Eddie,

Are you concerned that the smoothies will break you out due to the cleansing process? If so, it shouldn't last long, especially since your skin is already in great shape. :)

meat_pirate86,

Coffee! Yum!!! :) I've never tried that!! I add cocoa powder all the time - usually with bananas and spinach or collard greens and some honey - I should try the stevia though. I use stevia in my tea all the time, but I always forget to add it to smoothies!! haha Thanks for the tips!

andersoj,

LOL about the wood chards! If you go a few pages back, I recommended a good cheap blender... but I don't remember what I was... I had a reason for recommending it though at the time. :) Also, maybe you could search this thread for blender and see what you come up with. A few others have posted which blenders work well for them. Another suggestion is to blend a little longer - you might also have dull blades. Good luck! :)

Okay, thanks. Since you said that, I am no longer concerned. I am going to add it back into my diet! 🙂

I've only gotten one acne from my new diet. 😐

probably due to the process cleansing. I hope!

PS: You probably like the honey more than stevia. 😛

I just made a smoothie this morning:

1 cup pink lemonade (minute maid frozen juice from concentrate)

1/2 cup frozen strawberries (I bought fresh yesterday and froze last night)

1/2 cup fresh strawberries

3-4 ice cubes

and BLEND!

OKAY - I didn't add any green =( I'm bad! I'm sorry! BUT I bet you COULD add some greens and it will still taste yummy!

Tonight, I am going to try adding a 1/2 cup spinich and 1 tsp vanilla extract.

This totally tastes like an orange julious dupe. Except WAY yummier and fresher!

Im digging my smoothies so much that I think I;m gonna splurge and get this baby. That is if Macys will take back my $24 piece of garbaaage.

My smoothies are consisting of any combination of the following

A bunch of kale and spinach

Frozen mangoes and or blueberries,

Diced apples

frozen bannans

So good and it could be placebo, but I'm feeling a little better than usual, more energy it seems.

Nothing to report on skin yet.

Yeah its much cheaper tuo make it yourself+ juice isn't the same as it lacks the fiber that the plant material gives you.

Has anyone who is currently on Retin-a Micro taken a "Green Smoothie"? I was just wondering because all the vegetables would be a mass amount of Vitamin A and Retin-A is supposed to give a great amount itself and I dont want to have to much Vitamin A because I heard that can break you out?

Polska Laska,

That smoothie recipe sounds delicious!!! Make sure you're using a 100% juice concentrate, and I hope you still like the recipe with the greens added in! You might find that you'll need sweeter fruit added to mask the greens taste, such an an apple, pear, banana, or mango. :)

andersoj,

Glad you seem to be feeling better and are enjoying the smoothies! That blender looks really nice! Let us know how you like it! :)

acneGOAWAY!,

I agree with the others in that it's healthier and less expensive to use fresh ingredients. Bananas are really cheap, and prices vary on the greens, so just be on the lookout. Also, discount places, like Costco, sometimes have great prices on greens. :)

Mkm1022,

That's a great question! You don't have to worry about that though, because your body will safely convert the beta-carotene within the smoothies to the amount of Vitamin A that is needs. That's one of the great benefits of eating plants foods - no worries about overdosing on potentially toxic vitamins! To learn more, go to this link and scroll down to the Vitamin A section: http://www.drfuhrman.com/shop/GCF.aspx . :)

pennyjai1,

Don't worry about how many cups you're drinking - just make sure you're getting at least one to two large handfuls of greens a day. If your acne is severe, do at least 2 handfuls of blended greens a day in your smoothies. :)

What do you think about products like supergreens where all the stuff has been crushed and dried? Will definitely take a lot less time...

^ Those are good but not as a substitute, as they can't compare to fresh greens. Don't worry about the time issue. One of the benefits of green smoothies is that they are so fast and easy to make (about 5-10 minutes). Instead of a bunch of chopping, you just throw everything in the blender! I can make a spinach/banana smoothie and have everything cleaned up in about 3 minutes. :)

Just did my first smoothie. All I can say is FAIL. lol...

Here's what it consisted of:

- two handfuls of brokoli

- 3 big strawberries

- half of avocado

- 10-20 hazelnuts and sun flower seeds

- some onion (bad idea)

- 1 lemon

It's pretty disgusting but I drank the damn thing anyway. I would definitely not be able to drink that for 2 months. I didn't really look at the recipes, I just took what I had in the fridge. Any advice?

Uhh, that is gross. Looks like you missed a few pages here.

You're only supposed to mix leafy greens with fruits. I buy leafy greens in a package similar to this:

So try a cup or two of that spring mix, maybe a cup of spinach, a cup or two of frozen berries, and an apple or a banana. That's it.

I missed the "leafy" part. Thought they should just be green. Too bad I made about 1.5 liters of it. Anyway, I'm going to drink it and wish me luck for the next one. Are they supposed to be gross?

Strato,

LOL!!!! Oh my goodness, I think it's probably safe to say that we've all made our fair share of "nasty" smoothies!! hahaha Sorry that happened to you though. Xtr3m gave you the right advice. Just stick with the basic recipe for now. When you start mixing in vegetables (the non-leafy kind) and ingredients like broccoli, avocado and especially onion, you're definitely heading into dangerous territory! haha Yes, those ingredients can taste great blended up (especially in soups), but since you're starting out, I'd stick with the basics for now. :) And no, they are not supposed to taste gross!!! haha

Let's get you started out right.... do you like apples, pears, bananas or mango? Whichever of these you like, blend up with "small" handful (since you're starting out) of "baby spinach" with one of the above, and maybe a few frozen berries. Baby spinach is mildest in flavor. You can add a little honey too. How does this sound? :)

Thanks! I bought a lot of stuff today but none of it can be considered leafy... I also forgot to mention that I had a few carrots in my smoothie as well. :D

I wanted to ask if there are certain things we shouldn't mix together? I mean can they rather have a bad effect than a good one? Not talking about the taste.

^ Carrots can be very fibrous and make for a really thick smoothie if too many are thrown in! haha As for combinations, if you have trouble digesting food, it's best not to mix vegetables with fruit (with the exception of leafy greens with fruit), but otherwise, it's fine to mix food together. :)

It sure was thick lol. I don't think I have problems with digesting... Going to get some leafy greens tomorrow.

Thanks again. I'll keep you posted!

If you're interested in taste; a simple smoothie of ripe bananas (with brown spots on them) + leafy greens is great. That's usually what I include as "base ingredients" and then add from there if I feel like something different.

^ That combo is my favorite as well, because it's easy to make, is inexpensive, and tastes good too. If using spinach, I sometimes like adding cocoa powder and honey to this recipe as well - tastes like a chocolate shake!!

I've been experimenting lately a bit with my blender and came up with somewhat of a dessert pudding that's amazing:

1 ripe banana

1 ripe mango (be sure to squeeze as much of the juice out of the pulp that's left on the seeds/peel as you can; helps it blend)

some greens (not too many; maybe 2 or 3 medium collard or kale leaves)

pinch of good sea salt (not required)

It helps if you've got a powerful blender, once it's all blended together it tastes like an amazing banana pudding. It also works with bananas & kiwis but their seeds give it a bit of a crunchy texture rather than the smooth pudding texture.

Been about 17 days on the smoothies and my skin isn't really doing better. It wasn't all that bad to begin with, but how long does it normally take?

Ive been throwing whey protein into them lately which makes them a loth frothier and helps the flavor and the blender I got is really nice. I found it in sams club for $50 dollars as opposed to 70 shipped from amazon.
