bluks,You can eat a hard boiled egg in less than a minute, so I would just eat them separately - not sure how they'd taste in a smoothie. If you're just doing one egg a day, it's okay to eat the yolks - lots of good nutrition in there. 🙂
=D okay. i realised the cocoa powder makes the green color go away! i remember you add cocoa powder to your smoothie too right? healthy stuff! =D
Paul25,Olive oil is low nutrient, high calorie food. If you're looking to add in extra fats, just stick with the nuts/seeds like almonds, walnuts, cashews, sunflower seeds, etc. You might consider chia seeds as well (I haven't tried this yet). Your smoothie sounds great, but I'd leave out the olive oil. Also, taking an omega 3 supplement, like fish oil, is fine. 🙂
Thanks for your reply 🙂 I also have some hemp seeds, i was just wondering will it be alrite to put a different selection of seeds in one smoothie, or is it best to stick to just one type of seed for each smoothie?
Hey Danny!
I think most people use the low-powered (regular) blenders to make their smoothies and do just fine. One key is to just blend a little longer, use enough water, use small pieces of fruit, and try to stick to fruits/greens that are softer and easier to blend. Baby leaves like romaine and especially spinach should blend easily - always de-stem leafy greens like kale, collards, etc., when using a low-powered blender. Fresh bananas, pears, peaches, mango, plums, etc. should all do well. If using frozen fruits, you can let them de-thaw a little first. Hope this helps!
When i have left the remainder of my smoothie in the fridge it has always been horrible later on in the day when i try to drink it. This has left my to drink all of it in the morning, these cups i use hold alot and they are full up. Does it really matter how much of a smoothie i have at once as i prefer to just have a whole load at once instead of keeping it for later?
Paul,
Ideally, it would be best to spread it out over the day, but I don't think that's practical for most people. I pretty much drink mine all at once too. I'm not sure though why your smoothie is gross after just a few hours of refrigeration. The fiber usually goes to the top, so they usually always need to be stirred up again - are your refrigerator settings cold enough?
I'd like to know the results of the people who've used this method to help clear their skin. It's unfortunate that this thread is like 99% about how people make smoothies.... Guess I could do a search but my god that's a lot of work for a thread this size.
I've only been making the green smoothies for a week now.. 3 a day.. one after breakfast, lunch and dinner, and I absolutely love them. My skin has definitely had a new found "glow" to it (granted, I also began fish oil pills at the same, so it could be either or, or both). If nothing else, they make me feel great!

Its possibly just down that i need to stir it all up again, its sometimes abit difficult to drink a big smoothie in the morning so it would be nice to be able to save some. I made another smoothie tonight instead of eating some rubbish food so it would be good to start getting 2 a day, but it didnt come out to great (apple wasnt cut up properly, ew) so its now time to get a high powered blender i think.

Doing the smoothies everyday is pretty easy - the best way to know if this will work for you is to just give it a try. If your acne is severe, I would also suggest doing green juices.

Good for you for eating greens instead of rubbish. 🙂 If you cut the apple into eighths and blend a little longer, that might work. Otherwise, a high-powered blended is definitely a great thing to have. 🙂
I have a half pound of cassia cinnamon powder. I want to dump a lot in, but I know too much of the oil can be bad. How much should I dump in there because my smoothies may have a bit of sugar.
Perhaps a full teasoon? 2 teaspoons? What is the utmost allowance of cinnamon consumption for a sitting? Whatever it is I'll match it!! Oh yeah from my last experience you can put pumpkin and onions in the smoothie and the cinnamon will make it delicious.
Hm, I also have garlic and turmeric. Perhaps add that in too? Ah, jsut a sprinke of bentonite clay also! Now that'd be a smoothie of earth. I'll be the behemoths of smoothies.
LOL! hahaah Maybe some pure dirt too? haha The pumpkin, cinnamon, onion sounds great! I don't know how much cinnamon is too much - maybe start with a 1/2 teaspoon (or 1/4 tsp), see how that tastes and then add more? I think adding garlic and turmeric is a great idea! I love using turmeric in recipes, and it's so healthy!

That is one mother smoothie lol - did you digest it all ok? 🙂
Blessthefall,
Wow! You have a lot of really great ingredients in that smoothie!! Good for you! Is the black walnut hull just a temporary thing? Just checking, because you don't want to be taking that on a daily basis. Instead of the whey protein powders, would you be open to getting your protein by blending up nuts/seeds in your smoothie instead? Sunflower seeds are a great protein source. Keep up the great green smoothie experiments! hehe
I'm going to marry abg fairy so I can have lovely smoothies for breakfast lunch and dinner. lol just kidding, but I love this thread, so positive and so many great recipes!
 Aww, haha, thanks NdnRomeo! 🙂 Your positive and helpful posts among the boards are very appreciated as well. Thanks for stopping by! 🙂
Hi. I just want to put in my two cents on green smoothies for acne.
I have been drinking at least a quart of green smoothie each day for the last month. (For the record, I began for the sake of good nutrition, and had no expectations as to acne relief. Also for the record, I am 25, and my acne has always been primarily in the form of stubborn blackheads and enlarged pores.)
Today my skin looks better than it has in years. It feels SOFT. My pores are clear, and I have almost no sign of inflammation. My only present gripe is the handful of ice pick scars and scarred pores that are left behind, but it feels like a luxury to worry about them at all. I believe that the green smoothies are responsible for the change. Now, to be thorough, here are some potentially confounding variables:
I began jogging regularly about 2 months ago, and I have recently been wearing sunscreen more often. I have also been using daily glycolic acid and Retin-A since January, BUT I did not see considerable improvement in my skin until a couple weeks after I began drinking green smoothies.
Bottom line: I put a lot of stake in the scientific method, and research has consistently claimed that diet has little bearing on acne. That said, the foods we eat are known to have a profound effect on the functions of many organs throughout our bodies, and our skin is an organ. If spinach can help prevent colon cancer (it can), and walnuts can help prevent gallstones (they do), then I believe that a diet full of the terrific nutrients in green smoothies can help prevent the inflammation that leads to acne. I am the happiest, acne-free guinea pig in the lab!
Thanks for reading- however you are treating your acne, I wish you luck beating it for good!!

I'm not kidding guys, ABG has the best skin I have pretty much ever seen. Drink your smoothies.
Hmm, I've been drinking green smoothies for over half a year now. I've always put more veges than fruits but then today I was wondering why?? I mean they always say 60:40 ratio, but isn't fruit good for your skin anyways? Why would it matter if we put more fruit as long as we consume the same amount of greens?
Does fruit sugar break people out? I thought berries (blueberries, raspberries, etc) were anti-inflammatory?? I generally use 7 cups of chopped kale, one or two bananas, and a mixture of pineapples and mangos, four or five frozen strawberries, then enough mixed berries to make it look like poop.
(Another question, does bananas break people out? I've heard some people have problems with them, but it just makes the smoothies soooooo much better)
Thanks!
