Ahmad,

I'd continue with the bp if you're still having breakouts. You might check the reviews at www.paulabegoun.com and see if your salicylic acid is mentioned and whether or not it's well formulated. She makes a great 2% salicylic acid.

Sounds like that man gave you good advice about staying away from animal products. I hear it's best to stay away from synthetic b vitamins too, as they can be damaging. How about getting your b5 from food sources? You could add collards, broccoli and sunflower seeds to your smoothies. 🙂 Food sources: http://whfoods.org/genpage.php?tname=nutri...=87#foodsources

Panda,

So glad you're doing better, and I think taking DIM to speed things up is a great idea. Thanks for your update! 🙂

Matheus

On occasional when I do get a blemish, my red marks can still take a while to fade - I really didn't notice a difference in speed of healing, though several people have posted that they have - I'm glad you have too! 🙂

i love sunflower seeds, i used to always eat those whenever, i would always get a big bag of them and just eat them, I got natural B5 vitamins in pill form and today im going to get B-complex pills to help absorb the B5 but i wanna know if doing all this is really worth it? I made a schedule to take a pill every 2 hours until i've taken 10 pills then start again after i wake up for example, 1:00 take one B5, 3:00 take one B5, 5:00 take one B5 with B-complex, 7:00 B5 and on my last dose i take another b-complex before i sleep, is this the right way to do it?

i bought a super B-complex supplement, natural of course, it says to take one daily with a meal. So how do i exactly take the B5 with this complex? i was thinking, i eat a meal then take 1 B5 with the complex then every other hour take the b5 until i sleep i take a B5 with the complex. WIll this work?

Ok, strange thing, i have been taking the B5 every other hour and half or so ever since 1PM and its 7:44PM now, the first dose was the B complex, which smells like cat or dog food, and the B5 vitamin, i have taken about 4 of the B5 today and i recently used the restroom and noticed that my pee is extremely yellow with a golden tint or look to it, i have been drinking water all day and i have drank more than the recommended 8 cups a day. Is the B5 absorbing all the water i have been drinking? is the vitamin working properly? whats going on?

That's normal. All the excess B vitamins that the body doesn't absorb are expelled through the urine making it bright yellow and or neon green looking. That's why megadosing on B5 or other B vitamins is usually very wasteful since the body can only absorb so much.

what do you recommend i do? i've only taken the B complex with the first dose of the B5 after a meal, how many times do i take both the B5 and the b complex to help get the B5 absorbed?

Honestly, I wouldn't even recommend megadosing on B5. It can get expensive and it's wasteful, plus there can be side effects. B5 IS being absorbed by the body, it's just that the body can only absorb a certain amount of it, so the excess goes out through the urine, and that's why you have to take so much B5 so the body has a constant supply of it, but there will always be waste. Have you read any of the info in the forums? It's really up to you if you want to keep with it or not. Personally, I'm fine with just taking a B-complex every day

well i was thinking of taking B- complex twice a day, one in the morning and one at night, and in between take like 2 or 3 B5s. Do you think that would be good to help clear up my skin?

Probably not, the thing about B5 is that you need to take A LOT of it. Up to 10 grams of it a day. I don't know if you've read the B5 thread, but if you're really interested in it I'd read up on it. You'd probably get better recommendations if you post your questions there instead.

I've been drinking these smoothies for a week now (doing the regimen as normal too) and i've only had 1 pimple this whole time and my skin has cleared up. It's less oily and way less discolored on certain areas. If it continues I should be clear very soon!

Fairy, are you basically saying that although you have a very healthy diet, perhaps the main reason you stay clear is because of these smoothies???

Hey Betty, maybe the next time if your quoting someone you could summarize the points you are replying on and cut the rest? No offense, but this wastes half of the page...

jay6,

Great news!! Keep us informed on your progress - glad to know you are doing so well. :)

ahmad89,

Did you make your smoothie? hehe Definitely don't won't to be a stranger to your greens! :)

Breakout Betty,

If you have fresh greens, I would use those as well. Dehydrated greens are good, but they can't compare to fresh greens. Your smoothie sounds good. Thanks for posting. :)

tobias,

Yes, that's exactly what I'm saying, and it's still true for me. A couple weeks ago I went a few days without my blended greens... soon after, a nice little blemish appeared on my chin. For me, it's imperative that I get my greens. I believe greens are important for everyone - did you look at the quote on the first post by Dr. Fuhrman talking about the importance of greens for regulating hormones? If you're considering the blended greens, I hope you'll give them a try. :)

Does anyone ever freeze their greens and use them in the smoothie? I want to keep things fresh, but I don't want to make several trips to the grocery store in one week.

I'm still having a glass full of greens every morning and I my fav now is baby spinach leaves, bok choy leaves, mango and cinamon.

