I am sorry if this has been asked before but i have a couple of questions about this.

I have kind of tried to do a regimen like this where i just leave my skin alone and let it heal naturally. In the evening i do nothing to my face, but in the mornings there is a problem when i wash my hair in the shower and so i just cant avoid getting my face wet. After the shower when i dry off, i moisturise. I don't know if using moisturiser is a bad thing and but i seem to have dry skin and i have a crappy amount of dead skin to deal with all the time.

So i ask what is the best way to shower and wash your hair while keeping this regimen going.

And how do you get rid of all the lousy flakes without using any kind of topical treatments?

hey im the same way, my mom had acne in her teens and still gets it now and then and also my dad had acne. i had severe acne on my chest back and face. i did all the topicals and they just didnt work for me, so far the best thing ive been able to come across is a decently healthy diet and this "caveman" regimen has been going really good so far. you should give it a try and take some fish oil supplements or something that will help balance out your hormones. but thats just my two cents. acne is defintaly genetic for me. good luck

So i ask what is the best way to shower and wash your hair while keeping this regimen going.

And how do you get rid of all the lousy flakes without using any kind of topical treatments?

We've thought exfoliation maybe, maybe once a week or more so if needing with the flakyness if you can't stand it. If you can put up with the skin peeling/flakes, then it's better off to let it come off naturally and let your skin heal itself. This dead skin is part of the process.

I have really long hair. When you wash your hair and shower, just dont worry about water and stuff getting on your face. I'm not all for the radical "No water" at all in this regimen... I use water on my face daily.. So it's really up to you and what works best for your hygeine regimens...

Okay, I got up to page 6 and stopped reading. I've been up all night and am just too tired.

This regimen makes a lot of sense to me. It seems like a good idea. But I'm worried about trying it for various reasons:

1) I have done some things similar to it before. I stopped washing my face (mostly out of laziness) and it never worked out well for me. But, I was going about it differently than this regimen does.

2) I am using a system right now that seems to be really helpful for me and doesn't seem to damage my skin. (Collective Wellbeing's acne kit.) Sometimes, when my face starts getting a lot clearer, I go a day or two without washing my face. I think I would be clearer now if I didn't do that. Every time I do, my skin seems to get worse and I start washing again. Lately I've only been washing once a day, just kind of whenever it feels like it needs it.

3) I think my acne's hormonal. It's also genetic. My mother has it bad on her face (very bad in her teens.) It's not so bad now, but still there. My dad has worse body acne, but it's on his face too. And guess what? I get both body acne and facial acne! Yay... Anyway, I'm in my teens now. (started getting acne when I was about 10) It seems like this works for adult acne, but will it work at all for me?

My skin is on it's way to being clear and it feels a lot healthier with the products I'm using. I'm really afraid to try this because I don't want to mess up my face again by getting tons of breakouts (which I usually get if I don't wash my face) but this makes so much sense. I've seen my face heal itself before and I think this is so logical, natural and right. But I'm so afraid of it not working for me and just messing my face up more. Should I try it anyway? My collective wellbeing stuff has pretty much run out, so if I try it I should do it now before I go buy some more.

For someone like you, I honestly wouldn't recommend this. If you are using a product and it seems to be working, stick to it. We've noted that any kind of regimen can sometimes take more then 3 months to see full results. So if I were you, keep doing what your doing.. see if it work. If it doesn't in a month or so, then try this.. what have you got to loose at the moment? Especially if you're see positive results. Good luck!

I would still have to definitely agree, you will see better results with this, or ANYTHING you try for your acne if you try to eat healthy, and stay healthy. Excercise, get outdoors, stay active. Lots of water, fresh fruits, veggies. The RIGHT KIND OF VITAMINS make all the world of difference.

I had my third tanning session yesterday and I was in for a full 15 mins.

I started getting tanner and being able to notice it actually. It's still healing the acne on my back for sure and I haven't had any new zits on my face to report! As mentioned I even used makeup once this past weekend. I've washed my face twice since last saturday, but I'm a girl so I have to when I apply makeup. Otherwise on the inbetween days, I splash my face with water only every morning, and shower as usual at night! I'm loving this!

i have got to stop picking the dead skin off my old spots. its soooo hard tho i just get the tweezers and pick off the dead skin and it just leaves and old spot more noticable because its fresher red skin. its soo hard not to touch your skin.

