Hi all,

I haven't done my smoothies for a few days because I had a really busy weekend. I've noticed such a decrease in my energy!! I was driving home this morning from picking someone up and I almost couldn;t keep my eyes open! I've got one right now. I have to say, I hate parsley in most foods but it adds a really nice flavor to the smoothies. Unfortunately I will be camping this week so I won;t be able to do them. I might go pick up some of that greens+ or something to mix with water. I don't have time to order one from the net so I'll just have to look around for whats in town. Grrr, I wish the campsite had electricity....

Also, I cheated a little bit this weekend on food but not too much. No processed junk or anything but lots of cheese and soy and butter and ONE strip of bacon which I think is pretty good restraint.

Hey guys.

Well, I think it has been about a week that I have been drinking green smoothies. I do see some improvement in my scars, they are definitely lighter and minimized now! I really hope everyone else gets great results fast like I did. Don't give up on it just yet!

Also, I have one question, would it be okay to use a juice extractor to make my green smoothie?

kelsie123,

I think the powdered greens would be a great option for you! I'm sure the folks at the health food store would be able to recommend a good brand. Have fun at camp!! :)

rosette,

I'm so happy to hear that your scars are improving so quickly! :) Juicing is a "wonderful" addition to smoothies. With juicing, you get an even higher concentration of nutrients, however, you miss out on the fiber, so I wouldn't replace one for the other.

Oh, I see.

It's because my blender broke and I won't be able to buy a new one for a couple of days...so I'm just going to have to stick with my juicer for now. Thanks!

^ Ah, sorry about your blender! You will be fine with just doing juice for a couple days! Just be sure to eat some fiber rich foods as well. :)

Dude, here's how I make my fave smoothie

1 cup almond milk (sometimes I use pineapple juice instead, depends what I'm in the mood 4)

1/4 cup unsweetened coconut milk

1 tablespoon organic coconut oil

2 bananas

1 cup frozen strawberries

2 tablespoons raw honey

1 tablespoon Bee Pollen

1 big scoop Boku Super Food

Blend all until smooth a 1 a 2 minutes

the best thing about this is that i can use the boku (a secret I got from my health nut sister) and it already has tons of greens and other good stuff already in it so i don't have to juice anything and it tastes way better than juiced kale or whatever.

Peace, keep the recipes coming

violetrose,

Oh my goodness, your smoothie sounds heavenly!!!! I love coconut milk! About the Boku Super Food though - it would be a great addition to your smoothie, but dehydrated greens cannot compare to fresh, so please don't skip adding in your fresh greens as well! With the two bananas and honey in your smoothie, a handful of mild greens like baby spinach or collards shouldn't change the taste all that much. Also, be sure to use a variety of fruits and greens! Thanks for posting your awesome recipe!!!!! Sounds amazing! You could probably open up your own smoothie cafe with that thing!! :)

Of course I didn't mean instead of, just in addition to. I eats salads nearly every day, I love to munch on veggies! I just meant that for smoothies, or in any drink, sauce, pudding, dressing (I put it in everything) Boku makes it healthier without all the crazy juicing and blending issues.

retin-a micro on my scars at night and it didn't really do anything. I'm really happy right now! :)

I've known about green smoothies for a while now.. but last year I really tried it after reading through this thread. IMHO, it's really one of the best methods in treating acne, or really anything i've tried or recommended to people.

In the first week, my face cleared up 100%, lost about 10 pounds (even though I lose like 3-4 pounds if I don't eat for a day), was never drowzy, and overall in a great mood and felt refreshed. Trying this was really simple, and just did the trick right away.

