chons,
Thanks for writing! Wow, sounds like you are off to a great start!! Don't worry about tasting the greens. The main thing is to just get in a good handful or two.
Brissyguy,
You might need to share that cake recipe with us... I'm very curious.
BrewCityBBQ,
It's definitely a good idea to mix up your greens. As for getting too many nutrients, you don't need to worry about that when eating plant foods. A while back, someone thought they might be allergic to apples, and I noticed that you weren't using apples when you first began, so maybe that's a reason? Any other new foods you've added in? Must feel frustrating... I hope your good results soon return!
hesitation,
I can eat whatever I want (in moderation) without ill effects on my skin. I never worry about how a food will effect my skin - I just try to eat what I feel is healthy for me as a whole, and that's mostly plant foods. I've had many occasions where I've pigged out on bad foods and didn't break out from it. For me, when I was breaking out, I don't think it was so much what I was eating, it was what I "wasn't" eating, and that was greens. Before starting the smoothies though, I was mostly vegan, so I barely ate dairy, and I wasn't doing a lot of junk - I just wasn't getting in many fruits or veggies. There are many days when I have a little sugar everyday, because I eat dark chocolate chips. I melt them with orange juice concentrate, stir it all around, and then add berries. I eat quite a bit of honey as well.
I went shopping today and picked up my usual groceries of bananas, apples, beans and there was no frozen spinach! It was the first time I've encountered this problem. Oh well, I'll make a stew tonight or something!
Frozen spinach is fabulous. I buy 250grams for literally $1 and it lasts me a week since there are about ten cubes in there. Frozen is more nutritious. I could not live buying fresh spinach, seriously! It's so expensive.
Cocoa in smoothies is DELICIOUS but only but a little. If you put too much it'll be way overpowering.

I've never actually bought frozen greens or veggies. Only frozen berries. Do u really think its healthy to buy frozen greens? yeah, fresh spinach is pricey coz it goes bad pretty fast too!!
Just wanted to drop in and say I tried my first smoothie. I used spinach, lemon, blueberries, flax seed, and stevia. It was quite yummy, and I'm looking foward to having 1 a day!
I am happy for you! You made a great decision. I am on day 4, and my skin looks very smooth.. I am impressed with the results.. it's unbelievable. I don't break out.. and If I do, it will be tiny..this thing heals acne pretty fast.
You'll have good-looking skin in a week or two! I can assure you. 🙂
What's the difference between cacao and cocoa? For me, pure cocoa is $1 whilst cacoa will set me back $20!
Anyway, stevia is GROSS. I can't believe I waste $10 on it! I wouldn't recommend it to anyone, unless you get a really good brand, the taste is horrible.
Dancced, fresh vegetables and fruits is obviously great if you're eating raw (like apples or bananas) or using carrots, onions and tomatoes for cooking. But nutritionally, frozen is even better. It's a misconception that fresh is always better but snapped frozen is best since the nutrients are frozen. I know it's hard to get your head around it but there should be plenty of info online.
I always buy fresh for cooking and eating but it's cheaper to buy frozen berries when on sale.
Also, spinach is ridiculously expensive so I only buy it for salads and yes, they do go bad really fast - especially if they touch water or if it's humid and you haven't kept them in the fridge.
Guys, look into frozen spinach.
100grams for $1
250grams for $1.50
They come in cubes (about 8 per box) so you only need two cubes to equal a handful of fresh spinach. This is inexpensive and should last you a week.

I usually buy organic cacao powder from nutiva.
I don't know the different but it taste so dang good on shakes.
Brissyguy,
You've got a great point about frozen spinach! Are you buying organic frozen spinach? I ask, because spinach is one of the most highly sprayed in pesticides of all produce. I like to keep frozen greens on hand for when I can't make it to the store. I still like to stick to fresh greens, because I like my smoothies to count towards my raw veggies for the day, and frozen greens are considered pre-cooked I guess since I think they are blanched at high temps before being flash frozen? I absolutely love frozen veggies - they are what make it so easy to eat so healthfully!! It's so easy to just open a bag of frozen veggies and just steam them, or add them to a soup. I love not having to wash and dice.
amyelizabeth94,
Yea!!! Happy your first smoothie went so well, and I'm excited for you to make them a part of your daily routine!
EddieE,
I don't use cocao - if memory serves, that's the "raw" cocoa, right? I just use regular cocoa powder, and I normally do two heaping spoonfuls. 1 isn't enough for me, as I guess I really like a serious chocolate flavor. hehe
Brissyguy,
Yikes! Which brand did you get? I really like Sweetleaf, but you might be like me in that I don't care for stevia in foods. I use it to flavor drinks and love it for that, but I don't like the taste in food for some reason. I never flavor my smoothies with stevia.
pun intended,
Sorry to hear that. Maybe a delayed detox reaction? Did you change up the ingredients in your smoothie or start eating something new? Maybe it would help to keep a log of what you eat each day? I hope your skin improves soon. It must feel very frustrating, but hang in there.
Keep us posted!
Eddie,
Glad to hear it!! I'm really glad you're doing smoothies again.
Fairy,
do you know if it's safe to consume green smoothies daily for a three meals as a diet?
I use avocados, two hand fulls of kale and/or spinach, raspberries, lemon/lime, sea salt, mint, cinnamon, raw eggs for protein, and cucumbers.
I feel I can get all the nutrients I need with these ingredients.
H¯xRx¡´Å½,
I think a balanced diet consists of a wide-variety of fruits, veggies, nuts/seeds, beans/legumes, and some whole grains (though grains aren't actually necessary). With the smoothies, you're getting leafy greens, but you're not so much getting veggies such as squash, zucchini, asparagus, brussel sprouts, cauliflower, etc. Beans are also a wonderful protein source and also full of antioxidants. Nuts/seeds are important as well. If you're wanting some help a balanced diet and making it easy, let me know, and I'll send you my handout that has daily guidelines and easy recipes. Also, with smoothies, you're not chewing, and we actually do need to exercise our jaw muscles by chewing each day. So anyway, to answer your question, unless you're using all the ingredients above in your smoothies and finding a way to exercise your jaw muslces daily, I would say no.
hesitation,
Basically, you just want to make sure you're doing a variety of greens. Throw in some kale, collards, romaine, spring mix, etc. - just mix it up here and there.

I am not going to stop from drinking green smoothie. 😛 I want to increase the intake of this..
for twice a day. You think it's fine to do this twice a day? Like about 3 handful of spinach and some kale, or collard? With fruits of course!
Once I become a nurse, i am going to suggest people to drink green smoothie for health, etc. 😛
Eddie,
I think doing three handfuls of greens a day is "more" than okay! You're going to be like Popeye!! haha
And, you are going to be such an awesome nurse!!!! Not only do you genuinely care about the well-being of others, but you'll also be sharing so many great truths about nutrition! We need more nurses like you!
