Do you think taking psyllium husks will help with colon? Im thinking that I get clogged pores/ acne on certain parts of the face is due to the organs not detoxing well. Do you believe that? Is that a supplement which has flaxseed, evening primrose and borage oil 3 in 1?

Thanks for the post, it was a really good read with lots of good info.

I agree with most of what you say, however you seem to look down on the consumption of coconut oil and I do disagree with that. Yes its saturated fat but I believe a reasonable amount is healthy for us. I cannot tell you the differences Ive felt in my body since injesting coconut oil, and since switching to it from heating other kinds of oils to cook veggies in etc. Ive only recently learned about the oxidation of oils, and I think thats extremely unhealthy for us. If you NEVER cook anything in oil then I guess it doesnt matter, but coconut oil is really good for that. I also take a spoonful or two of it a day, along with my omega three, six and nine blend. I think I may have had some kinda fat deficiency before I started with the coconut oil.

Now Im not recommending eating tons of other types of fats like meats and cheeses, etc, and taking a ton of coconut oil on top of it. I dont eat meat, I eat very very little dairy so the coconut oil and the efas are most of my daily fat intake. I just wanted to point out that the human body needs some fat and coconut oil has done good things for my life.

:)

I went on a stint where I took it. The best thing to do is take the other fish oil in pills. The only reason I say this is because I think you can get Vitamin A poisoning if you take to much vitamin a from fish. It can be damaging.

There is no reason to take if it you take other fish oils.

Now don't quote me on this because it has been over a year since I read up on this but that is what I remember learning. I recommend that you read up on it more.

Bob

Are there any foods, besides dairy, that you avoid all together?

(sugar, wheat, soy, gluten, etc)

Or do you just eat those things in moderation?

I'm just curious to know what your diet consists of, and what you normally eat on a daily basis.

Thanks for your help!

I used to take coconut oil daily. I really respect Dr Andrew Weil's opinions on diet and health and I agree with him that it is high in saturated fats which typically is tougher on the body.

I don't see any problem in taking it daily, I just wouldn't recommend it being a large amount of the fats intake (over 10%). The other fats I talk about like olive oil and omega 3 can be taken as much as possible, hence I list them as good fats.

I used to get warm water, put it in a shot glass and put the coconut oil in the glass, watch it melt quickly and then take the shot. I did that daily. So I've been down that road.

As I say to everyone, do what works. If that works for you, I have no problem with it, nor would I argue you against taking it.

Hello I am about to start the "supplement" part of your well let's just call it a Total Body Program. ( ON ACCIDENT ) lol!

I was searching for additonal supplements when shopping for a multi-vitamin. ( out of my own ways to clear my skin )

After figuring out what to get, I realized I choose the exact same natural oils in your program in combination with an Iodine-free multi-vitamin!

Multi-vitamin:

http://www.gnc.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2133874

Primrose oil:

http://www.gnc.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2133878

Flaxseed oil:

http://www.gnc.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2133258

Borage oil:

http://www.gnc.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2133225

So to my knowledge this "program" I will be taking will not only help clear my acne, give me more energy, make me a healthy person, but also help with pms and help balance my hormones that can in-turn lead to even more breakouts! Sounds like a no-brainer to me!

Quick question:

I've heard alot of people saying cold-pressed oils will contain higher amounts of GLA.

Is the NOW brand of primrose and borage oil "cold-pressed"?

I know for sure that my GNC brand primrose oil is cold-pressed.

Im not sure that they contain higher amounts of anything, but they need to be cold pressed because heat from large processing systems can cause the oils to oxidize and then they arent very good for you at all.

hi everyone,

just came back to report on my progress. so far it has been 3 weeks of taking the flaxseed, borage, fish oil combo and the results have been amazing. i did 2 weeks of 2tbsp flax, and 4 pills borage, 1 pill of fish oil a day...and then got the flu (unrelated to these supplements) so i started waning on my intake. but by the end of the 2 weeks i already saw a huge difference. the redness had gone down significantly and my clogged pores were disappearing, no more new pimples cropping up.

week 3 - i took 1 tbsp flax oil a day, maybe every other day and 2 borage oils, 1 fish oil also every other day because i felt so terrible from being sick that i could not eat...except...i was still witnessing better skin.

i would not recommend stopping, or taking this supplementation every other day as i did, however, because i started popping out teeny pustules all over my face this week...BUT i was on two very strong antibiotics last week for having been sick and i ALWAYS break out after i finish the course and so i attribute the small "breakout" to this. (NOTE: my breakouts after taking antibiotics are usually moderate, cystic but this time it seems under control from prior supplementation.)

