River Side,

Congratulations on your great results!! :) I remember how excited I was to discover that green smoothies would keep my skin clear! About juicing... except for the loss of fiber, juicing is superior to blended foods, because it's more concentrated with nutrients. However, if your digestion is not regular, it's very important to get enough fiber in your diet - *especially* for those with acne, in which case, the blended smoothies would be great. They are both helpful, and for those that are willing to do it, having a glass of juice everyday in addition to the smoothies is a great idea. :)

For your scars, salicylic acid (beta hydoxy acid) and Retin-A are both helpful. There are also certain oils, like rose hip oil (though it can promote acne), and essential oils that help as well. You might also want to browse the forum on scar treatments:

Hi ABG Fairy,

Thanks for your reply.

I would like to further discuss this vegetable juicing theory.

*I have started having boiled beans to provide me with the necessary fiber.

Question: I have been using the following vegetables daily to make a total of 4-6 glasses of juice. I make the juice once in the morning and once at night time (2-3 glasses during each session). Let me know if anything else needs to be added specially to help the skin?

Carrot

Beet

Broccoli

Squash

Spinach

Kale

Swiss Chard

Romaine Lettuce

Cucumber

Celery

Parsley

Ginger

Lemon

The final taste is amazing!!!

Good Effects

1) I get up early in the morning (WITHOUT ANY ALARM AT 6:30am - 7:00am). Till 15th Jan, i used to snooze the 7:00am alarm till 8:00am!! This in itself is so good for me, since i am the one with the responsibility of opening the office on time.

2) My eye-sight has improved. Although i do see blurry without the glasses, but within the next 90 days i think i can get rid of the glasses. My number is 0.75 and 1.00

3) I had small patch of skin with some rashes on my foot (between the toe and the index finger), which even on medicating did not disappear. But as a side-effect of vegetable juicing those rashes are vanishing!

4) My hair loss has reduced.

5) I have lost 4 pounds in last 2 weeks!!! Ofcourse i have been doing 45 minutes cardio as well every day for the last 2 weeks.

I did get one white acne yesterday, but it disappeared today! i have to find out the reason why?

I have changed my diet as follows : Stopped any packed / pre-processed / fried food

*2 eggs in the breakfast along with the juice and 1 bannana / orange (after the juice do not have space to drink milk)

*Lipton Green Tea throughout the day ( 8 cups from 9:00am to 7:00pm - thats the time i am in office)

*In the office i have started munching on Seasme Seeds, almonds, walnuts instead of my favorite oreo cookies

*Lunch & Dinner : i try to have either a salad from Quiznos or Bagel Buffet or boiled beans from my house

*Dinner : I also include the soup of spinach, tomatoes, beet or salmon or turkey

*Salmon alone had helped me in reducing the acne earlier

After changing my diet from burgers, pizzas, sandwiches, Chinese take-away to the above i feel more fit and energetic.

i was a average person who could not walk for 10 minutes on treadmill at speed of 4miles/hour, but now i can run at speed of 6 mph for 10 minutes!!! - In just 2 weeks!!! This in itself gives a great boost and encouragement!

Its been a great discovery for me, if there is anything that is more helpful that i am missing, pls let me know. I will sincerely appreciate your effort!! I seriously want to get rid of these acne from the root!

QUESTION 2 : I have an oily skin. For some reason, oil does not seems to stop pouring. Any suggestion for that - any vegetable to help that. Since initially i used to think it is related to the oily stuff that i eat - but i dont think thats the case.

And yes thanks for the information on the medicines for the scars - will do some research on the same today and will let you know if i need any assistance. Will i get these medicine from CVS?

*My initial source of inspiration : [Removed] : its a must to study this website.

Thanks & Best Regards,

^ I just did a quick glance over the blenders at Walmart.com, , and my eye caught the Osterizer 14-Speed Blender, 6694-015, because it's cheap, has good reviews and says it's good at crushing ice. At such a low cost, I'd think you'd have nothing to lose with that one! A lot of people start out with these types of blenders and do just fine. You might just have to blend a little longer in order to finely blend your greens. Good luck! 🙂

Hi ABG Fairy,

I had the acne problem from last 14 years. Just 2 weeks back i saw the Jack La Lene juicer ad and got highly motivated to get a juicer.

Today i have completed exactly 14 days of juicing green vegetables and the effects are clearly visible, i had white / red / pink all kind of acnes and pimples.... its all 70% cleared!!!

Am so happy about this.. that i would recommend every one to try this...

Infact i have followed exactly the same thing what you have described in your first post (but i read your post today).. it is highly effective

But instead of blending, i use a jucier... i sacrifice the fiber.... but i drink about 2-4 glasses of vegeable juice during the morning and at night as well...

i use all the green leafy vegetables along with ginger and lemon. I use carrot and beet as the sweetner.

it does tastes great... not only i have got the benefit in acne but i feel more energetic... just in 14 days.. have planned to continue for another 2 months!!!