I still don't think it's helping my skin much, but I love them all the same

 I put on my ear protection earmuffs today, and the band that goes over your head *snapped* and hit my nose!! Felt like there was a big gash, but it's really just a minor scrape. Still though, that was scary! I'm glad it didn't hit my eyes!! Mine are 2 years old, so I guess they were due to break. For those of you that are using earmuffs with a plastic band on top, don't widen the earmuffs in front of your face! Need to get a new pair soon - I'm using aviation headphones in the meantime.... LOL. Just did a quick search at home depot and found this cute pair for women - they don't have the breakable scary plastic band on top either: http://www.homedepot.com/webapp/wcs/stores...mp;ddkey=Search

calla lily,

I don't freeze mine, but I've definitely heard of people that do. I would think rinsing your greens and then drying them in a salad spinner would work well. Once they are completely dry, you could then store them in the freezer. Keep in mind too that spinach lasts a long time - I usually save it for later in the week for that reason.

wanabeacnefree,

So glad you're still doing the smoothies! How long has it been for you now? Like bchapais, I'd be curious to know what else you're eating as well. Have you checked out the thread on DIM? That might be a good way thing to do for a few months to help accelerate balancing your hormones. I'd give the smoothies at least 3 months though. :)

I have been making these for about the past two weeks. There are a few random days I dont make one, but I always try to have one after I workout. The best one I have made recently was:

1 whole apple (with the peel)

handful of baby spinach

tablespoon of apple cider vinegar

1 banana

one small scoop of frozen yogurt

green tea

its great! and you cant taste the acv since there is a whole apple in it! its great! and i feel so great after i drink one.

Hi ABG Fairy! I just finished my 7th week of green smoothies a couple of days ago, after introducing DIM for my hormonal problems I'm a week or two away from being COMPLETELY clear, red marks and all. So my plan of having it speed things up has worked rather nicely  I owe my success to these green smoothies and really learning to listen to my body to know what it needed

Wow, that's great!!

DIM is working great for me aswell and just started juicing! 😉

Check out my DIM log here. I'm on day 13, but haven't updated it for today yet:

I did it the other way around. I had been juicing for a while now and was having great results then added DIM to speed things up. Glad things are going great for you too! Good luck with your green smoothies. Once you get into them it's hard to stop 😀

NVM, i looked it up goin to try that, is it safe to take this with vitamin B5 and B-complex?

I've been having Green Smoothies every morning for nearly 2 months now. My diet is fairly healthy, fish or chicken with vegies for dinner, salads for lunch and toast for breakfast. I don't eat much refined sugars or carbs. The only thing I've cut out is dairy. I might look into this DIM thing, although I'm currently on 10g of B5 a day, so like ahmad89, I'm curious if adding DIM to the mix would be ok? I'm also curious as to how you people found out you had a hormone imbalance, or did you just start taking DIM?

I know people have been using the Naked juice in their smoothies but I don't know if anyone has tried just having the "Green Machine" drink by Naked. There's so many posts it's hard to read them all. It has, from what I can remember: Kiwi, apple, banana, mango, spinach, wheat grass, barley grass, broccoli, garlic ( :eh: ) and a few other things. It's supposed to be a really good drink to help detox the body. I tried it for the first time this Wednesday and I've been drinking one every day for lunch ever since. It's a good taste, and it's so much easier than mixing it up myself especially since I'm out and about a lot.

JacksonG,

Thank you for sharing your recipe with us, and so glad you're enjoying the smoothies! Keep it up! :)

Panda1,

I am so happy for you!!!!!!!! Yea!!!! Always love hearing such positive results from people. I think combining the smoothies with DIM was a great idea! I would think that after a while, you can cut back on the DIM and just do the smoothies (unless you eat lots of animal products) - if you do, just be sure to keep up your cruciferous veggies like spinach, kale, collards, bok choy, cabbage, etc. So glad you're doing so well! :)

ahmad89 and wanabeacnefree,

I don't take DIM, but I would think it would be fine to take with other supplements. I'd recommend checking out the thread under this board that's all about DIM. About hormone imbalances, if you have acne, you most likely have imbalanced hormones. If both of you are still struggling with acne after giving the smoothies a good try, I'd definitely recommend taking DIM for a few months and see you do.

embarr,

Sounds like a yummy drink! All those kinds of drinks are pasteurized though, so you're better off drinking fresh if you can. :)

hmmm, I didn't know they pasteurized their drinks. I checked out the website and they say that they "flash pasteurize" which isn't as bad as full out pasteurizing. This helps keep the nutrition and flavor intact.

At times when you don't have access to fresh greens, these types of drinks can be of some value, but I know from experience that they still don't compare to doing the fresh greens. It's a little extra effort to make a fresh smoothie, but it's so worth it. :)