Lately i have been getting really really small spots just under my skin not sure if there gona come out or jst stay there and go. u cnt notice them unless i stretch my skin tho, weird havent go them at all before.

havent got any more big pimples coming up at all, only really small pritty much unnoticable ones. which is very good, im washing once a day at night after work on weekends im not washing at all. (well trying to)

So after i had a shower this morning i felt that my face was feeling a little bit dry, however i didn't know whether to put moisturiser on. I didn't touch my face for 2 days so i thought putting it on would ruin what progress i might have made. So i decided to put it only on one half of my face and leave the other half. Now i will let each half of my face compete to see which option was right. :o

Well, I decided to try it. I had already started before kate_the_valkyrie advised me not to. So, I figured I might as well keep up with it. I do have the perfect oportunity to do it now cuz my product has run out and I won't be going to school/work for at least the next 5 or 6 months. (i'm doing school at home.) So I'm trying it. Only 3 days in and it seems to be doing well. No new breakouts as far as I can tell. Though it's hard to tell with my face :( This could also be due to the fact that I've actually got a full night's sleep the past couple nights... anyway, we'll see how this works. I'm going to try to stick with it for at least 3 or 4 months. If it doesn't work after that long I'll go back to collective wellbeing.

i have been on antibiotics(tetracycline, doxycycline, and another i forget the name of but i could only take it for a period of one month because it was so strong) for acne for around three years(since i was a freshman in HS). My brother and uncle had severe acne but thankfully i wasnt as severe, alot over the face but not too much on the chest and back.

I recently ran out of doxycycline around two weeks ago. i fought the pimples with exercise(which sort of helped) i would get 1-2 new pimples everyday but they werent severe just extremely annoying! after a week of no antibiotics as i was looking up how to get more energy for even more exercise, i found the paleo diet. I then found out it could also help with acne but i was very skeptical as i had heard diet had nothing to do with your acne.

THIS IS SO WRONG, at least in my case :) after only a week on the diet my old pimples have dried and died, and although a few remain they are extremely small and slowly saying goodbye. My face feels smoother everyday. I actually touched my face like mad yesterday and last night i worried whether or not id have new pimples. I just woke and im still smooth and relatively acne free.

THIS DIET WORKS. everyone should at least TRY it you know. ill post more as results get better

Adam, how long before you reintroduced filtered water? And do you think it's necessary to wait to introduce it or do you think the acid mantle can heal itself if you use just filtered water? thanks!

hey guys, so ive been on water only for over a yr (tap). But today i decided to use filtered water and i feel like it made everything on my face more visible!!!! do you guys think it could be possible for filtered water to be worse than tap? i know that sounds weird but if i get more opinions it would be greatly appreciated! thanks!! i haven't updated on here in a while- i've done this several times but no longer than 4 days in a row...and it was great (just really oily and "ugly" looking but NO breakouts)...think ill go for it again. but any help on the filtered water thing would help!!

Ive never said not to try this.. I'm trying it right now myself.. experimenting with what does and doesnt work for me...

I've said, EVERYONE is different.. and you need to do what you think would work for YOU.

Anyways...

Reporting the end of my second week... I'll admit, I havent stuck to this regimen. I've been working more towards the tanning sessions to see how this affects my acne and right now i'm experimenting more with internal/dietary courses of action because as many other girls have said, when it comes to females and their need for makeup occasionally, this regimen really just doesnt for for us.....

You know I got to thinking the other day...does everybody really see 20/20 (like for those who don't wear contacts or glasses). Cuz I wear contact lenses and w/o them in my eyes my face looks clearer from a closer distance than say when my contacts are in. So I got to wondering how many people actually don't see our imperfections, let alone notice them. So when it feels like everyone might be staring at you b/c of acne remember that not everyone is capable of doing so. Here's a link that helps my theory.....

[Edited link out]

By the way, my face looks the best it's been in 6 years (since before I smothered it with washes, creams, lotions, etc.) I'm so glad I found this site and this thread, or I could've went many more years depriving myself of my own natural skin complexion by trying to defeat acne through topicals.

Somewhere around week 3/day 21...

Things have gotten a little better in some places but worse in others. I'm still getting whiteheads daily around my chin but the number has decreased to about 4 or 5 a day. The ones around my lips are slowly healing. The initial 15-20 pimples that appeared around my cheeks and nose area have subsided and been replaced by large red blotches around my cheek area. My forehead went from completely clear to about 20 small red pimples. I'm starting to experience moderate flakiness. My face looks very bad. I can't tell if it's getting better or worse. Not really sure what to do differently at this point... I'm going to give it more time and stay hopeful.

update.

