today i bought kale, baby spinach, collard greens, and 1200mg flaxseed oil. Today im going to make my chicken breast with extra virgin olive oil and make my strawberry, banana, and greens smoothie also with a pill of the flaxseed oil. I will update if anything improves within a month

I recently did some research on flax seeds and read that flax seed oil and flax seeds are not the same. There are benefits in the flax seeds that are not contained in the oil. I also read that to obtain these benefits, eating the seeds alone will not work. You need to grind them into a meal. I find flax seeds in the baking section near the barley and stuff or in the natural foods section.

thanks for that info, what about flaxseed powder?

Ahmad - for all the reasons everyone has listed above, the ground flaxseeds are going to be your best bet. 🙂

ok, i recently found out we have some pills that are a mix of flaxseed oil, fish oil, and something else that starts with Br in one liquid pill. Im going to start taking that instead

I wanted to post some info I looked up on dandelion greens. They are most tasty and tender in the early spring and many of us have them growing right in our yards! As long as you don't fertilize/use pesticide, it's safe to just pick them and rinse and add to your smoothie!

Dandelions are a great dietary source of calcium (100mg), beta carotene (1600mcg), vitamins A (2700IU) and K (150mg), plus the antioxidants lutein and zeaxanthin (3600mcg), which is important for healthy vision. Dandelions are natural diuretics and detoxifiers (the values are based on one cup of raw).

My Day 2 Smoothie:

cup of strawberry/banana soy yogurt (I'm vegan)

1 banana

handful of spinach

1/2 cup frozen strawberries

dozen blueberries

tbsp ground flax seeds

tbsp cocoa

1/2 cup rice milk

I loved it! My fiancA thought it was weird that it was both fruity and chocolate-y, but he's a picky food separator. He knew there was spinach in it but, of course, couldn't taste it. I thought it was luxurious.

It filled about a pint glass (2 cups), and I drank it all in the morning for breakfast.

Thanks for this post. And thanks to whoever mentioned cleaning the blender by blending soapy water. THANK YOU! I always hesitate to make smoothies, and would never do it daily, just because of how difficult it was for me to clean them. Now I can see myself making them everyday.

bluks,

So glad you've figured out something that works so well for you. 🙂 Since you say your acne is more on the severe side, I'm thinking 2 large handfuls of greens might be your ticket - and I think it would be fine to add some sweet fruit. Also, peaches aren't that sugary, but they add great flavor. The greens help to balance out the fruit sugar. If nothing else, you could experiment with adding in some sweet fruits and see how you like it - I want you to enjoy your smoothies. 🙂

Have you tried the blended salad recipe? Those are low in sugar and are delicious!! You really only need one apple and one lemon to offset the bitterness of the greens in those recipes - you can use a lot more greens in them. 🙂

im sorta weary of adding sweet fruits because of the candida issue. i have a weak immune system and have resorted to 6 months of antibiotics for acne a few years ago. im okay with the bad taste as long as it is healthy in the long run. nevertheless, once im sure my immune system is back on and the candida is somewhat controlled, ill add in all kinds of fruits ^^

thanks for the lemon tip! i haven check out the salad recipe though.. but ill definitely add lemon. a great alkaline fruit to add!

Lutya,

Thanks for the dandelion info! If anyone has access to them, I definitely think it's a great idea to add them to smoothies! Just be sure that they are free of pesticides, fertilizers, etc.

evet,

I'm happy to hear you're enjoying your smoothies so much! Like you, I used to think getting the blender out would be a big cleaning ordeal too, but it really is so easy just to rinse it out with water, or blend with soap and water (got that tip from Vita-Mix). I think where people run into trouble is by not rinsing right away. I never, never let left over smoothie sit in my blender! agh!! haha

bluks,

I hope you'll check out the blended salad recipe! Really think you'd like it - the magic ingredients for me are parsley, an apple or pear, and a lemon - and then whatever other greens/veggies I feel like adding in. Sooo good!

Can anyone tell me if there is any nutritional value in green leaf lettuce? Know which one I mean?