on top of that, i had my period recently and it was not nearly as crampy...attribute this to the BORAGE oil's anti-inflammatory prostaglandins.

anyway, i did some research and realized that i had an oil deficiency. with 4 rounds of accutane that destroyed natural oil producing glands, turning them into producing "dry" oil/sebum that clogged my skin instead of the more "free-flowing" oil that is supposed to moisturize. i never use much oil in cooking and eat very little "fatty" foods...this led to chronic dry skin and a cycle of breakouts. what i believe corrected this for me was the FLAXSEED oil as it contains omega-3s which are important in diluting the hard sebum (in addition to its intrinsic anti-inflammatory properties).

the FISH oil, is there for a balance of omega-6 and -9's for the borage and flax.

all 3 are necessary. bob, i know you said to stay on this for a few months to see changes but i really believe that i have already seen some - quite encouraged at this point but i will march on! but...that flax oil taste is getting up there on my list of vomit inducing substances...

hopefully these results will last longer, *fingers crossed* and it is not just a fluke that there seems to be progress.

will keep updating...good luck everyone!

p.s. cleansing routine is erratic:

NIGHT: wash with cetaphil and facial brush, toner, and jojoba oil; OR once/twice a week use AHA/BHA Peter Thomas Roth scrub and then massage jojoba oil; OR sometimes just a deep cleanse "wash" with jojoba oil, then wipe off, then fresh oil to moisturize --> this variation because i believe that you have to do what your face feels that day, if it's humid - less moisturizer, dry - use more; also, as a woman i also have to mind my hormones and cyclical changes in oil production

DAY: rinse with water in shower/cetaphil if a little oily, toner, vichy oligo 25 (my holy grail of moisturizers) and sometimes proActiv sunblock (this MIGHT contribute to my breakouts - still testing this one)

I really hope they sticky this thread.

Your post really shows how so many people have wrong thought about the way they are going about trying to cure their acne. We should all be trying to fix our overall systems and optimize them, not be looking to add one 'miracle' thing or another that will magically cure acne. I already sorta thought this way, and your post really cemented in me the correct way to look at this problem. Whoever said that your lifestyle was unhealthy or extreme is completely retarded..this isnt really that much of a regimen or a skin care program its just a way of life and I think thats the healthiest approach. You should consider writing a book about all this stuff Bob. Id buy it. :D

Also, I was wondering if you could explain more in depth your opinions of parasites and parasite flushes. I became terrified over this subject when I was bit younger, because of people over-exaggerating the fact of human worm infestations. I was sick night and day over this and did a month long cleanse, and no worms or anything came out, thank god. -I have no symtoms of parasites anyways-. I was wondering if you think I should bother doing another parasite cleanse before I do a liver flush later this spring? I have no symtoms, not at high risk, etc. BUt I still get scared of the possibility.

Not to scare you a lot, but most people have some type of parasites in them. Parasite cleanses I don't think are necessary but I do believe are beneficial.

If you have the $ for it and it is no extra strain on you, then I would do it. If it is taking significant $$ out of your budget, then skip it. You don't HAVE to do one.

There are a bunch of things you can do to improve your health, so it becomes your choice now. It is NOT necessary before a liver flush and I am under the impression that your liver flush will be just as successful without it.

A note on increasing health to the max:

The most extreme and healthiest diet I have ever done was the pH balance diet. Creaeted by Dr. Robert Young. It is ultra extreme but I can vouch for them in saying, your body will have never been healthier.

I sleep 7-9 hours a night depending on different factors. When I was on that diet for a month I would sleep for 5 hours and then wake up wide eyed. I would go to sleep at 12am and be up at 5am, wide awake. I tried to lay in bed longer, but I had so much energy that I couldn't fall back asleep.

I know what optimum health feels like and it takes very extreme approach. As for maintaining excellent health and clear skin, what we've discussed will do just fine.

Thanks a lot, Bob, this has been a fascinating read!

I am new to this forum, and although I've already been doing a lot of what you are in favor of (avoiding excess chemicals inside and out, eating the healthiest diet possible) .... you've confirmed my suspcions that it's time to up the exercise in order to achieve better sin. It will be hard for me to fit it in, but worth it, I'm sure.

Tomorrow I'm going to go out and pick up the borage, and primrose. I don't feel the need to get flax seed oil right away though - I prefer using ground up flax seeds themselves, which have the added benefit of more protein and lignans :) I'm also already really good about the nuts. I couldn't live without almonds.

Thanks!
