Is there any reason at all green smoothies would give me stomach issues and cause constipation etc? Its just ever since fruit started to give me problems a few months ago i keep trying green smoothies but i keep ending up with disapointment. I find it quite weird they would give me problems though and i can only think its due to some other food or something, the smoothies should be fine and easy on the stomach shouldnt they?

They give me gas... if I drink this before I sleep, my room will fill up with gas...

I made my aunt throw up.. lol Because I opened the door and some of them went out.

So I try to drink this in the morning so that I won't fart while sleeping. >_>

I hope that's normal... or I need to get used to it? 😀

It's frustrating to be honest.. I hope not to let one out while in class... 🙂 that would be indeed embarrassing

Hey Paul! If anything, the smoothies should help with digestion. Many people find they really help with making them more regular. Maybe you could try a more veggie based smoothie?

Eddie,

Do you take acidophilus (probiotics)?

Excessive gas is an indicator that your body is struggling to digest something. Foods that make it to the intestines without being digested properly will cause this. It's also why foods like beans and broccoli can cause gas - because they contain high amounts of fiber that cannot be digested and must be broken down by the bacteria in the large intestine. This can also occur because you're eating food in odd combination, making it more difficult for your body to digest. Are you eating proteins or starches with your green smoothies? Or perhaps eating them close to the time you consume your smoothies? You may want to try consuming the smoothies on an empty stomach.

I am concern about this peach...

ORGANICALLY GROWN AND PROCESSED PEACHES, ASCORBIC ACID AND CITRIC ACID

They really had to add ASCORBIC ACID AND CITRIC ACID??

argh.. :| is it bad?

Yeah, I eat whole grain bread, then I make green smoothie with fruits.

That may be your problem. I think it also depends on what kind of fruit you're consuming.

http://www.thewolfeclinic.com/foodcombining.html#

There's a chart that you may find helpful.

And about the peaches, I use a frozen bag of peaches that contains ascorbic acid. I wish they hadn't used it, but I haven't had any problems from it, either. I'm too poor to constantly buy fresh peaches or fruit, so I deal with it. That, and I don't use peaches terribly often. Wal-mart sells frozen fruit with absolutely no additives. I have strawberries, blueberries and berry medleys that contain nothing but pure frozen fruit.

I want to say that green smoothie made my skin so smooth. Initially, I thought I would break-out.

But I haven't broke out yet. Actually, I only broke out with 1-2 tiny bumps.. I still see more.. but it will go away fast.

I saw a lot of improvement.

I am nearly 99% clear. 😛

Oh, wow! Congratulations! Do you have a favorite recipe that you use? : )

Sure,

3 handful of spinach

4-6 pieces of frozen mangoes ( I usually buy it organic )

Some frozen mixed berries ( Organic, too )

and a half of bananas.

Taste very good. 🙂 sometime I mix up leafy green-

Same ingredient but Instead - 2 handful of spinach and one handful of kale.

Or replace kale with collard.. 🙂 I do this mix thing sometimes.

Eddie, I don't like preservatives too and so when I purchase food I try to find them without salt or additives. However, most coconut milk has preservative 220 (also found in wine, it's just sulfur dioxide) and alot of canned foods also have citric acid as a preservative.

Ascorbic acid is vitamin C and citric acid is just citric acid. So I wouldn't be too worried.

I'm drinking roobos tea at the moment, but I'm defrosting my frozen spinach, berries and coconut milk to drink in an hour! =D

OK thanks! Guess I will be using some frozen peaches into my shake. 😛

I can't find any frozen mangoes in stock.. so I bought fresh organic mangoes and cut them.

And then I froze them :P. It doesn't taste as good as the one i usually buy ;/

Tonight I made a smoothie consisting of:

1 cup organic mixed bitter greens

1 cup frozen strawberries

1 organic banana

1 cup frozen rasberries

1/2 cup organic applie juice

1200 mg of powdered Vitamin C (my "booster")

SOOOOOOO YUMMY!!!! Does anyone else feel like they're... high on something... after they drink a green smoothie? I just feel like I ate a powerhouse of goodness.. What a great way to get your fruits and veggies in, not to mention, it gives your digestive system a much needed break when everything is already "chewed up"!

I love green smoothies! I guess the rule of thumb is, as long as you have more fruits than vegetables, ex: 3 fruits, 2 vegetables, .. the smoothie will always taste more fruity.

