Is it bad to drink natural orange juice with my smoothies? because some people say it contains a lot of sugar...

So should i just add water???

carlitosbernal,

Fruit juices do contain concentrated amounts of sugar. You might try the smoothies without them for a while at first and then later add a little in and see if you can tolerate it. I avoid fruit juice expect for desserts - in which I use orange juice concentrate all the time! If you need the sweet flavor in your smoothie, opt for the whole fruit instead. Bananas, mango, pineapple, apples and pears will all add a sweet flavor to your smoothie. You could also try adding a little stevia. :)

If I am drinking these green smoothies daily, should I be eating more fruit throughout the day?

I read somewhere on here that some people break out from eating too much fruit, and i'm wondering if this might be the case for me.

So, if I drink these smoothies should I abstain from eating more fruit since I am already consuming the nutrients through the smoothie?

^ Yes, try limiting fruit to 3-4 pieces a day, and don't eat it all at once. I have listed some other diet suggestions on the first page of this post that you might find helpful as well. :)

aw eddie you're so cute!! Yeah spinach is great. It's really versatile too. If you can tolerate oranges, squeeze some orange juice in and blend it with spinach, it tastes AMAZING and the spinach makes it creamy when blended. Spinach is also good sauteed with garlic, salt, red vine vinegar and olive oil or ghee/butter. MMMMM

Hey Eddie!

It's great that you love spinach so much!!! It's one of the highest-nutrient, cruciferous veggies you can eat! :) 4 big handfuls in one day is fine - the more, the merrier in my opinion!! haha However, do use other greens as well.... ex, spinach one day, collards the next, or spinach one week, and mustard greens the next.... as long as you're getting a variety. It's "so" tempting to want to do spinach all the time though, as it tastes so great in smoothies!! I'm also very partial to collard greens. They have a stronger flavor, but I really like them. I usually blend them up with a banana, a little honey, cocoa powder and water... yum! :)

About the orange, I think adding it in, as meat_pirate86, suggested is a great idea. Some do have issues with orange, but I think that's probably rare. I wouldn't shy away from orange, as it's adds such incredible flavor!! I use orange juice concentrate all the time in desserts. I use it to make fruit sorbets and orange-flavored chocolate sauces. I haven't had any problems with it.

rand0m,

That sounds like a great smoothie!! Is this what you're doing everyday though? If so, it's a good idea to use a variety of greens. Kale is great, but I would add in some other greens as well on alternate days/weeks, like spinach, collards, romaine, spring mix, mustard greens, parsley, etc. :)

Eddie,

4-5 handfuls for two people is fine! Strawberries aren't very sweet on their own - you'll need a sweeter fruit like apples, pears, bananas, mangoes, etc. to disguise the taste of the greens. Add the strawberries in for extra flavor, but I wouldn't suggest using them as your base fruit. You could experiment though - maybe if you used a whole lot of strawberries it would be okay! Let me know how it goes if you decide to just do the spinach with strawberries. Good luck! :)

wow a lot of you r messed up in the head.. not insulting....jus u guys seem so psychologically messed cuz of wut you guys are eating. Uve made like a paranoia about food

Food has pretty much nothing to do with it. Unless u have allergic reactions to it or something. Eat wut u want ppl, unless u are capable of eating nothing but greens and losing 30 pounds...and keeping that diet for the rest of ur life... i hope there arent any guys in this topic.

Thuglife2k5,

Thanks for being concerned about us and posting, but we don't eat just greens - you're right, that would be very messed up. I see that you follow a very strict diet regime as well, and wow, you're really disciplined with all of your topicals. Eating healthfully isn't about being extreme or doing it 100%, but I definitely believe healthy foods should make up the majority of people's diet if they want to remain healthy and disease free.

Thuglife2k5,

I'm sorry you had a bad experience - that sounds tough. You must have been following quite a limited diet? Eat enough beans, starchy veggies and nuts/seeds, and you can definitely gain weight eating plant foods. :) I see from your signature that your skin is clear - I'm glad you have found a regime that works for you. Oh - I wasn't being sarcastic, you sound quite disciplined with your current diet and topical regime. :)

Eddie,

Thanks for the stevia tip! :) And, I think you would love using mangoes and peaches!!! I love using both of those!
