. I just rinse it off!! Come on guys, don't get extreme.
Now I want to share something with you that kind of amazed me:
Two weeks ago I went to a camping trip in the desert for 2 days straight. No shower. No water in which to bathe in. I brought baby wipes to wipe down with. And this was a community camping trip, so yes, I even BROUGHT MAKEUP GIRLS! I wore liquid concealer, powder, blush, the works... I fell asleep with it on, and in the morning I wiped it off simply to re-apply it so it looked fresh again. I wore makeup the whole damn time in the dirty old desert, and I seriously didn't BREAKOUT! What does that tell you?? Now don't get me wrong, some makeup and some peoples skin just doesn't get along. And I do myself, try to go every week with only wearing makeup maybe 2 times a week or less if I can. But girls, we really need to get out of the habbit of not being able to walk out of the house without makeup on... We all want people to love us for the REAL us. Pounds of makeup is NOT the real you. Makeup's fine... but don't make it a habbit. And don't be scared to use it either though!!
The one thing I learned from all of this. I really do believe the main or ONE of the main causes of Acne is STRESS. You may say you have no stress in your life, but you STRESS about STRESSING OVER ACNE? Sound silly? I know! I was doing it too! I really don't care now. I know my acne can always get worse. I'm glad each day that it isn't. I could be in a wheelchair, or I could weigh alot more then I do, I could be dirt poor and smell like a bum. Guys, things could always get worse. Stressing out about your acne is NOT GOING TO HELP and just going to likely make it worse. Ok?
Those of you doubting Holistic and natural health regimes. Lemme tell you. Some seem extreme, some are. Some work for some people, some don't work. It's all honestly if you BELIEVE it will work. And you can't take a "10 day trial"... or you won't see any damn results. You have to honestly give your body months at a time to adjust to any type of regimen, or you won't see the full results. If you do a "liver flush" or "detox kit"... doing it once to take away the YEARS of abuse you have given your body is not going to do it. You can't go drink half a 12-pack of mountain dew right afterwards either. Things like eating habbits and bathing habbits are LIFESTYLES not FADS. You have to give it an honest shot, and keep trying if it isn't working. Still not working? TRY SOME MORE. Honestly. I came to this sight probably in January, and I'm still working on perfecting what works best for me, my life, and MY BODY.
So my best answers:
- Don't be afraid of water,
Don't Stress about your acne or what's working/not working
Give anything you try some TIME
Cello;;;Roman Bathing? High Five girl. Roughnecks and hardcore campers still use this technique, and it works.. Seriously.. Haha. Not for me, honestly. But I give you kudos!!!
One last point. When you strip your skin of the natural oils, it makes your oil glands go into OVERDRIVE to try and re-hydrate that skin with the same oils you just took off of it, this is your skin trying to regulate itself after you go and mess it up. The acid mantle is a great way to think about that. I don't think any man made harsh chemicals were ever meant to be put on our bodys...
started this regimen about 2.5 weeks ago and I've had a very sharp decrease in the amount of active pimples on my face. I only splash my face with water once per day.
The dead skin is building up rapidly though. I couldn't really see the dead skin until this week, now I see it all over my cheeks.
I'm going to keep at it and see what happens
guys, is it weird if my skin is not oily at ALL [maybe just a tiny bit after school]
and if i dont really get dead skin? x_x
i have a TINY bit around my cheeks, and a tiny bit near the end of my face
its about day 7 :\
I showr once [twice sometimes] a day, and I have long asian male hair
[Edited link out]
so I have to wash my hair/condition my hair in the morning and sometimes at night > <
Water BARELY touches my skin in the shwoer, just maybe my forehead [i face up in wehn im washing my hair]
and after my shower, i usually spray cold water on my face just so it feels a bit refreshed
should i stop doing this?
help please!> <
Since I usually stay at my friend's house for a few days at a time when we have band practice, I have nothing to put on my face or wash it with, so I have noticed this "caveman regime" is definitely effective as far as the appearance of the acne. The redness obviously goes away because there is or should be no irritation. I have been putting Olive and Lavender Oil on my face daily though, and this seems to go good without washing my face. I stopped bathing my face in warm sea salt water as well, so we will see if this works for me.
I'm curious as to what you guys thought of Dan's Blog today. What are your thoughts?
He is misinformed. Here is the deal:
Genes: When it comes to genetics, yes, it's true that if your parents had acne, you probably will as well. Why? Because acne comes from two parts:
1) Internal Causes
2) Excessive use of Topicals
I believe that acne is not just a problem on your skin, but with your whole body. The internal issues are passed down from your parents. I believe that most everyone who has acne has these. It's hormone imbalances, candida, insulin resistance, weakened immune system, etc. But whatever that internal cause may be, it can be regulated through diet and lifestyle.
The other cause is the topicals we use to fight the acne we get from these, which damage and weaken the skin, often making more acne form.
So if that's the case, why do some topicals work? Because they do take care of toxins in your skin on the surface. What happens if you stop the topicals?
It comes back.
That all being said, why did the "do nothing" regimen not work for Dan?
He only tried it for what sounds like a few days as a time! And, it also sounds like he was still using some products. You have to just forget about it, live like you don't have acne. It's normal to have an initial breakout, especially if you've been using something like BP every day.
HUMANS WERE NEVER MEANT TO SLATHER CHEMICALS ON THEIR FACES.
Anyway, that's what I think of it.
Wow, even our method that worked for many is now criticized by Dan. Well, he should just keep using his regimen if that does work for him, this goes for others too.
Living life without any routine is beautiful.
I'm getting less active in this forum these past few days contemplating whether I will keep staying here or not. I'm afraid this might be buried and be forgotten but this site also doesn't help on making me forget about acne. I'm confused. Sigh.
its hard in the beginning, but after day 30 it gets sooo much better
Hi random. How is your skin doing now on this regimen? I'm on Day 30 aswell. I have not let water touch my face for the entire time, and whilst I have noticed a slight improvement, it is still a far way off being clear. I am still getting breakouts (like 4 or 5 a day) on this regimen which is discouraging, my skin is still quite dry and getting flakes. The flakes don't bother me that much, but the fact I am still breaking out is disappointing.
Are you still getting breakouts??? I guess I just wanna know there is some light at the end of the tunnel for me, as I am getting discouraged.
Seems like I am one of those lucky bastards that are destined for bad skin their entire existence.
you didnt touch water for 30 days straight? wow i would assume your face is covered in dead skin mask. on day 21 i scraped it off, and it started getting better as days went by. i think you have to remove the dead skin mask when it gets too thick in order for your skin to heal.
i have no redness at all now and i see my skin healing in new skin. i still have a little dead skin in the most damaged areas but its not as bad. ill scrape it off again later. as far as breakouts, no i have none at all.
i dont credit all my success to this regimen. i know the Lord healed me and led me to this direction. i surrendered everything to God and ever since he started to bless me and heal me inside and out when i learned to fully trust in him. Glory to God!!
