I've been doing green smoothies for a few weeks now and I don't see much change in my skin if any. However, I feel great and love the convenience for getting in all those nutrients. Its about three weeks now, so if anything changes I'll post it.
My skin doesn't seem to have gotten better either, however like you, I'm enjoying the benefits of a healthy drink everyday!
im having trouble decided what greens to add to my smoothies. Which greens have the most nutritional value for acne? Im going to also add flaxseed oil when i get the chance to buy it. I notice i havnt had any success with my strawberry banana smoothies but thats cause i didnt add any greens lol, but i did feel a lot better and more refreshed. SO if yall could please tell me which greens are best for acne and how much to put in to notice good results quickly, i would greatly appreciate it.
bluks,
Glad you are seeing such positive results with the smoothies, and thanks for posting your results!
pigsweeper, and wanabeacnefree,
I'm glad you two want to continue the smoothies regardless of getting results with your skin. I'm wondering if maybe you're not yet seeing results due to your diet? Perhaps a more plant-based diet (discussed in the first post) might help? Also, you both are still pretty new at this, so it could possibly take another couple months before you begin seeing results - definitely hang in there!
ahmad89,
My first post (on page one) lists several greens. For starting out, baby spinach, which you can find pre-washed in packages, is "great" to start out with!! It's very mild in flavor, is very high in nutrients, and is awesome for your skin. Add one or two large handfuls - two if your acne is severe. Blend it with an apple/pear/banana and some frozen mango/peaches/pineapple. You can then move on to other greens like spring mix, collards, kale, parsley, etc.
which one of those you listed is best for acne? or are they all equally great? Also which is best fish oil or flaxseed oil?
ps. my diet is eating skinless chicken breast with peas and green beans for lunch everyday and for dinner whatever my mom makes. If its not healthy to my liking then i will make the chicken breast meal again. I stay away from all processed, junk, etc. Only homemade meals and i only drink water or juices

They are all great, but again, I would start with spinach. Kale is even better, but de-stem it first. It's good to use a variety of greens, as talked about in my first post.
Both fish and flax oil have good uses - it depends on what your needs are. The main thing with the smoothies is the blended greens - you can throw in a tbs of ground flaxseed's though if you want, as I mentioned in the first post.
I also mention in my first post diet recommendations - sounds like your diet is okay, but it would be helpful to cut back on animal products if you can. Also, try to eat a bigger variety of vegetables. I also would recommend eliminating any fruit juices.

You are welcome for the help. 🙂 That sounds good, and if you can find ground flaxseed, I'd opt for that rather than the processed oil, so that you get the other benefits of the seed. It's much cheaper that way too!

on the bottle it said it was all natural, they just extracted the oil from the seeds or whatever and put it in a bottle so im assuming its all natural flaxseed oil

If you already have the flaxseed oil, it's fine to go ahead and use it. However, when you run out, I recommend ground flaxseeds. 🙂

The reason that the seeds are more beneficial than the oil is that they have lots of fiber from the husks and also lignans which help balance hormones. I ground up 1-2 tbs in a coffee grinder and add it to my smoothies everyday but you can also get it preground.
Sorry for double posting but I just wanted to say that I've been drinking the smoothies for a few weeks now and haven't seen any change in my skin yet although I'm REALLY enjoying them.
My typical smoothie is one granny smith apple, a few baby carrots, a few frozen strawberries, handful of baby spinach and 1-2 tbs ground flaxseeds. When I have it, I use some brewed iced green tea instead of water as the base.
I have some dandelion greens that I feed to my bearded dragon, so I've added a bit of those in too. Anyone know how good they are for us? I know they are one of the best for my beardie but I don't know how they are for people. Here is the nutrition chart for bearded dragons (good info!):
Lutya,
Thanks for posting the flaxseed info.
You might try adding more greens to your smoothies (2 handfuls instead of one) and varying up the greens a little. Are you trying to cute down on acne contributing foods as well? (listed in the first post)
I don't know much about dandelion greens, but how cute that your bearded dragon enjoys them.

i couldnt find flaxseeds at walmart, they just had it in liquid pill form and the oil
i couldnt find flaxseeds at walmart, they just had it in liquid pill form and the oilYou'll need to go to health food store - or maybe the health section in a grocery store. 🙂
i went to the pharmacy section where all the vitamin pills and all that were, they have the flaxseed oil in both liquid and form next to each other, it would make sense they would have the seeds there if they had it
the type of green smoothie i take isnt exactly pleasant in taste.
it consist of 1+ realli huge handful of greens and 1 apple and 125ml of blue berry 100% pure juice and 125ml water. ps: without the blue berry the smoothie taste somewhat unpalatable (bitter). spinach isnt that bad though. the resultant is approx 650ml of green smoothie.
all of which doesnt lead to a sudden surge in insulin. it works wonder for reducing inflammation. some of you might want to try this out, although it might not taste as good as those with banana, strawberries or other sweet fruits.
probably a higher proportion of greens would work better in improving your skin conditions. however it also depends on your skin condition. if it's very mild, like 2-4 pimples, probably wouldnt see much change because it started off very little!
good luck to all ^^
today i bought kale, baby spinach, collard greens, and 1200mg flaxseed oil. Today im going to make my chicken breast with extra virgin olive oil and make my strawberry, banana, and greens smoothie also with a pill of the flaxseed oil. I will update if anything improves within a month
ahmad89,
You wont find flaxseeds in the pharmacy area - you'll need to look in the area of your store that sells healthy food. The easiest thing is just to call a couple stores/health stores and ask if they have it.
You got some great greens! Hope your smoothie turns out well!
bluks,
So glad you've figured out something that works so well for you. Since you say your acne is more on the severe side, I'm thinking 2 large handfuls of greens might be your ticket - and I think it would be fine to add some sweet fruit. Also, peaches aren't that sugary, but they add great flavor. The greens help to balance out the fruit sugar. If nothing else, you could experiment with adding in some sweet fruits and see how you like it - I want you to enjoy your smoothies.
Have you tried the blended salad recipe? Those are low in sugar and are delicious!! You really only need one apple and one lemon to offset the bitterness of the greens in those recipes - you can use a lot more greens in them.

LOL! Do you feel like you're drinking a drink from Ghostbusters? haha 🙂 Sounds like your smoothie turned out well - glad to hear it! 🙂

I recently did some research on flax seeds and read that flax seed oil and flax seeds are not the same. There are benefits in the flax seeds that are not contained in the oil. I also read that to obtain these benefits, eating the seeds alone will not work. You need to grind them into a meal. I find flax seeds in the baking section near the barley and stuff or in the natural foods section.

Ahmad - for all the reasons everyone has listed above, the ground flaxseeds are going to be your best bet. 🙂