I have to say that this caveman regimen is working well. I still have a few little pimples or whatever, but my red marks look better already and it's only been about 4 days!! Red marks that have looked bad for many months are fading in just a few days.

maybe it is the oil build up on my face but who cares!?!?!

OIL FTW!!!!

My mother told me that her mother's dermatologist told her (I kid you not this would be in the 1940's or 50's) to never use soap or products on her face, to never scrub it with a towel, and to only use warm water and splash it on her face with her hands and pat it dry after wards. She suffered adult acne (as I do) to a moderate extent and when I actually follow this regime it works pretty well and feels good at night. I can't say it's 100 percent but then nothing is perfect.

I also added a little ritual of my own making where I fill the basin up with warm water and dunk my face in and stay there for around 30 seconds. It makes my pores feel really nice and clean. That might all be psychological though and as I said, I made it up.

Anyway, this avoiding products idea dates back a few decades and then some. If you think about it, it makes sense. Before running water, people used to have a basin of water in their rooms and a jug and every morning they'd simply splash some water on their faces, pat it dry, and get on with the day. No complicated morning routines filled with creams or scrubs. Just a few splashes and that was that.

I've been following this method for awhile now, and the only time i let water touch my face is in the shower, and when i shave. I've recently switched form hot showers to lukewarm/cooler and noticed and improvement in the dryness, but i usually shave with hot water as its more soothing that regular temp. water. How are you guys shaving on this regimen? Should i switched to a cooler temperature when shaving? thanks.

Things seem to be going well. By day 4, there were absolutely no inflamed pimples. Now, on day 7, I don't think there are any new breakouts. It seems like ay blackheads/breakouts I had are healing themselves. If I'm going out and don't want to have dry spots on my face, I put my finger under running water, shake it off a bit, then press the dry area. Then I pat it dry with my hand very gently. This usually lets it seem like I don't have any flakes. If I don't have to go out, I don't do this and just let my skin be.

Seriously, I've learned from this website as well as specifically this posting, is that oil is good for your face, contrary to what everyone has been saying for the last 20+ years. Your body's natural oils are not the CAUSE of acne.. but the clogged pore itself rather, but oil moisturizes your face... These products over-dry your face, strip it of these oils, and your skin trys to compensate somehow... making it worse most of the time...

My mother told me that her mother's dermatologist told her (I kid you not this would be in the 1940's or 50's) to never use soap or products on her face, to never scrub it with a towel, and to only use warm water and splash it on her face with her hands and pat it dry after wards. That's exactly the thinking I've had run through my mind after reading and experimenting with this. I started this about 2+ weeks ago, and I'm not going to lie-I've cheated a few times and used an exfoliator or face wash.. but the main thing I remember is not to overwash or over treat my face. I think that all the sebum(oil) in my clogged pores(causing to be the "zit") needs to be washed out.. but in truth I need to let my skin heal naturally! It has also helped me with dealing with my picking/squeezing. I am trying to leave my face ALONE more and more.. No scrubbing, touching, treating, chemicals, etc!

I've been following this method for awhile now, and the only time i let water touch my face is in the shower, and when i shave. I've been hearing from all the guys, that electric shavers work best when dealing with acne, period... I'm a girl so I can't give much advice on this, but that seems to make sense when I think about it... Maybe you'll have to decide with trial and error what works best with your face and skin type? I know when I shave my legs and under my arms I use water only after washing the area with a gentle cleanser...

what i am seeing is that around the 3 - 7 day mark ppl are seeing good results (they think). Then they keep it up for another week or 2 weeks and around week 3 things start to get a little worse. thats what is happening to me Im getting an outbreak now like i normaly would using face washs. My mum talked me into using a face mask today other than that i have just been using water on my face day and night and 2.5% bp on a few big spots which have popped up.

Do you guys think thats alrite? or should i just go back to doing nothing? its so hard to do nothing when u can see/feel a pimple coming up you just wont to put some spot stuff on it.

I suggest stop using water on your face. I think it is still over washing and is not good for a damaged skin.

For me this regimen has been a declining spiral. I'm on about day 24 or so and every day has just been worse or the same. This is definitely not a quick fix kind of thing. Nothing is as easy as it should be. If it works at all it takes time.
