I decided to write-up exactly how much nutrition I was getting out of these smoothies. This one is based on a smoothie made with broccoli, spinach, apple, banana, clementine, yogurt, and almonds. It's assuming you're drinking 1/4 of the total smoothie you blended:
Calories: 180
Carbs: 27 grams
Fiber: 6 grams
Vitamin A: 100% (mostly from beta carotene)
Vitamin C: 64%
Vitamin E: 7%
Vitamin B6: 15%
Calcium: 16%
Iron: 8%
Magnesium: 17%
Potassium: 16%
Zinc: 7%
Copper: 9%
Manganese: 36%
Selenium: 7%
Omega-3 fatty acids (mostly from ALA): 120 mg
just a quick progress report =D (and to help keep this one the first page ) but yeah my smoothies are going well. My skin does seem better... can't really explain it, not clear or anything but just better =) Softer or something. My only issues are getting hold of the spinach... it goes super quick from my Tesco and I've not been wanting to bulk buy more than 2 packets because I want it to be super fresh. Tried some rocket I think it was the other day as well because they didnt have any baby spinach... it was horrible =D Not super horrible... just really like tangy lol.
To whom it may apply to.
Hi. Iv' been struggling with acne for abuot 3 years, but with severe acne for 9 months. This year was a disaster. My self esteem was so low that I was suicidal. I prayed for 9 months straight, believing that Jesus would heal me. He didn't. I lost faith in God and church so many times, because now I can't enjoy life. I know understand praying doesn't help if you don't try to stop sinning. I masturbated alot this year.(more than I ever had). I was quick to pray, but not quick to give up masturbation. I was mad at Jesus, but I later found out that God will close his ears to habitual sinners that pray. So I stopped masturbating for longer than I ever had. The acne seemed to have gotten worse, until I found this website. Cutting off that terrible sin was just half of what I needed to do to become cleansed. It was in my spirit to share my story with a lost one, and I know this will help a lost soul.
Now this is what is going to happen tonight in my sleep, as seen in my vision;
I will be sleep. Jesus is going to walk over to me in my sleep, and notice that I have strayed away from that sin, and now I am cleaner(spiritually) than I have been in these last 3 years.
He is going to say that he loves me, then he is going to put his perfect hands on my face and heal me. But if I were to masturbate again(Which is hard not to) the acne will come back 2x worse than before. But when I wake up in the morning my face will be a reflection of my love for the most high(GOD).
I used mangoes and pawpaw to give a nice thick, smooth consistency to my smoothies. Now they are out of season, so I've been using rockmelon, but they aren't as good.Does anyone have any other fruit suggestions to give my smoothies a smooth consistency?
I don't know if this helps, but at my local Whole Foods they have frozen mangoes for $1.99. When you say they are out of season, do you mean that even though you can still buy them, you would rather get something that's in season?
hey peeps!
http://www.ars.usda.gov/SP2UserFiles/Place...ORAC/ORAC07.pdf
here's some data regarding the ORAC (Oxygen Radical Absorbance Capacity) of 277 foodsstuff, including fruits and vegetables, which might come in handy when you are choosing the ingredients for your green smoothie.
For easier reference to the table of data, heres the gist to the intro for the data ; some of the subheadings used for data representation:
1) A confidence code (CC) is derived from the QI and is an
indicator of the relative quality of the data and the reliability of a given mean.
2) ORAC Values are reported for hydrophilic-ORAC (H-ORAC), lipophilic-ORAC (L-
ORAC), total-ORAC, and total phenolics (TP).
3) the mean value
(mg/100g), standard error of the mean (SEM), minimum (Min), and maximum (Max.)
values were determined for each food and ORAC value.
