You're my hero.
I can't wait to try this. It seems like the best idea anyone could possibly try - even if it may be gross at first, lol. But what got me what the part where it's like eating four servings of the food while you're only drinking one.
I'm 14, which means I can't buy my own food, and living with the parents that I live with -- well, let's just say they're not the healthiest people. I'm definitely going to ask them to take into concideration buying me some ingredients for this [daily] and we'll see how it goes!
Thank you so much, ABG Fairy.
heyhellohi,
You are very welcome! It's my pleasure to share this information with others. I really hope your parents will be open to the idea. If nothing else, perhaps you could offer to help around the house in exchange for some extra grocery money? A smoothie can be as simple as a handful of greens, a piece of fruit, and some water. Good luck, and please post if we can help with anything!
Just want to say, having cut out (almost! ha) dairy, I've been replacing my breakfast with lots of blended Spinach (the only leafy green in my house) and fruit every morning! And I think it's already helping!!
I will definatly be looking into buying more leafy greens (I don't even know what they are to be honest) when I get back off holiday next week, and probably buying a new blender!
Hazzah!!
x. charlotte .x,
That is wonderful news!!!! Thanks for posting!! For greens, focus on the cruciferous greens for now like kale, collards, spinach, mustard greens, bok choy, etc. These are the most powerful at helping to balance hormones. I'm hoping for continued success for you! Stay in touch!
Hi guys,
My bf and I have been doing the green smoothies for about a week now and we're LOVING IT! For the first bit I was doing:
2 handfuls spianch or kale
small bit of seaweed
banana
frozen berries
guava
ground flaxseed
It usually tastes pretty good unless I throw in the Vega (which is a vegan protein thing that I'm just trying to use up but will probably not buy again).
Anyways, things have been going great. Too early to tell how it will effect my skin, but it can only help... I've also been changing my diet a lot. Just whole, healthy foods. I eat one bad thing a day (for example, yesterday I had a cookie and the day before I had some creamy pasta with feta cheese), but I'm doing my best to avoid them. I'm trying to avoid dairy and soy as much as possible. I've also been drinking boat loads of water. I took some pictures last night, because I really like to be able to watch my progress. I'm currently using spectrojel for face wash and paula's choice bha as a topical. I'm too scared to stop using that just yet... I've also been doing urine therapy (yes I said URINE THERAPY) for about a month and it has helped with a lot of my big pimples but is by no means clearing me completely. Atm, I have mild-moderate (on the mild side right now) with lots of comedonal bumps on forehead and cheeks, and some inflamed acne on forehead, around chin and around hairline. I have a lot of red marks on chin and in hairline as well so they make my skin look worse than it is.
Yesterday I was out of produce and so I made a smoothie with what little stuff I had left and it was NASTY. It was made up of kale, LOTS of seaweed, ground flaxseed, berries and water. I was excpeting it to be ok but the seaweed made i taste really sour and the berries did not add any sweetness. I drank it anyways and so did my bf but it was pretty hard to slug it down.
I still havnt got around to trying the smoothie ice lolly thing yet but i was wondering if theres anyway of making a smoothie sort of into a ice cream style? Haha. My mum eats ice cream so much and i would love to be able to but it defiently worsens my acne, so does anyone have any ideas of what i could do?
I made this!!!!! Last night after I came home from shopping I was feeling sorry for myself because I'm sick and so I made a smoothie with:
2 bananas
10-15 fresh strawberries
2 tbsp cocoa powder
enough to cover half with soy milk
mmm it was really good as a smoothie but I also put a couple in the freezer in small containers with plastic knives sticking out. When it was finally frozen and I went to eat it though, the knives just slipped out and I ate it with a spoon and I think it was probably better. I plan on trying some with that liberte coconut yogurt and some raspberries and mango and well.
Anyways, sorry for the super long post. I'm just so excited about these!!! I'm right now so I have a lot of time on my hands.
K I'm back already. I just made the most delicious smoothie and I had to come back and post it.
3 big leaves of swiss chard (which when ripped up was two huge handfuls)
3/4 cup frozen mango
3/4 cup frozen berries
1 lemon
4 or 5 sprigs of fresh mint
2 1/2 cups water
Once I blended it and tasted it, it was too sour so I added 5 dates and it's almost perfect. Still a bit sour so if I make this one again I'll probably just do half a lemon. Also, if you like a thicker smoothie I'd put a bit less water in. I can't even taste the swiss chard though!! Mmmmmmm
This might sound silly, but I wonder if mint counts as a green?
SMT12483,
If your acne is mild, there's a good chance you'll soon see improvement with the smoothies. If it's more moderate/severe, it could take a little longer, and I would stick with lots of "cruciferous" greens. Good luck!
anticlient,
Glad you're getting back into smoothies!
kelsie123,
Thanks for your posts, and those recipes sound great!! It's always great to have a new green smoothie maker that's so enthusiastic!
rosette,
I recall only a handful of people saying the smoothies helped with hyperpigmentation, but we're all different, so it's worth a shot! You might want to look into salicylic acid and retin-a for help with that as well - and perhaps products with niacinimide as well, such as Oil of Olay's Regenerist Serum, as I hear lately that niacinimide helps to lighten skin. Good luck.