All the best to every one!!!

Juicer OR Blender : According to the results that i have obtained from the juicer - i will not say that juicer is not beneficial. It simply work. Get a clear face (without any red blemishes or bumps after 14 years - is a great feeling altogather)

Now the only remedy i am looking for is for the scars.. i have about 20 scars (although small) on my face.. which i need to clear.. any advice on that will be appreciated!!

another guy with similar experience as me =D yeah took me arnd 2 weeks too. but slightly less to see reduction in inflammation. after taking green smoothie for 9 months or so daily. it seems to have long term effects. even though i have lowered frequency to 2 days a week, i dont get more den 5 pimples on my face, as compared to the 20-30 i get b4 trying green smoothie. and even more surprising, now i jst use tap water to clean my face and there is no diff from using those expensive facial products.

^^

Great its just unbelievable, i have wasted half of my life as well as loads of money and time, finding the answer to this question and the answer was in vegetables!!!

I am just waiting for the time to pass by and want to see my face 100% clear!!! To be honest - i have never been excited in my life to go back to my home ever before, but now i am just looking forward to my juicer every night every morning 🙂

I made my first green smoothie yesterday, it was pretty good! I used baby spinach, but kale is so cheap I'll find some uses for kale too. Most greens are so bitter, I have a hard time eating them even as salads or cooked. This is a perfect way to get those greens. Though I read that spinach has more nutrition in it if you cook it---anyone blanch their spinach first and then add it in?

I made an interesting smoothie today..... 2 big, huge handfuls of turnip greens, about 1 cup of frozen peaches... a garlic clove and about a 3/4 inch square of ginger!!! Surprisingly, it was really good! The ginger tasted really good with the peaches - and the garlic wasn't bad either, haha. :)

bluks,

So nice to see a post from you, and I'm so happy to hear that you're still doing so well with the smoothies! :)

River Side,

You are an inspiration!! Wow!! Your testimony reminds me of just how beneficial juicing can be!!! I am thrilled that you are getting such great results, and you have inspired me to start juicing more - just picked up a big bag of carrots. :)

CVS will have salicylic acid (BHAs), but in most cases, you need a prescription for Retin-A. I really like Paula Begoun's BHA products, and they are well formulated at the correct PH. These must be bought on-line though at www.cosmeticscop.com. For the essential oils, these can be found in health food stores or on-line.

I will send you a PM soon with more information that I think might be helpful for you. :)

rosiemarie,

I'm really glad your first smoothie was a success! With the spinach, I got great results when I used it raw and before I started eating cooked veggies. You could certainly cook it beforehand though if you'd like, and you might consider buying frozen spinach, as it is also cooked. I often add frozen spinach to soups and sometimes blend it up and add it to soups as well. Spinach always adds a gourmet flavor to soups I think. :)

Well, I will be starting this soon. Bought a blender and juicer a few weeks ago. We just moved and now I am so sick...and can't seem to shake it. I know drinking these would probably make me feel better but I can't manage to even get myself to the store to get what I need. :(

I am thinking I may have waisted $50 on a juicer seeing as how it's probably much easier to just blend everything. I am going to get that Green for Life book this week you recommend, by Victoria Boutenko and hopefully get this started later this week. I HAVE to get over this crud!

Thanks for all the good info in this thread....

I'mHeather,

It's my pleasure to share this information, and I am sorry to hear you're sick! :( The more raw fruits and veggies you can eat, the better. Your body is trying to heal, so you want to avoid heavier foods or too much food so that your body can spend its energy on healing. Your smoothie doesn't need to be complicated either - just throw in a handful of greens, a piece of fruit, some water and blend away.

You definitely didn't waste your money on the juicer!! Scroll up a bit and read River Side's posts about the benefits he has received from juicing. Both juicing and blending are beneficial, but juicing is actually more so, because the nutrients in juice are so concentrated. For those that are truly ill, juicing is the fasting way to heal, because the body is fed lots of nutrition and doesn't have to spend energy on breaking down or digesting food.

I hope you feel better soon!! :)

Yes!! This is one reason why I so strongly advocate to be sure to include cruciferous vegetables. You can even supplement with DIM. However, there are also other factors including in the greens such as beta-carotene, fiber, etc that help with acne. 🙂

yea i think my acne is due to a hormonal imbalance because i always breakout in the same spots on my chin and jawline and its either patchy red pimples or cysts. i rarley get zits anymore like i did in middle school. i dont know for sure if it is though what do you think??

