I have been doing a green smoothie with no fruit except avacado in it, and a bit of stevia, and its working wonders for me. I put in some bok choy, celery, leek, and cucumber, with some aloe vera gel, and half a avacado, a bit of ACV and a dash of stevia. While its not the best tasting drink in the world, it is quite nice, and it makes me feel fabulous afterwards.

Wow!! That's an awesome smoothie!!! If you're wanting to improve the taste, I bet a lemon blended in would taste great and one apple or pear would go a long way too for adding sweetness! So great that you have a drink that makes you feel so great afterwards! Thanks for sharing! 🙂

So I got fruits, vegetables, AND the blender. Go me!! (I even had a dream about green smoothies last night, lol.) I tried making one today. I just grabbed a bunch of green stuff and threw that in as well as a few slices of apples, a whole kiwi, a few frozen berries, some milk, and plain yogurt. At first it turned a nice green, then a purple-pink berry color--and I was like, "YAY!"--then it turned brown to my dismay. It looked gross and tasted so-so.

How do you get green smoothies to stay... green? I think I'll just ditch the fruits and make separate vegetable smoothies and fruit smoothies from now on...

Too funny about your green smoothie dream! haha I'm sure I've had plenty of those!

I wouldn't give up on the greens/fruit combo just yet - you've only just begun to experiment! I'd try a little more "sweet" fruits like the ones listed on the first page. Might taste better without the yogurt too.

When you add berries, it can make the smoothie go a little brown after a while. I don't recall this ever happening quickly though, or maybe I just haven't paid attention! When I do berries, I add cocoa powder, so as of late, mine always look brown anyway! haha If you don't use the berries, you will get a "green" smoothie.

Just doing veggie smoothies are great as well!! Be sure to add at least one apple though and one lemon, otherwise, they may taste a little plain or a little bitter.

Just keep experimenting! It took me a while to figure out what I liked. I actually got really discouraged the first week and upset because I didn't' think the smoothies would work for me... because I couldn't get mine to taste right, and I had a hard time drinking them (mine were a little thick too in the beginning, and a drink that doesn't taste good and that takes a while to drink, because it's so thick isn't so great!! haha)!! It wasn't until I started adding frozen fruits and more water (to thin them out) that I began coming up with combinations I liked. SOOO glad I hung in there and toughed out the experimental part!! 🙂

has anyone tried adding flax meal to their smoothies? I basically stick a little in everything I can and don't really mind the texture or the taste(since it isn't noticeable). So any experience with this variation?

I add 1 tbs ground flaxseeds to mine. Carefull with the flax meal, because with ground flaxseeds, you're not supposed to have more than around 3-4 tbs a day, so I would imagine the same holds true for flaxmeal. Have you tried ground flaxseeds? They are supposed to be better, because you are getting the whole seed that way.

These green smoothies actually work. Today I don't feel tired at all... which is weird 'cause I usually do... like I'm being weighted down by sleepiness or something. But now that weight's gone and I feel liberated! I tried it with just the greens, 3/4 of a lemon, a cup of water, and a whole kiwi and it actually turned out pretty nice. Almost like green lemonade... I think I can commit to drinking green smoothies now without the urge to vomit. ;) I went and told everyone about them today 'cause I was so excited, lol. "Did you know that green smoothies can do such and such for you?!" "OMG, really?! I have got to try that now!!" Pretty soon, green smoothies will take over the world and it'd be as normal as morning coffee... it might even replace that!

since I'm in college it's somewhat hard for me to make things like this. So I was wondering if you guys thought that things like green powder or wheat grass could be a substitute to doing this?

Here's a link for a type of green powder: green powder

and then wheat grass is pretty self-explanatory

Dried greens just don't have the same positive benefits as fresh greens. They would be better than doing nothing, but if you really want to see great benefits, you'll most likely need to do the fresh.

What about being in college makes this difficult for you? Maybe we can help. :)

Heres my recipe for a delicious smoothy:

1/2 cup of frozen mixed berries or frozen mango

1-2 handfulls of baby spinach and/or lettuce

half of a large bananna or a whole small bananna

half of an apple

1/4 of an organic lemon

half of an avacado

1/2 cup of OJ

a splash of olive oil

dab of honey

some cinnamon

It is so good and i can see improvemnt in my skin.

well, i'm in college in a dorm room. Meaning that a blender + the fruits + vegetables would be somewhat hard to keep sitting around. And I don't have a personal kitchen and stuff so it would be slightly difficult.

I might try the powder stuff out to see how it works and then maybe this summer when this recipe is possible i can try it out.