Can't wait for an AM yoga + smoothie session tomorrow!

I'm pretty sure they add ascorbic and citric acid to retain the color of the fruit... But... I really wouldn't care if the color wasn't "vibrant" when I ate it... It's not too bad though, ascorbic acid is synonymous for "vitamin C", and citric acid is in many fruits; both are natural fruit derived acids. On a scale of 1-10, 10 being worst, I'd rate those a 1!

So yeah, don't be too worried about preservatives. Just be glad we're not drinking bottled juice or junk food! They have 100's of preservatives and the bad kinds too!

Vitamin C (powder ascorbic acid) is gross when I mixed mine with water so thanks for bringing them up in smoothies! I'm going to add some in my smoothie in addition to some chia seeds and my green blend.

The bad thing I've found recently is I've begun to overdose on fruit (since they're so 'good' for us) and it's usually logans and bananas. I'm going to stop. I'm going to have to up my veg intake! I had pumpkin soup tonight. Delicious and nutritious but it's high GI.

I made one whole fresh kale.. :P It tasted OK... :) My smoothie ended up tasting more like kale.

I didn't taste the fruit at all.. :) only a bit.. which made me drink it all. :P

I feel great.

:) Btw: I broke out with 2 acne.. but not big.. one on my cheek, and one on my forehead which is tiny.

:) That's OK! My skin looks great. I usually breakout with 5-6 small bumps a month.. so that's fine because I haven't broken out in a while.

Eazy D,

LOL!!! haha, that's awesome!! So glad you're enjoying smoothies and that they seem to be working already!!!

Polska Laska,

Yummy sounding recipe! Yes, as long as you have more fruit, it'll taste fruity. Although often, I cram in a lot more greens than fruit, and I still end up with a fruity tasting smoothie. LOL That sounds so funny.

EddieE,

Sounds like you're doing well with smoothies still! Yea!! :)

I also add more greens than fruits! 🙂 I would say a ratio of 70% greens , 30% fruits.

I add small amount of high sugar fruits, and a lot of berries.

Thanks! I am doing well. I am eager to try new fruits.. Peaches will be next instead of mangoes.

I hate the fact that they added these acids.. as long as it's natural, I don't mind. ALso, magic bullet is good 🙂 it does the job for me. I wanted the vita-mix. ^^

So cool that you add more greens too Eddie!! Peaches are really good in smoothies!!

So odd about the ascorbic acid being added - I think that's the synthetic form of vitamin C, but I'm not entirely sure. I don't think it's harmful, but if I were going to be eating a lot of it, I'd want to know more about it. You said it's added to the frozen peaches?

Are you going to try eating your smoothies alone? Such a smart idea of gMARIAs. I definitely think probiotics are a good idea as well if you're not currently taken them. Reuteri by Nature's Way seems to get good results for people - I think it's supposed to "colonize" when you take it, thereby, making even more good bacteria. Pretty cool!

I just started a green smoothie today--and I'm really excited about it. I was wondering, though, if you are in a rush or for some reason can't make the smoothie one day, if you go for any of the store-bought kinds (like trader joe's/odwalla/naked juice)? I hope there wasn't already a post on this, but I couldn't carefully read all 111 pages! Thanks so much!!

No problem Kristine! Store bought is okay if that's all you have, but those juices are pasteurized, and so they will not be as good as fresh. If you really want results with your skin, definitely try to squeeze in a least one fresh smoothie a day. Some pre-washed (or frozen) spinach/lettuce with either a banana or some frozen fruit is very fast! I really hope you see good results with them! :)

I will be adding some of this sometime when there's no frozen mangoes available. 🙂 I hate to buy it fresh and cutting them.. 😛 Plus, I can't find any organic fresh mangoes so I have to buy it non organic. 🙂 I think non organic should be fine as it's protected, because of its skin.

I buy organic frozen mango, but if there was non organic and it was a lot cheaper, I'd have no problem buying it. Most of my fruits I do buy organic since fruits are often heavily sprayed with pesticides. I'm not opposed to buying non organic now and then though as well. I probably buy too many conventional frozen veggies. However, I have heard of people getting over disease by eating lots of conventional produce. Organic is better, but the main thing I think is to be eating lots of veggies/fruits - conventional produce is better than no produce!
