I have been making my green smoothies recently with a combination of parsley, kale and spinach, pineapple and apricots. Something I have begun to do is add liquid chlorophyll (which tastes like peppermint) plus some powdered Vitamin C (orange flavoured), and some powdered zinc. Seems to be working a charm, and my family adores the taste.
these green smoothies are simply the MUTS NUTZ.. Feel so good though as well
hehe, glad you're liking them. 🙂

That's great! Sounds like a yummy smoothie combination! 🙂
I made a really random one last night... 10oz spinach, collard greens, apple, package of acerola cherry frozen concentrate (very high in vitamin C), 1/4 grape fruit, 1/4 lemon, and stevia, in a base of soy milk. Needless to say it tasted... different. Well I guess it's good to change it up once in a while but I don't think I'll be going back, tropical fruits get my vote as best for smoothies (and spinach is definitely my favorite green).

Tropical fruits and spinach are my favorites too. R.S., do you end up drinking all 10oz of spinach in one day?

In about 15 minutes. If I could I would drink even more... It gets expensive when you use a lot of greens! I wouldn't mind progressing to a full pound of greens in one setting...

Wow, I've got to hand it to you R.S., you are an inspiration. You do a LOT more greens than I do. I agree, it gets expensive, but I'm thinking it's probably worth it! You've got me into taking oil with my smoothies, and now you're making me want to eat more greens as well! Thanks R.S.! We are really lucky to have you on these boards. Not only are you helpful in answering people's posts, but to go along with that, you're also a wealth of information. 🙂
This is such a brilliant idea. I don't know if it has helped my skin really, but I just like that I'm getting green veggies regularly now, whereas I almost never ate them before. Plus... I don't know if this is related... but I've always gotten terrible menstrual cramps every month, but since I started drinking these, I hardly get any cramps anymore! I can't think of anything else I've been doing differently. The green leafy vegetables do have a lot of calcium and magnesium I think, which are supposed to help cramps.

Leah, that is wonderful news! I'm so glad to hear that, and I hope the smoothies will start helping your skin soon too! You might want to try adding more greens and see if that makes a difference. 🙂
Thanks so much for the green smoothie idea. I have just bought a juicer and i am going to start drinking these smoothies everyday. I will check back and keep you all updated on how i get on. So far i have only tried adding lettuce, but i read this is not the best? Is spinach better? Will lettuce still give skin benefits though? Here's hoping this helps my acne!

Glad to have you join us! Lettuce is just fine as long as it's a dark green lettuce. Stay away from iceberg, as it is virtually void of nutrition. I like baby spring mix lettuce and baby romaine lettuce. Baby spinach is great too - just be sure you are getting a variety! If you get braver, you can try other greens like kale, collards, etc. I hope the smoothies work out for you - would love to know your results! Let me know if you have more questions! 🙂
Thanks for the tips 😀Right now I have about 6 or so spots...
~ I will definitely be coming back here regularly to keep you updated.
~ I want to try kale but I can't seem to find any anywhere!
~yum yum the smoothies are so delicious!
No problem Jenna! Since you only have 6 spots, I'm very hopeful that the smoothies can really help you! I drank about 6-8 cups of smoothie a day my first month on them (2 handfuls of greens per day), and it was a little over a month before I realized that I suddenly wasn't getting any new bumps on a regular basis. Looking forward to hearing more from you! 🙂
Another query lol...can I put oranges into my smoothie maker with their skins on? Or is it best to peel? This might sound crazy but im on day 2 of green smoothies and the spots i have have started to come to heads and already seem less angry. I was thinking, maybe eating chocolate and drinking fizzy drinks etc might not necessarily cause acne, but maybe not getting enough greens could! I now realise how few greens i actually ate before!

I agree that a little chocolate here and there isn't so bad as long as you're getting your greens in! 🙂 I would take off the outer skin of the oranges, but you could leave the white pulp if you wanted to. 🙂
Ive been eating salads full of leafy greens for months and had no effect on my skin. Will i get more of an effect if i have it in smoothie form?
Yes, the first post explains how when you blend the leafy greens, it breaks down the cell walls much more thoroughly than when we chew and releases more nutritients - 4 times as much! Plus, with the smoothie, you're getting fruit and lots of fiber as well, which I believe is also very important.
Hello,
I have gone through all 29 pages of this forum (whew!). I want to thank Independent Thinking for introducing us to the smoothies. I started drinking them 3 days ago. My problem is this. Everytime I drink the smoothie within an hour my face gets red and hot. The allergic reaction usually lasts about 15 minutes. I have had the leafy green (romaine lettuce) and fruits many times separately with no problem but for some reason when I blend them together my body has a reaction. Any suggestions as to why this happens????
Thanks in advance.
**Just want to add that I only use fruits (frozen and regular), romaine lettuce and water to make my smoothies.
About the 4 times the nutrient fact, are you sure it's so nutritious because the cell walls are broken down, NOT because you CONSUME more in liquid form than in solid form (higher density)?
I just made one, it tasted bad. Bananas have too strong a flavor. Should the viscosity be like normal juice? Because mine was thick which was gross.
Can someone post some recipes? I'm really clueless, and my drinks turn out very bad.

Wow, good for you for doing all that reading! And, you are very welcome! 🙂 I have never heard of the reaction you're having, and I'm really confused by it! It sounds like the reaction you'd get from a niacin flush, but fruit and greens don't have all that much niacin that I know of. Since you're getting more nutrition with the blended fruits/greens, maybe your body just isn't used to that. I wish I knew what to tell you!
Anyone else care to comment?

Dr. Joel Fuhrman (talked about on the first post) confirms that you get about 4 times the amount of nutrition.
Check out the basic recipe on the first post, experiment with different fruits, and add enough water so that the consistency isn't too thick.
Just wanted to provide everyone with a quick update. Well its been about 10 or 11 days on the green smoothies and I think im getting the hang of the recipes. I think the key to making these taste ok is to put at least one banana and a few cubes of ice. I like the taste of bananas and I think if i dont put these in it becomes tasteless. The ice is good cos i think its a lot easier to drink when chilled.
Anyway, Im not quite sure it has helped a great deal because its only been a short time, but im willing to stick to this for a couple of months. I have 6-8 cups of this stuff a day, so I blend twice a day once in the morning on an empty stomach and once after work.
Oh and btw and i am still roughly doing Dan's regimen. Im really hoping this can ween me off using BP altogether. . . i m still skeptical and i aint holding my breath cos i have been constantly disappointed in the past with so many failed regimens i have tried on this board, . . . but fingers crossed anyway.

Pandaboy, I'm really glad you're giving this a sincere effort, and I really do hope you see the results you're hoping for. Have you tried other sweet fruits like apples, pears, pineapple, mangoes, peaches, etc? I love bananas too, but I think a variety is important, and there are so many other tasty fruits. Have you tried frozen sweet fruits like pinepple, mango or peaches? You may find that using those allows you to not have to rely on solely bananas for flavor. I love frozen fruit, as it chills the smoothies without watering down the taste. When I tried ice in the past, it made my smoothies taste very watered down.
It's great that you're doing 6-8 cups a day!! How many handfuls of greens are you doing a day, and are they large handfuls?