If this is what you are talking about, one cup has "high amounts of vitamins A (2600IU) and K (62mcg), plus the antioxidants beta carotene (1600mcg) and lutein (620mcg)."

i've been drinking my green smoothies and taking this 3 in 1 omega 3 pill 3 times a day with meals, and i havnt really noticed much on my skin but it does feel smoother and softer and usually by now new pimples would come up. It seems i should be seeing clearing skin within a month or so if i keep on this routine and i will. I want to put the max amount of fruits and greens so i can take in a lot of vitamins and minerals to speed up the process. Currently im just adding, strawberries, bananas, kale, baby spinach and collard greens but in order to keep the bitter taste of the greens down i have to add a few extra strawberries, more than your suppose to eat a day since strawberries have a lot of sugar or something like that. I have noticed that i lost some weight from drinking this smoothie daily with my meals. Could this be because i have all the vitamins and minerals my body needs and keeps my appetite to a minimum? Its not a lot of weight just maybe 5lbs or less but i have noticed i lost a little bit of fat. Im not overweight by the way, last time i checked i weighed 160lbs and im about 5' 10" give or take an inch

Ahmad,

I am so happy to hear that your skin is responding well to the smoothies!! I'll be so curious to know how you're doing in another month of so. :)

For covering up the greens taste - I'd recommend other fruits besides just bananas and strawberries. The first post talks more of this. Strawberries really don't conceal the greens flavor all that well.

As for losing weight, yes, the smoothies can definitely help with that, and you are right in guessing it's because of the added nutrition! When your body has the nutrition it needs, it stops craving food, which of course makes you eat less. For those that need to gain weight, the smoothies are great for that too.

quick update, my skin hasnt gotten better, infact its gotten a little worse but this could be because i need to shave again and the facial hair is holding onto dirt, im going to shave today and that should take off the dead skin and dirt revealing a better and healthier looking skin. I havnt used BP for awhile, i've just used salycilic acid 2% from neutragena called rapid clear, says clearer skin in 8hrs but doesnt seem like it works very well. Should i go back to BP?

Week 6 of green smoothies. My skin has been a bit better than week 5. No more breakouts since that awful week 4 that I attributed to the weather, but it's been consistent lately and my face seems to have adjusted to it and calmed down once again. I started DIM last Friday to try to speed up healing and address some hormonal stuff that I've been suspecting and that's looking promising from just 3 days use, but I'm going to keep on with the smoothies since they've helped SO much with keeping breakouts away, but a bit slow to help with healing. Ideally, if DIM helped to speed up healing I would take it until clear (which doesn't seem that far away, I've just been a bit impatient lately because I want to confidently start looking for work in the coming weeks), and just keep drinking my smoothies to keep future breakouts away 😀 I'll keep the weekly updates coming.

whats DIM?

whats DIM?

You can read about it here:

http://www.acne.org/messageboard/DIM-Clear...ek-t187299.html

It's a supplement for estrogen metabolism. Don't let the "Clears Acne In 1 Week" fool you. Some people have had success with it, some have had negative results from it. The ones that haven't had success with it most likely didn't have an estrogen problem to begin with. I'm taking it because I have reason to believe I have estrogen dominance.

isnt estrogen for females? im male lol i was thinking of going to a dermatologist soon and finding once for all if my acne is hormonal or something

EDIT: i read about B-5 and decided to try that out

Has anyone noticed their redmarks fade drastically after a couple months? I noticed mine have gone down a great deal.

I can't say exactly but it's been at least 3 months. My rosacea made it very noticeable but I've noticed both a reduction in redmarks as well as flushing from rosacea. I let my friends take pictures of me now since my skin has been doing very well after all this time with the diet change.

I'm thinking it's the large amount of chlorophyll that cleans the inside so well and helps balance everything.

today i went to GNC and bought some pantothenic Acid 500, B5, the guy knew why i was buying it and gave me a few tips to help my acne, he said i should take B5 along with a natural multi-vitamin to help absorb it better. Now what i want to know is how much do i take

I wouldn't listen to anyone who gives acne advice in public. It's likely they don't know what they're talking about. lol! Don't overdose B5 because I heard someone who used to be a member here say it gave them health problems. I don't know what kind though.

Ahmad,

I'd continue with the bp if you're still having breakouts. You might check the reviews at www.paulabegoun.com and see if your salicylic acid is mentioned and whether or not it's well formulated. She makes a great 2% salicylic acid.

Sounds like that man gave you good advice about staying away from animal products. I hear it's best to stay away from synthetic b vitamins too, as they can be damaging. How about getting your b5 from food sources? You could add collards, broccoli and sunflower seeds to your smoothies. :) Food sources: http://whfoods.org/genpage.php?tname=nutri...=87#foodsources

Panda,

So glad you're doing better, and I think taking DIM to speed things up is a great idea. Thanks for your update! :)

Matheus

On occasional when I do get a blemish, my red marks can still take a while to fade - I really didn't notice a difference in speed of healing, though several people have posted that they have - I'm glad you have too! :)