Yeah, I use retin-a every night.
I really, really do hope that the green smoothie helps with my scars since most of my acne (if not all) is gone and now I'm left with lots of redmarks on both cheeks ;(
Anyways, pray for me! 🙂
rosette,
"Lord, please guide Rosette to the knowledge she needs to improve her hyperpigmentation, and please allow the green smoothies to help with this as well." I found out about green smoothies within days after praying that God would guide me to the knowledge I needed to take care of my skin! Sometimes all we have to do is ask.
I really hope they help you Rosette!!

Hahaha! I love that prayer 🙂
And thanks alot!
One more question, did you have really bad acne/scars?
^ You're welcome Rosette! Pretty profile name, by the way!! I had mild, but annoyingly persistent acne that I was always having to cover with makeup!! When it started leaving behind mild scarring, I knew I needed to get serious about finding a solution! Luckily, it didn't take too long for the green smoothies to arrive!
I haven't read all 96 pages, so forgive me if this question has already been asked - but why do you need to have fruit and sweetners in your green smoothie? I tried one with blueberry, banana and spinach, and I was just left thinking, "This would taste so much better without the bitter spinach flavour ruining the lovely blueberry and banana flavours". On the other hand, when I've made savoury smoothies using say tomato, spinach, carrot, lemon juice, vegetable stock and savoury seasonings such as salt or Worcester sauce - yum yum yum!!!
I have nothing against fruit, I just don't care for 'em much with greens (although I do like a good carrot apple and orange smoothie - but there's no green in that, so doesn't meet your criteria)

Thanks, I love my profile name as well haha 😆
Yeah, I would say mine is ... moderate? I'm not sure.
It's just that, both of my cheeks have lots of scars left from a HUGE acne
breakout i had in november! The funny thing is, the scars on both cheeks
are on the SAME places! haha, makes me laugh.
It's just like a big circle with scars :/ Hopefully the smoothie will atleast lighten
these scars since I, as well, am ALWAYS having to cover them with makeup!
Gets annoying after a while eh?
Well anyways, thanks alot for your help!
I'm going to go out right now to buy the ingredients for my smoothie =)

You don't have to have fruit. The fruit is to cover the taste of the greens and most people find them delicious.
rosette,
I agree, it IS annoying!! haha Really hope you see improvements in that soon!! The exfoliation will speed up the process too. Got my fingers crossed for ya!!
BellaB,
Alternativista said it well - must of us just prefer the fruit. However, I have definitely made "all veggie" green smoothies as well, and those can be delicious too. It's just up to your personal preference. Most folks wouldn't like the idea of a "veggie smoothie," but are open to it if all you taste is fruit. Do you make sure you're including enough veggies for fiber though, because I do believe the fiber to be an important ingredient as well. Sounds like you are already a healthy eater that enjoys your greens - wooohoo! And, I "totally" get your point as well. Sometimes you can take two perfectly delicious foods on their own, but when combined, not so great. For example... some folks have wanted to add fish oil (well, not actually "delicious" on it's own, haha, but you get the idea!) to their smoothies, and I'm like, "NO!! Do it separately!!!!" hahaha

Thanks alot, ABG!
Well, I came back from the supermarket and made my smoothie!
It tasted great, actually! This is what I put in it:
1 - Spinach (they came in a bundle)
2 - Carrots
1 - Peach
1 - Celery stick ( I cut them up into small pieces and put it in)
1 - Cucumber
2 - Green Apples
And at the end, I squeezed an orange and stirred it. Also, as you can see ... most of them are green veggies/fruits.
It tasted awesome! (:
I will continue this daily.
Is it fine to have a cup in the morning and one at night?
Would that help at all?
Sorry if you already answered this by the way.
rosette,Wow!! That sounds like a great smoothie!!! So glad you liked it!! 🙂 I don't know if there'd be an extra benefit to doing part in the morning and part at night, but it certainly seems like a good idea to me!
Yup, it tastes real good! I made another one this morning.. kind of the same as the last one except I added more spinach and a bit of strawberries. Very good =)
Also, I've been doing this for about 3 days now and I can already say that I see a bit of improvement. The 4 scars that are by my jawline that were super red before are now pink! I'm pretty sure It's the smoothie because my derm told me not to use retin-a for 3 days, and during those 3 days I've been drinking my green smoothie so I now know for sure it's really helping!
I'm also much more energized and hyper haha (:
Thanks alot and I will keep you updated.
I know homemade smoothies are better for you than store-bought ones but I won't be able to get a blender in the next few weeks and would like to start doing this now though. Naked Juice makes a green smoothie that is very tasty and the ingredients look healthy enough...am I fooling myself though? Am I wasting my time and money by buying the Naked Juice Green Machine?
SMT12483,
Rather than doing the expensive, pasteurized green drink, I'd opt for green powders instead. Nothing compares to fresh, but these powders are excellent and contain additional things like spirulina, etc. A good friend of mine, who I consider to be a nutritional guru who thoroughly researches, takes these powders in addition to the smoothies. Below are the two she recommends, along with her notes. Hope this helps!
Green Vibrance - this is similar to a multi-vitamin except tons better in whole food form.... http://www.iherb.com/ProductDetails.aspx?pid=4749&at=0
Vitamineral Green - only available in powder - sold online through lots of nutritional websites - considered one of the best super green foods in the raw food world - http://www.healthforce.com/index.php?optio...1&Itemid=65
