I will definitely try mangoes the next my mom gets a big box of them from the asian foods store. At my nearest grocery store they don't have any frozen mangoes, just separate bags of strawberries, blueberries, peaches and mixed berries.

I also started using yogurt to put in my smoothies around the same time I began using peaches so that also could have caused my breakouts. I'm going to start with cutting out peaches and lowering the amount of yogurt I use. Maybe I'll up my greens intake as well.

Eddie,

I think doing three handfuls of greens a day is "more" than okay! 🙂 You're going to be like Popeye!! haha 😀 And, you are going to be such an awesome nurse!!!! Not only do you genuinely care about the well-being of others, but you'll also be sharing so many great truths about nutrition! We need more nurses like you!

Thanks!

Yeah. I've learn a lot about nutrition that I would like to share around/. 🙂

pun intended,

I bet it was the yogurt!!! Dairy is a big contributor to acne. Check this out: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-45...k-day-acne.html

Eddie,

Yes, you certainly do! :)

Ew, I tried adding cacao.. tasted so bad.. >_<

Perhaps the cocoa taste better? >_<

I ended up throwing it away.. lol

I added bananas, and mixed berries. I ran out of mangoes... 🙁 They didn't had any in stock.

Perhaps because I need to add honey?

Do green smoothies help to clean the liver or the colon?

Oh, yikes! I wish I knew how much dairy really contributes to acne. I will no longer use yogurt. Maybe a bit of almond milk would be alright? I tried using just kale today with strawberries and a bit of banana, it was...interesting haha.

If you want to mask the greens flavour and add a creamy base try adding a ripe Avacado. Heaven!

Just wanted to say I posted on here about a week back about how I was getting all these bumps from consuming the smoothies. I found out it appeared to be the bananas I was putting in the smoothies. I have always had a sneaking suspicion that bananas would give me small bumps when I ate too many.

Since then I have been switching out bananas with Blueberries,Green Apples and Strawberries and they have all went away. I am continuing to monitor the fruit I put in the smoothies but I haven't had an issue with blueberries, strawberries or green apples so I'll continue to use them.

Good times.

Glad you found out what was going wrong for you - banana's are very high in sugar. I do use them in my smoothies though because they're so nice and make it super sweet. I don't use more than 1.

Berries and Green apples are the best to use and as before, adding an avacado makes it really creamy and nice.

However after some research, Green apples seem to have the same amounts of sugar as regular apples.

I never thought about using avacados but now I definitely want to! The only reason I really used yogurt was to make my smoothies smoother (haha) now I'm glad there's something out there I can use to make it smooth again.

I have to say I'm in love with green smoothies! My favorite is lemon, strawberry, and spinach with stevia. Really wish I would have tried this before colostrum. Colostrum totally made me break out for 2 months and now I think I may have scars :(

If that's you on that picture, I would date you. Even if you had your face covered with scars. 🙂

I've read about 60 pages (on my phone, at work haha :naughty: ) phew. Anyway, I saw these a few years ago, got really excited, but then never even gave it a go. I'm wanting to start being a whole lot healthier & I remembered these :) I don't have terrible skin - blackheads mostly, dull grey skin, etc. so I'm doing this as more of a health thing & any improvement skin-wise will be a wonderful added bonus

I had my first one yesterday

1/2 apple

1/2 pear

Handful frozen red berries

1/2 kiwi

Glass of water

Handful mixed leafs (spinach, red chard, baby red leaf - are red chard & baby red leaf okay, I assume they are?)

That made about a pint in a Magic Bullet

It didn't taste bad, couldn't taste the greens at all. I did struggle to drink it all, I think it was mainly the amount as I was trying to chug a pint in one go & the pips(?) from the frozen berries, I don't like having to chew them. The texture seemed a bit off as well, I don't know what that was? Maybe the apple?

I made one roughly the same to take to work, but forgot. My brother was still at home so he drank it & said it was yum. It was a nice pink from the berries :) but he is colourblind so I think I could get a green smoothie down him anyway lol

Anyway! I had my second today, this turned out a looot nicer. I used a banana for my base which I think helped

1 banana

1 pear

Handful frozen red berries

6 grapes (my brother had eaten the rest of the bag!!)

Handful mixed leaves (spinach, red chard, baby red leaf)

1/2 glass water

This made under a pint - I drank it in two smaller glasses rather than a large pint glass & it didn't seem so daunting! Made more of a brown colour, but the colour doesn't matter to me :) Yum yum. This still had the red berry pips in it, but I just tried to ignore them. It wasn't as bad today :)

Before all my grapes got eaten ! I was going to freeze them to use them rather than frozen berries/ice cubes. No red berry pips to bother me either. Would this be okay? Is it okay to freeze other fruits - buy a pineapple, chop it up & freeze it?

I'm probably not having enough greens (about a handful) a day but I'm really focusing on doing this more for help with weight-loss, nutrition, meal (breakfast) replacement etc. It is a handful more than I was getting :D

Thanks in advance :)

Nicola

Any ideas how horrible blended spinach leaves and water would be? I'm holding out on fruit until I can con my parents into buying me some so I don't have to use my gas or money.

I do have a lemon and avocado. How gross would a spinach, lemon and avocado smoothie be? XP

436,

I would say yes to both your questions. Fiber helps keep everything moving, and greens are very healthy for you, especially if you're using cruciferous greens, which are very healing.

pun intended,

I think almond milk would be okay. I agree with BrissyGuy that avocados are great to add as well!

BrewCityBBQ,

Great that you figured out the culprit!! :)

amyelizabeth94,

Glad you're enjoying the smoothies so much! Sounds like a good recipe! :)

NicolaJMP,

Your smoothies sound really tasty, and you might just try blending a little longer to help with more smoothness. Also, make sure you're adding enough water. If they're too thick, they are a little hard to drink. I think freezing grapes and other fruits is a great idea, and how great that your brother likes them as well! :)

gMARIAs,

Actually, I think that might taste pretty good! I've done just greens, lemon and water before, and it wasn't bad - with the avocado thrown in, it should be pretty tasty!

Is it OK to mix kale and spinach?

And perhaps Collard?

Eddie,

It's fine to do a smoothie with a variety of greens. The main thing is to not do the same greens everyday - just try to mix it up. :)

Is there any reason at all green smoothies would give me stomach issues and cause constipation etc? Its just ever since fruit started to give me problems a few months ago i keep trying green smoothies but i keep ending up with disapointment. I find it quite weird they would give me problems though and i can only think its due to some other food or something, the smoothies should be fine and easy on the stomach shouldnt they?