I have a question! I was in the grocery store today and saw a green bottled vegetable drink. I've been trying to upload pics but I keep failing (so annoying!) ... any way, it's 100% vegetable juice and has what looks like about 18 green vegetables (including spinach and parsley) as well as tomatoes, lemons and carrots. Would this suffice as a green smoothie? Fresh fruit and veg is very expensive in Japan and a suitable blender might be a bit out of my price range right now ... not to mention, the walls in my building are paper thin and I'd hate to annoy my neighbors even more than I do now by singing along to my Ipod ...

why can't I upload pics? Sigh.

So I haven't used these long enough for them to do anything for my skin, but I started replacing my morning coffee with one of these smoothies instead and I feel so great. :surprised: I also discovered adding a few Clementine oranges(they are in season) makes the smoothie taste like a delicious treat. I can't even taste the spinach at all. So far I have added flax meal, baby spinach, mixed frozen berries(raspberries, strawberries, blueberries, blackberries), apple and Clementine together. I am going to try the salad kind this afternoon. Yayy.

hadituptohere, why don't you just post all the ingredients that are in the bottle(if it names them)? It sounds healthy,as long as it doesn't have anything artificial added to it.

Okay, lemme see ... (reading the Japanese) ... Jew's mallow, spinach, carrot, celery, green beans, green peas, green pepper, asparagus, white cabbage (I think), angelica keiskei (from the parsley family), kale, baby spinach, brussel sprouts, squash, broccoli, parsley, watercress, cabbage, radishes, honeywort, lemon, grapefruit, green grapes and apples. I think there are probably some preservatives in there since it's bottled but the bottle does say "100% juice" ...

it does sound pretty spiffy! Tastes great, too, if somewhat thin ... my boyfriend says he doesn't trust the "100% juice" claim because it tastes so liquidy to him ...

what do you all think?

Hmmm... well, if you really wanted to, I suppose you could get a miniature fridge? It would be challenging to do, but if it were me, I'd find a way to make it work, cause I have to have my smoothies! hehe 🙂 However, if this sounds like too much to deal with, then I'd just try the green powder and see if you notice an improvement. Hope it works out for you! If not though, definitely give the smoothies a try this summer! 🙂

From what you listed below, it sounds like a great drink. However, I wouldn't at all expect it to give you the same results, due to the fact that this drink is pastuerized and not fresh. 🙁 Always worth a try though! You could try it for 6 weeks and see how you do. If not though, I'd definitely consider the investment in the green smoothies - you'll be investing in your health as well as your skin. 🙂

P.S. So cute that you sing to your iPod! hehe 🙂 Also, when I blend my smoothies, I blend for one minute or less, so it shouldn't be too annoying to your neighbors. 🙂

what do you all think?

Anything that is bottled like that on a store shelf is most likely pasturized, as a previous poster noted. Pasturizing kills all the good stuff that occurs naturally in these foods which is why the fresh green smoothies are loaded w/ "miracle" miracle goodies! IMHO, I'd say don't buy that garbage, save your money and put it towards buying the fresh foods and a blender cuz I don't think any pasturized dead drink actually nourishes a living body. Try to buy organic whenever possible. 🙂 Enjoy!

My mom puts cabbage in her smoothies all the time. But then again... she mixes all kinds of things together in her smoothies! hahahahaha She'll just throw in fruits, several different veggies, onions and garlic, and surprisingly, they actually taste pretty good! haha

If you're going to do cabbage though, think I'd stick to the veggie based smoothie recipe on the first page of this post - add in some other veggies like cucumber, parsley, and spinach, and be sure to add at least one apple or pear and a lemon. Good luck! 🙂

Hey there, i've started to clear up my diet and I've been taking these for about a week and they seem to really work. Last year I had some success with green smoothies, I'm pretty sure any way but because I was travelling it was hard to continue what I was doing.

Now that I'm back on them I feel much better and I think they are helping as well as a pretty good diet. Mine usually consist of a handful of spinach, handful of romaine lettuce, 2 kiwis, 1 banana, maybe an apple. Usually makes 3 - 4 cups.. Its pretty think lol I don't like much water. They taste alright too.

Hopefully if I get clear, I will report back. I think these are a key factor :D

I can never get anything but spinach or rocket or green cabbage in my local veg shop. Does it matter if I use spinach every day or should I be looking to vary this?

Thanks

Wow I just made a great smoothie from

handful of spinach

1 banana

1 medjool date

half carton blueberries

pint of water

1 tablespoon spirulina

1 tablespoon flaxseed oil

I mixed the last two in cos i hate the taste of them both. It was so nice and yummy, tasted just like my fave which is banana and medjool date smoothie.

What other greens should i be adding and is this too many sweet things?