My family (who hate anything with vegetables in it) became addicted to green smoothies. After a while, I started recommending it to people. I've always had those talk to me about "having problems losing weight" etc. and I just tell them "research green smoothies and stick with it." works every time :). Within that years time, i've changed my diet (not radically like most on here), washed my face normally and almost stopped paying attention to it, and included green smoothies at least once a day... never had a real breakout since then.

tooblue,

Thank you so much for your feedback! These types of posts make me feel so happy. :) I'm so glad you got such great results with the smoothies (in more ways than one!) and that your family got hooked on them as well! :) If it's alright with you, I might include your testimony on the main post?

my problem is they just don't taste good to me. i know they help acne for the most part, but the truth is no smoothie is actually worth making to me. i'd rather just drink plain and boring water than go thru the hassle of making a smoothie that is gritty and shitty, pardon my french.

oh yeah i am french so don't flame me out, my fellow francophones.

meat_pirate86,

That totally stinks for you. :( Have you tried different combinations, greens, etc? What are some of your favorite fruits? Maybe I can help you come up with some smoothies combos you might like. Or, it may just be that green smoothies aren't for you - they can't please everyone, right? Maybe some all veggie smoothies or blended veggie soups are more up your alley.

😛 I speak french too, no worries. I'm betting your blender is just not capable of effectively blending up the ingredients. Greens are tough to break down and, in my experience, only a high speed blender like a Vitamix or Blendtec does a great job of it.

^ That is an excellent point!! You definitely want the greens to be thoroughly blended.

Hey, that's a really good point...I doubt my magic bullet is up to par on the green smoothie front!

I'm saving for school right now...does anyone have and recs to make a green smoothie without a high quality blender? I'm kinda strapped for cash.

Thanks for bringing this up. I mean I love the taste of arugula, lettuce, kale, broccoli, onion, etc. but the texture is just off-putting. The only green leaves I can really smooth-ify is baby spinach mixed with fresh oj... it really is delicious.

meat_pirate86,

I'm really glad shavingwoes thought of the texture/blending issue.... very perceptive on his part. :) I'm so used to my high-powered Vita-Mix that I forget about that being an issue sometimes! Somersoj recently posted that he liked this blender, which costs about $60, or $50 at Sams Club: http://www.amazon.com/Oster-BPST02-B-Profe...pd_bxgy_k_img_a . Another thing that helps is to just blend a little longer. Hope this helps!! :)

No problem :) And if you'd like to, of course!

At the very beginning, it was kind of hard to keep up with it.. but like said you really have to find what's good for your personal tastes. Certain types of fruit were just... too acidic for that much use. After drinking it a few times, my throat would be kind of sore- until I excluded, or lowered portions of certain types. Making enough to last for about 2 days also helped out greatly if I didn't have the time to do it daily :)

Anyone use whey protein powder in their green smoothies? I'm looking for a couple good recipes that use protein powder with the greens and fruit.

I just experimented with my own concoction for my first green smoothie and it's alright but I wouldn't brag about it lol. I put two bananas, 1/2 cup frozen raspberries, handful of frozen strawberries, a big handful of baby spinach leaves, 3 cups of water, ice, and two scoops of whey protein powder.

^ Thanks tooblue! :) And, I'm glad you've found a system that works for you!

Stephen01,

There are definitely quite a few people that use protein powders in their smoothies - just adding it in as you're doing is fine. I always recommend getting protein directly from food though rather than manufactured or processed. If you're on the fence at all, I recommend checking out some of the articles listed at the following link: http://www.google.com/search?q=whey+protei...;rlz=1I7GGLL_en . These articles are very credible, acquire information from only peer-reviewed studies, etc. :)

Thanks ABG Fairy, yeah I do try to get most of my protein from my diet but with weight lifting I require more so it's a little harder to always get enough from food. It's also important to get fast digesting protein that your body can quickly absorb after a workout and whey protein isolate for example is one of the purest forms of whey protein and it's something the body can digest quickly vs the time it takes to digest something like a steak. One of the whey proteins I've been using is Nature's Best Perfect Low Carb Isopure which is suppose to be a really clean whey protein vs the other cheaper whey concentrate brands. It tastes like crap though so that's why I'm trying to find a smoothie recipe that tastes better to mix it into lol.
