Oh good. 🙂 I really hope you'll start seeing results. I love spinach and bananas in mine. Have you tried adding in other fruits and greens as well? Frozen pineapple is awesome, as is frozen mango, peaches and tropical fruit mix. I love using apples, pears and also baby spring mix. 🙂

Do the smoothies really fill you guys up?

I've found they've increased my appetite if anything. I usually make a green smoothie with an apple, frozen berries, and 2 large handfuls of baby spinach and 32 grams of protein powder. I usually eat 5 more meals throughout the rest of the day, 4 of them including another 30 grams of protein or so.

I've been making these for snacks especially at night, when I could eat a horse but don't want the calorie load....I find them fairly filling as a snack....I finally feel like I'm getting my friuts and some greens for the day!

I know!!! They are quite good :). I actually prefer them to my late-night junk food, so that's been a pleasant surprise.

Hmm, they increased my appetite the first night but that was because I had barely eaten anything the whole day, so of course I was still hungry afterwards!

Just pair the smoothies up with something you normally eat. For breakfast, I had a smoothie and some sourdough toast with egg and tomato. It was delish and plenty filling.

Just add more to it. I see you are already adding protein powder which is good. You can also add some olive oil for fat and calories. Here is what I usually eat/drink every morning:

2 apples/pears

7-9 handfuls of mixed greens (spinach, kale, romaine, chard, collard)

60 grams of egg white protein powder

1 tblsp of olive oil

1-2 raw egg yolks (high omega 3)

I've started making the green smoothies too. Trying to start out slowly with the greens, they creep me out a little bit ;) haha. Has anyone noticed that from drinking them they make you feel like you're in a really good mood? I just had a glass with breakfast and i already feel so great. What sort of time-frame did people experience before they started noticing improvements in their skin? Its just my 2nd day. I haven't seen anything yet.

hehe, I'm glad you're starting out slowly with the greens. The baby greens, like baby spinach and baby spring mix have the mildest flavors, and they also have the most nutrition, so you win both ways. Greens definitely make people happier! They are very calming, and many have gotten over depression just by adding green smoothies to their diets. It took me about a month before I noticed I was no longer breaking out, but some see results in as little as 2 weeks. Give them at least 6 weeks. You can find out more about the smoothies by doing a "green smoothie" google search, or go to www.rawfamily.com. The book, Green for Life, is all about the smoothies. 🙂

Glad you want to try them! 🙂 You can add yogurt if you want. Several people are doing that. The main thing is that you're getting your fruits and leafy greens from the smoothies. 🙂

Im about 3 days into my Green Smoothie diet (I have about 6 cups a day) and I had a pretty long arguement with my sister about whether I was destroying all the fibre in the fruit by blending it. I kept saying that I was still having all the benefits of having the fibre in fruit because I am not discarding anything and eating it all, . . . . I'm just blending it! But she kept saying that by blending my fruit I am losing all the fibre in it!! Has anyone done any research on this?? Can I tell her she's wrong and that I am still getting all the fibre??!

Also sorry to be gross but I have noticed my elimination is pretty much green. Will this change over time and anyone else experience this?

Thanks.

Click here for some links that discuss the fiber content in the smoothies: http://www.google.com/search?sourceid=navc...othies%22+fiber . I think your sister is confusing blending with juicing. When you juice fruits, the fiber gets removed so that you are left with juice. When you blend, nothing is being removed, just broken down, which makes it easier on your body to digest, and you end up getting about 4 times the amount of nutrition, because the cell walls are broken down more thoroughly than chewing alone. When you buy fiber in the store, like pysllium, it's all broken down as well into powder form - and it still works as fiber should, so I don't know why your sister thinks that breaking fiber down will cause it to no longer act as fiber. Oh well - it's nice that she's concerned about you getting the best nutrition from your food. 🙂 As for your elimination, that may or may not change over time, but it doesn't sound like anything to worry about to me.

Also in some sense, blending it is like advanced chewing lol. When you eat those raw foods it still turns into a pulp so i would imagine there is fibre still there too..

www.trueprotein.com

highest quality protein you can get and the cheapest. The egg white protein run about 7-9 bucks a pound which is a steal since many store bought egg proteins can cost 10-12 dollars a pound. Also, it is totally customizable so you select whatever flavor and whatever sweeteners you want. Personally, I just get it plain and add it to the smoothies. If I take a shake for post workout, I just add a ,little honey for flavor. I have only bought the plain so I don't know how good/bad the flavors are.

Thanks for that I.T.

So I went to the organic wholefood supermarket today and finally managed to get hold of some kale (i've only been using spinach so far). But all the bunches I could find had all these insect bites on the leaves. So that made me a little worried about eating this raw with some of the insect bateria that may come with it, but I'll make sure I give it an extra wash.

I wanted to ask you I.T. . . . I don't quite understand your thinking on the toxins in leafy greens. You keep mentioning to eat a variety of leafy greens, since all leafy greens contain some level of toxins . . . but how does eating a variety of toxins make it better? Obviously eating a variety is always good for stimulating other things but I don't quite understand the health benefits "toxins-wise". So far I've only been using baby spinach.

Sure! About the toxins, if you want to research this on your own, I am repeated things I have heard from the creator or green smoothies, Victoria Boutenko. The website, www.whfoods.com, talks about it as well. These toxins are referred to as alkaloids, and different plants have different types of alkaloids. For example, spinach has oxalates. It makes sense that the body could handle a small amount of different types of toxins (which are not beneficial), so that's why it's a good idea to rotate the greens, as Victoria says below. Don't stress over this, but just don't eat the same leafy green every single day, otherwise, too much of one particular toxin could build up. I hope this makes sense.

"...plants accumulate a lot ofhighly nutritious elements in their leaves, but mix these nourishing ingredientswith either bitterness or very small amounts of alkaloids (poisons). That is how animals are forced to rotate their menu and that is why all wild animals are browsers. They eat a small amount of one thing, then move on to many other plants during the course of the day. The body is capable of easily detoxifying small amounts of a great many things, but it is much more difficult for the human system to get rid of a large amount of one type of poison. This is why it is crucial for us to learn to rotate the greens in our diet. Chimpanzees also rotate the green plants they eat. They go through approximately 117 different plants in one year.2We humans need to learn to alternate our variety of greens as much as possible instead of eating only iceberg lettuce, spinach and romaine ( http://72.14.203.104/search?q=cache:wxSgta...t=clnk&cd=2 ).

OMG, Thanks for that link!

I have always been buying 10lbs of ON whey at $90 Canadian.

Just ordered 50lbs of True protein WPC at $245 Canadian.

You just saved me around $200 dollars.

Same amount of protein per scoop as ON whey too.

So, we have to rotate our daily greens? If we use a greens mix, do we need to switch around with that too? If so, i was completely unaware of this.

I think if you're using a "mixed" greens package, that should be okay, because you won't be getting high concentrations of one particular alkaloid. I mainly use mixed greens, spinach and baby romaine. I wish I understood more in depth about the alkaloids - what I basically know is that you need a variety of greens, and even without knowing about the alkaloids, it just makes sense to use a variety anyway, just like with all other foods. The key is balance. I was shocked when I heard about lows doses of toxins in veggies!!! 😯

Who has become clear from this?

There have been quite a few positive testimonies... but I doubt you want to scroll through all the posts, haha. Actually, if you go back about 3 weeks or so, we got several testimonies all at once around that time. I think a lot of people see the thread, start doing the smoothies, and then never re-visit or post. The best way to find out is to try it yourself. If you're acne isn't too severe, you should see some beneficial results. 🙂