Acne on your chin is hormonal, so I think you're a strong candidate for green smoothies!! 🙂 I would definitely give them a shot, and because you're getting cysts, I'd opt for two large handfuls of greens a day (cruciferous of course), and I would also advice speaking to someone at a health food store about temporarily supplementing with DIM to speed up your results.

Do you eat dairy? That can also interfere with hormones, so I'd advise cutting that out as well. In general, the less animal products you can eat and the more plant foods, the better. Also, you don't want to eat too many high-glycemic foods, so opt for low-sugar fruits (green apples, pears, berries), limited to about 4 pieces a day and only 1 or 2 servings of grains.

yea it has to be hormonal becuase ive gone days eating terrible carb filled sugary foods with alcohol and not had anybreakout, and then ive gone days where i eat great like salads veggies and stuff and i still breakout, ive been using omega 3 fish oil and that helped alot but i still breakout around the same spots. ive been juicing greens for about a month and a half now and my skin has been doing pretty good but im still breaking out a little bit on my chin and jawline.

^ Juicing is great! I would keep that up for sure! It will more quickly give your body the nutrition it needs than the smoothies will. :) If your digestion isn't regular, the smoothies would be good for additional fiber. The fish oil is good, and it's a good idea to take acidophilus as well.

r0ckst4r,

I only post what I truly believe in, and there are links in the first post to back up the importance of leafy greens if you're wanting more proof. The best proof will be to try it yourself of course, and I'm glad you're giving them a go. Good luck, and we're here to support you if you have questions. :)

Nemichka,

You are so kind to sign up just to leave a comment! Thank you! It always makes me happy to know my post has reached and helped one more person.

Your smoothie sounds delicious, and I'm so glad you liked it!! I'm still amazed at how easy and tasty it is to get in my greens. I sometimes feel like I'm cheating, haha, but it just goes to show that knowledge is power!

About being anemic, eating high-nutrient foods will definitely help - especially the smoothies! The following link shows how high greens are in iron: Iron, No Meat Needed . If you'd like to read even more articles about iron from this website (Dr. Fuhrman's blog - my favorite M.D.!!), just click here: http://www.google.com/search?q=iron+site%3...;rlz=1I7SNCA_en

I hope you continue to enjoy the smoothies and prosper with good health and skin! I'm more than happy to help with any questions, so please feel free to post. :)

If I am using the same bag of mixed greens for the smoothies evrytime i make them, does this count as mixing it up with the leafy greens? The mixed bag has collards, spinach, and kale I think. It's called Southern greens mix or something similar.

Also, there were a couple of days when I used frozen fruit only because I ran out of money to buy fresh fruit. Also, it's more convenient to use frozen. Is it okay though, to use only frozen fruit on occasion?

i stopped adding honey to mine because Dr Perricone states in his book that is is inflammatory. My smoothies taste pretty sour now, but i'm willing to make the sacrifice until I can figure out where to get stevia? I've seen it mentioned on these forums, but I don't know much about it.

Also, it's been about 2 1/2 weeks since i've tried these and I have not seen any improvements in my skin, but I have noticed that I have a lot of energy throughout the day and I feel better physically. I'm still waiting for my acne to clear up though. I'm also losing weight, but that's not something I want...i'm already thin.

I ordered green vibrance powder to add to my smoothies. I haven't gotten the packets in the mail yet, but i'm sure they'll arrive this week.

electric_feel,

So glad you're trying out green smoothies! :) I wish I had an exact answer for you about rotating greens. My personal opinion is that it's best to use one type of green for a while, then switch to another, etc. Some weeks I'll do kale, others collards, others mustard, and some weeks I'll do the mixed greens, etc. I don't know if it's a good idea to do the same green everyday, and with the mixed greens, you're doing several types everyday.

It's definitely okay to use only frozen fruit! You can find stevia at health food stores and health food type markets like Whole Foods. I rarely sweeten my smoothies. The more you drink green smoothies, the more you tolerate a taste for greens. I also use sweet tasting fruits like apples, pears, and bananas that naturally give a sweetness to my smoothies. Sometimes my smoothies taste "very" green, but that's okay with me. :)

Glad you're feeling better on the smoothies! I'd give them at least 6 weeks to see what they can do for your skin. However, depending in your condition/current health, it could possibly take a few months before you see improvement. In the meantime, it's great that you're feeling better and adding lots of nutrients to your diet on a daily basis!! :)

I'm another advocate of green smoothies! They are so yummy, and it's so much fun experimenting with different produce (although some of the "failed" recipes taste...interesting, to say the least).

Whenever I have a sweet tooth, I add more fruit than vegetables.

I try to drink 1-2 glasses each day, and definitely noticed improvements in my skin and hair texture.

Thanks for sharing your info with us ABG Fairy! ;)