**one thing that took me by surprise was the amazing ORAC values for 'baking chocolate'/ natural unprocessed cocoa, 'cocoa powder', and herbs like 'cinnamon' and 'cloves'. however do note the significant difference in ORAC values between baking chocolate, cocoa powder, cocoa powder (dutched), white chocolate; the one with the highest ORAC value would be baking chocolate or natural unprocess cocoa powder (have not undergone the dutch process)

Ooh, frozen mangoes! I didn't think of that, thanks. 😉
When I say out of season, I mean, I can't buy them fresh at a reasonable price, if at all :wall:
Hi. I've been doing these for about a week and I can't see any difference on my face just yet but I've noticed that my energy is much higher. I also don't feel tired after lunch like usual or days after I haven't gotten enough sleep. Also, I have asthma and the city I live in now is a bit polluted, and I've noticed since I've been drinking these, I can get really nice, deep breaths. So I'm thinking if it's working on the inside, it's just a matter of time before it starts to show on the outside. Plus, they are delicious! Thanks for this idea!

Haha that's great!
you will see a difference very soon, I can assure you.
And now, as summer is coming, green smoothies will be a delicious treat to drink outside!
bluks,
Thanks for the cool info!
i_ming,
Store bought juice is pasteurized and won't give the same results and fresh ingredients. Glad you're going to try the smoothies!
happiness1,
Wow!! That is so great! Thanks so much for sharing that with us - I hope your results continue to get even better!!
hey i was reading about people recommending nutritional smoothie for breakfast which include not only greens but also less sweet fruits like raspberries, blueberries, etc. as well as protein and healthy fats all blend as one and drank as the first meal. one smoothie (low in sugar) that i thought of, contains the following ingredients suitable for those who want to maintain muscle mass or gain more muscle mass for that matter while remaining healthy:
1) 1 handful of greens. (fibre + chlorophyll)
2) 1 oz berries (flavanoids and antioxidant)
3)a) 250ml(1 serving size) calcium enriched organic soy milk (unsweeten) (7g protein and approx 300mg calcium)
3) b) 200ml(2 serving size) non flavoured original yogurt with live cultures ( alternative to soy milk with approz 8g protein and 300mg calcium)
4) 1 large apple with skin (3.5 inch diameter) (pectin fibre and low sugar)
5) 2 tablespoon ground flax seed (lignan + omega 3)
6) 2 tablespoon organic virgin coconut oil (healthy fats that can be an alternative source of energy + anti-bacteria anti-fungal)
7) 2 oz walnuts (omega 3)
8) 2 tablespoon unsweeten non-dutched cocoa powder (rich in flavanoids, higher then all berries per unit mass + relatively low in caffiene compared to coffee )
9) 2 tablespoon organic unsweetened vegan protein powder ( 8g soy, rice protein)
i read the first meal (breakfast) is very important and should contain approx 500-700 calories worth of food including quality protein and fats with complex carbohydrate. if they are blended it would be even better because we can absorb the nutrients better in the morning. this would help maintain the energy level thoughout the day.
what do you guys think about the smoothie above? i also heard proteins and fats slow down / inhibit absorbtion of nutrients from greens and fruits. hmm
Are you able to put olive oil in green smoothies? If so, does it effect the taste much?
Also, i put wheat germ and sunflower seeds in my smoothies, could anyone recommend anything else like these to put in them?
EDIT: Okay, i made a smoothie that contains the following....
-2 handfulls of spinach
-1 apple
-1 banana
-sunflower seeds
-4 teaspoons of wheat germ
-2 teaspoons of olive oil
is that all okay? Also i take a omega 3-6 and 9 supplement which contains the oils Starflower Oil, Flaxseed Oil and Fish Oil. Would this effect anything or cause problems for what im having in the smoothies?
i have been doing this for a few days now...and some have tasted...like ground salad. I had to CHEW it....ew. i like when there is more water in them, about 2 cups. Also another thing i just discovered....frozen apple juice concentrate. I use one spoonful rather than honey and it makes it taste great!!
bluks,
Thanks for the recipe! It does sound good. If it were my smoothie, I'd leave out the protein powder, because it's better to get your protein from actual foods, as protein powders really aren't all that good for you. Dairy is a major acne trigger for many people, so I'd be cautious with the yogurt. I'm not a big fan of doing lots of soy either. If you're wanting to make the smoothie creamier, you could blend in some nuts and seeds instead of the soy milk. Fats actually help in the absorption of nutrients from fruits/veggies, so no worries there. I don't consider coconut oil a health food as many others do though. It's a saturated fat and doesn't contain many nutrients - I'd recommend blending in nuts/seeds for your fats instead.
