greetings all, i'm new.
i stumbled upon this board by googling "acne milk" and then, browsing, came across this topic. i read through 11 pages and then jumped to the last one. how's it going with Adam and his flakes?
i decided to try (t)his approach, starting now.
i'm cutting on dairy as well - i've been having cca a litre of yoghurt every day for quite some time now, guessed that must have had some impact - 3 days ago i broke out so bad, here i am googling possible reasons & solutions.
i won't be eating any meat or dairy, i'll be sleeping min 7h a day and will be using no face cleaner nor, for that purpose, concealer (oh my*) - for 2 weeks, and see what happens.
and i'll keep you informed, if only for the sake of satisfaction of keeping a diary.
* i'm a girl and this is going to be _really_ tough
Wapak the problem areas for me are my chin and the lower cheeks area just to the left and right of my chin. Can't seem to stop breaking out here. My forehead is pretty much clear.
So from Day 1 to Day 50, water only touched your face once?! That's impressive.
So how is your flaking now? Is your skin as smooth as a babies butt now??
Well, this is my second day on this regimen.
This morning when I woke up, my face looked great. I went out and did some work in my garden (exercise+sun) and when I came inside, my face looked even better. Hm..
Then I had a thing today, a sort of competition, and I felt that, because I was going to be around people other than my family, and that I needed as much confidence as possible, I should wear some makeup.
Big mistake.
Honestly, my skin looked better plain than with foundation & powder. There's still acne everywhere, but it was mostly non-inflamed and not terribly red.
So I applied the EVOO, massaged, and lightly buffed away the oil and my makeup.
I have several zits coming to a head now (whether it was from the makeup or the regimen, I dunno) and hopefully they'll be gone soon. My worst zit is a cyst that formed overnight on my chin. It just came to head head an hour ago, but it's painful and it itches...
My skin is also starting to flake. These are my theories why:
-The makeup. Although it has never made my skin flake before.
-That my skin was not as terribly damaged as some, so the healing process is sped.
-The EVOO is speeding the healing, or doing something else to my my skin flake.
These are the positive effects I am seeing:
[Forgive all the lists. I like making them]
-A lot less inflammation
-Less redness
-Many old, stubborn zits coming to a head, then healing away
-Hyperpigmentation spots fading
-Skin that feels healthy, rather than irritated or raw
-Faint hint of a glowing complexion
I'm very excited
And thanks for the support, Wapak. I'm somewhat of what you could call a fan
@pause/break
No, it is not oily anymore compared to when I was on proactive. Even after I wash my face with water it does not get oily. The only time I see oiliness is before I go to sleep when I stay up late at night and had a very busy day. And yeah, I also experienced that sting and that hurts a lot.
What I do is wet my eyes and gently rub it. Or wet a towel and use that.
@wfss
Welcome to the boards! Though Adam is not here anymore so I'd say he's done with this problem. You are one of the brave girls that I know who's trying this out. I'm hoping for the best for you!
Well, I don't see any flakes or dead skin build up anymore. And yeah, it's as smooth as a baby's butt now but still not as clear. I see, so we have the same problem areas. Good luck to both of us!
aww.. now I have a fan. XD
I'm glad you found that wearing your own natural complexion is better than being behind powders. Many girls are too afraid to believe that. Keep it up!

I'm looking forward going to the beach. I think that would finally clear up my skin with it's natural peeling effect.

Maybe you are allergic to citrus, but citrus does not cause acne.
It can if you are allergic to it. Severe cystic acne, in fact.
Anything can cause acne if you are allergic to it. Even if the reaction is not a pimple, it still causes inflammation which can lead to acne.
Once again I will state: "Maybe you are allergic to citrus, but citrus does not cause acne."
The person ought to find out if he is allergic to citrus. If someone is allergic to something, generally there will be more signs than just the skin.
There are so many ignorant food myths buzzing around here, and one of those that I have seen is that citrus fruits cause acne.
Simply not true.
Then people get acne when they eat citrus fruits and they deem it acne-causing.
Well shoot, it causes acne... so it MUST be that you are allergic to it!
This translates to another item on the list of things an individual deems as something they are "allergic" to, next to things like gluten.
Sure, there ARE people who are really allergic to these things, but the problem arises when they come here and say that was their problem and then everyone else self-diagnoses themselves and thinks that they are now too suffering from allergic reactions to various foods.
@evasionFor how long have you been doing that? Have you tried nothing at all?
I have been doing this for a few months. It was going perfectly until this past week. This week has been horrible for my skin and I don't know why. I'm not sure if I should hope it gets better in another week or go on to do "nothing at all". I tried doing nothing at all but I would always end up washing my face after a week or so, I guess I didn't try hard enough.
It's probably a reaction to citrus. It might be different from the citrus you ate in the past. Try to avoid getting that same citrus but I think you can still have citrus that is from different place. You know, different farmers treat their harvest differently.
I say, just do as what you were doing before since you got a fine result of washing once a day right? Let those breakouts you got this week to heal and avoid that particular citrus. If they don't go away after 5 days then I suggest turmeric root's juice since that cleared up my cystic laden jaw.

It could be caused by hundreds of other things. To tell him he wont ever again experience a break out unless he eats something wrong is to lie.
You will still get breakouts from time to time, especially in the beginning.
Find out from a doctor if you are allergic to something, not from guessing and other people's opinions.
^- Yup, I know that too. Though I believe asking other people's opinion is the first thing to do for it is free! And that's what we have done since the dawn of time so I guess that's normal. The same goes for guessing.
When things gets complicated though, I too suggest seeing a doctor immediately. Like when you feel like your stomach is twisting all around or when your lungs hurts. Definitely see a doctor.
i like that thought troop.
In fact i like it alot. I was on a regimen that worked for awhile but like most regimens i start, it quit working a few days ago...or maybe i'm just paranoid. I dunno. But here is an experiment for ya boys. I'm going to stop my current regimen for awhile and see how your water/caveman or in this case cave woman regimen goes. So sorry wexler regimen, im putting you on pause to try this one. If i dont see an improvment in hmmmm lets say 10 days from the water/caveman reg I'm going back to my wexler acne regimen.
i washed my face for the last time tonight and, well, who knows when i will wash it next? I am taking on this challenge. And yea dont forget im a girl.
Note* I have to wear eyemakeup. Mascara eyeliner and undereye concealer. I will wash this off with a washcloth everynight before bed being careful not to get my face wet, just my eyes. As the girl above suggested.
As for the concealer, foundation, blush ect ect I wont wear this at all for the ten days. I have a law school ball I have to attend on day 10 so i will have to wear makeup on my face. If, by then, the cavewoman(lol) regimen works i will wash it off with a gentle cleanser and continue the cavewoman regimen.
If no tho, I will start the wexler acne system up again on day 11.
Thanks for your time peoples.
You'll need more than 10 days, plus if you have hard water in your area it's gonna do worse on your skin,I mean look at your tub and shower after hard water gets onto it after acouple of days...you'll be flaky, red, and burning after 2-3 days...stick to your regimen,at least the moisturizers and cleanser you use will help rid your skin of oil and dead skin cells which is what is needed for good skin throughout your life....cleaning your skin is fine as long as you're not over doing it....

I thought about that but I was worried that it will get worse only in the eye area, meanwhile trying to heal my face skin trying to avoid from water and whatnot.
Hopefully, though, I want to limit my face washing to at minimum of once a day, and then once every twice a day and so on. At least that's my goal at the moment.
^ Is your face oily at all? If it is oily, how fast does your face gets oily after you wash your face?
I have tried this for a week in the past before but the oilyness around my eyes made my eyes sting so bad. I don't think I want to try this again. However, I've been using only water for about a week now washing twice a day but nothing really changed about the oil production on my face.
I have been having this problem also. I go to itch my eyes and i get oil in them and they sting horribly.
Day 3.
I feel like my life is changing. Like I've had some sort of major epiphany. I love it!
The olive oil is the answer, at least for me. My skin has many fewer active pimple, and those which still exist are barely pink and not very inflamed. The crap in my pores is sticking out too now [ewwww] and I have a dead skin mask. It's kind of gross, because my skin looks flaky, but everything else looks better. Like my skin, despite the dead skin, looks significantly healthier.
I can run my fingers over it and NOT feel like I'm reading braille, which is HUGE for me. xD
I'm going out in public this evening, and I will, for the first time in a very, very long time, not wear foundation&powder. I cannot go without mascara or eyeliner, but that's not really going to affect the rest of my skin. I think it will be best if I let it breathe.
Besides, the makeup only brings out the flakiness of my skin and the stuff sticking out of my pores. Without it, it's much less noticeable.
All in all, I am seeing great results and the olive oil seems to be significantly speeding up the healing process for me.
If there are any other girls out there who want to try this but are afraid, consider using olive oil the way I am, and making the process go by faster and the flakiness less noticeable.
And, of course, have CONFIDENCE. What would you rather have; unhealthy skin under makeup, or beautiful skin without all that stuff?
Plus, you save a lot of money.
-Oh, by the way, my skin isn't shiny with oil or anything. The olive oil keeps everything nice and moisturized so my skin only produces a little extra. And no, this does not keep the acid mantle from forming.
I'm sorry the olive oil didn't work for you, rand0m. It seems to be working great for me.
This is what I do-
Morning & Night: Splash face with cold water, and dab dry. Then, I gently massage the olive oil into my skin and let it sit for a minute, then I use a very soft, dry washcloth to VERY GENTLY buff away the oil. Ta Dah!
You would imagine that the washcloth would defeat the purpose, by taking off the dead skin mask, but it literally leaves every flake in tact xD The wash cloth isn't old or grainy, it's rather new and very, very soft. I think that makes a difference.
It might not work for everyone, but it seems to be the ticket for me.

I haven't had any citrus in months though, at least I don't think. I feel like the only citrus I ingest is orange juice but maybe I'm getting it somewhere I don't realize.
Don't worry man, as long as this no wash/water only method is doing great I won't add anything else yet.
@Cello
I see, that seems perfect for those who have faith in Olive Oil. And it's working great for you! Keep us posted.
Yeah, since there's a lot of things out there. I'm just suggesting based on your previous post where you mentioned citrus. Well, what you can do now is observe if that will last for so long that its like your back to where you are before. If that's the case then you gotta do something about it.
On Day 6 of this caveman regimen. And I must say my face is looking terrible, definietly worse than when I started. Whiteheads and breakouts are popping up everywhere and some dead skin starting to appear. I was really hoping I would not have to deal with a breakout, as I was previously on the water only regimen, so I was expecting the transition to "no washing" would be relatively smooth. Not so.
However face is not oily at all which is discouraging, as people who have posted having success with this have said they initially get oily skin. I'm not getting that at all.
Nevertheless I'll stick with it, but initial results are not good.
I think I have an allergy/intolerance to citric acid. I have been having a lot of pasta lately with marinara sauce (lots of citric acid). I am now washing my face every couple of days and it's a great medium because I can't just go for extended periods without washing doing what I do. Now, just to try to eliminate citric acid. The reason I think it is the citric acid is because when I drank orange juice a lot I got a lot of cysts. Then, when I stopped drinking it the cysts lessened. Now they are back because I am getting citric acid from another source. That's my thinking at least.