Paul25,
Olive oil is low nutrient, high calorie food. If you're looking to add in extra fats, just stick with the nuts/seeds like almonds, walnuts, cashews, sunflower seeds, etc. You might consider chia seeds as well (I haven't tried this yet). Your smoothie sounds great, but I'd leave out the olive oil. Also, taking an omega 3 supplement, like fish oil, is fine.
somebodyluvsu,
Having to chew your smoothie is definitely nasty. haha Have you tried blending longer? The apple juice concentrate sounds really yummy! Thanks for sharing!
Hi Guys
Quick Intro, I am 24, have adult acne on my neck and back, nothing at all on my face, I am also suffering a bit of hairloss and I think my acne is mainly hormonal. It has got a lot better recently with the addition of Taurine, Fish Oil, Vit B complex and use of a natural soap along with lavender oil.
Has anyone tried supreme greens with MSM?, Its a powder that is a substitute for vegetables and its supposed to be excellent for energy etc, Would this be similar in effect to the smoothies?
Thanks

hey thanks for your suggestions! however.. i was thinking of increasing the protein content in the smoothie because its my breakfast and i jst want it to be purely in liquid form. i couldnt think of any other ways to incorporate protein into the smoothie apart from the soy protein powder and soy milk. the soy protein powder i use is " non-gmo, organic, natural flavour and unsweeten and include other vegan protein like rice protein with no preservatives or other added ingredients" i suppose that should be alright to consume on a daily basis.. almonds might work but im not too sure if my blender will have a hard time grinding those raw almonds. walnuts shouldnt be a problem but its low in protein. is there other nuts that are high in protein but low in carbohydrate that you know of? i want at least 15grams of protein in my breakfast smoothie.
regarding the dairy in yogurt. i am very sure it does not trigger acne for me because i was off milk and yogurt for 3 months straight and there was no significant improvement in my skin condition. i should be tolerant to lactose and dairy. thanks for the reminder though!
i think its true that virgin coconut oil doesnt have many nutrients but its the medium chain fatty acids that are beneficial to our digestive and immune system(anti bacteria fungal viral). i also read that although it is a saturated fat, it is readily broken down and assimilated in the liver to form energy, thereby providing energy just like all carbohydrate do, but without the spike in blood glucose level. im sure you have researched on that but im not sure why you would'nt regard it as healthy...
bluks,
Sunflower seeds are high in protein. Are you okay with eating eggs? Of the animal products, they are the best source of protein. I like hard-boiling several eggs at once, and then I eat them throughout the week. See... I'm only "mostly" vegan.
About the coconut oil, you can scroll down to Dr. Fuhrman's comment, and hopefully then you'll understand why I'm not a big fan of using coconut oil on a daily basis. http://64.233.167.104/search?q=cache:SgBJA...;cd=2&gl=us

i shall check out the nuts and seeds sold at a nearby healthstore soon!
regarding Dr. Fuhraman's comment. i notice, just like many others did who commented on the webpage, that he's claim about virgin coconut oil containing a majority of long chain fatty acid is flawed because he considered lauric acid (12 carbon chain fatty acid) to be long, when it is in fact classified under a medium chain fatty acid. (lauric acid forms approx 45% of the total fatty acids in coconut oil) nevertheless i shall try to lower my coconut oil intake just in case. thanks for the info!
im ok with eggs but do you think they could be blended as part of the smoothie? ive never tried it but ill definitely leave out the yolks or at most consume 1 yolk once every two days.
