Meanest thing that someone has said about your acne

Okay, so I stood under the long, cold, cylindrical, dirty-sterile light of my mom's filthy kitchen. Mom leaned in close adjusting her glasses like she was using a microscope. My little sister craned her long little neck from behind her, like a meerkat searching the horizon for predators. Mom said 'your skin has definitely improved...'There's only a few pimples here and there' pointing here and there with her leathery evil finger, like my face was a geography map. Sister interrupted her and said 'yehh, its mostly just...red'. Play me out Rolling Stones, Paint It, Black!

Also my young nephew once asked me 'what's wrong with your face?' and 'lets see how many spots we can count on Goldmunds chin!'.

Was always worried about being teased but having had acne for so many years now I realise these fears were unjustified. However I will still feel my confidence knocked back by a flippant comment, even if it's from my family, rotten lot they are(not really I love em).

6th grade some black kid was like "aye for your birthday, I'll get you proactiv". Next door neighbour who was older than me was like "you know when you go to highschool, everyone will bag you? They're gonna be like "hey, can you give me some oil because I'm all out for cooking?".

8th grade - My name is Rocky so people made up nicknames for me and called me Rocky Rockface or Mountainface. Sometimes even Rocky road :(

9th grade "whats that on your nose?", "why is your nose like that?

10th grade (this year, on accutane). I accidentally applied some shitty cream and now my face is fucked up. Lets see how the year goes..

10th grade: "eww...why don't you wash your face?"

Ughhhh.....pure rage. Especially bc this girl would come to school every day with her hair not brushed, no make-up, in sweats. Being a 15 year old girl, I simply responded with, "Eww...why don't you brush your hair. Brushes really aren't that expensive."

im in 10th grade and i've gotten:

"wash your face!"

"pizza face" (this one is probably the least i care about)

"what the f**k happened to your face?"

"ever wanna get that crap checked out?"

seriously, people with clear skin dont understand wat its like to have a ton a pimples on your face. as if washing your face once will make them all go away at once. being a girl and having people say this stuff to you i think is worse because i have been told that i'll stay single if i dont treat it. as if poeple could understand that everyone tries to get rid of it. but i dont let that stuff get to me to much ;)

No one has ever been intentionally mean, but I hate when people try to "help". I'm on 6 prescription medicines for acne and people think that telling me to "get some clearasil" is all I need. "You should see a dermatologist"- yup already got one. "You should go on birth control"- yup already on it. I absolutely hate when people make comments about nutrition too..."if you'd just stop drinking pop" "If you wouldn't eat that snack". They don't mean to be rude but people are so ignorant!

"OMG What happened, your skin used to be soooo innocent!"

"You should REALLY try proactive for your pimples"

" Acne is supposed to go away after puberty, why do you still have it?"

Just off the top of my head. In my opinion all of these things could have been non offensive statements, it was more the tone and such. The good thing is my skin is clearing up now :]

The worst things I've ever heard about my acne have come from my mom. Everyone else I've come into contact with has been mature and polite about it. They don't ever talk about it. If I do talk about my acne with others its because I brought it up. Comments from my mom have been:

*looks at my face in disgust* "Ugh look at all your pimples. Why don't you do something about it?"

"You really have a lot today!"

"You should really get proactiv for your acne. Have you thought about that?"

Also whenever I would touch my face or pick at my face she would tell me to stop not because she was worried I was damaging my face but because it disgusted her to see me touching my pimples. Yeah, my mom is kinda mean :/

Yay I'm happy to hear your acne is clearing up! It irks me that everyone thinks Proactiv is some miracle that will make acne go away overnight. People if this is true don't you think EVERYONE's face would be clear??

Thanks! I definitely know what you're talking about. I won't doubt that it works for some people, but why would people not think that people with acne try to find solutions? Proactive is usually one of the first things people try. I felt really bad for taking pleasure the other day when I was on my college campus and ran into a not so nice alumni member from HS who made a lot of those comments about my acne, and she had a good amount of acne. I felt bad at the same time because I know how acne can make a person feel, but she was quite the insensitive jerk when she had perfect skin, so eh. :|

After taking off my makeup in front of my boyfriend...

"oh my god, look what the makeup has done to your face! IT LOOKS INFECTED!"

...then I told him that the makeup's purpose is to cover up my infected-looking face. :(

He's seen me without makeup plenty of times before, but I was having a particularly bad breakout at the time.

- My friends 6 year old son said "what are those red things on your face?"

- My ex gf and I had pics of us together and was looking at them and said that I look like I have chicken pox.

- Some guy at my work went up to me and told me randomly that he can help my face with a stupid home remedy.

Can't think of anything else now, not sure if I want to!

Well over the school holidays I've been on the regimen, and I thought that my acne was getting better.. but I go back to school and at lunchtime, when I'm hanging out with my friends, one of them stares at my face for a while, and then goes "you know there's such thing as cover up".

.. True, I don't use makeup but I don't want to accidentally make my acne worse by using it, you know?

You have a pimple.

A friggin pimple on nose, for fu*ks sake... *SIGH* (This was my best friend)

Hey, do you wear make-up?

Why is he so brown? (pigmentation)

I knew a guy like you, he looked like you, pimples all over, and...

Once you have sex it will go away.

A bee bit you? -No that doesnt look like bee bite. Haha. (my grandmas conversating)

Oh my god. You are such a wonderful boy, we must do something (another granma, implying my dad and aunt to see my face)

I was at my aunts flat, we had some ice cream and there were her relatives that I dont know good. They had a small daughter (age 4~5). When they were leaving, her mom told the daughter to give a good-bye kiss to everybody. So she kissed everybody, but not me. Mom asked- why dont you kiss him? -He has pimples. Awkward smiles and gutwrenching feeling for me.

We had a class and I answered some teachers question. Some girl from the girl-desk-row shouted: "yeah, maybe wash your hair". Idk who it was, there werent any good girls anyway, but I wish I knew.

Yeah I think the girls reaction/decision was correct (you dont want to do something ---> dont do it). I was probably mad at her mom for not seeing the outcome.

Edit: Thanks for opening my eyes.

When my skin was worse I had a couple little girls that were talking to me at school ask me what was on my face, I let that one slide, I mean they're kids! The only other time I can think of is a bloke I ran into at the pub who was really drunk, really big bloke too so I couldn't do much said that I should go buy a bottle of clearasil ( yea dickhead, clearasil will fix all my problems, why didn't I think of that ) ahh! I guess you can't blame people for being so ignorant. We base so much emphasis on looks nowdays.

You know what though, I'm on Roaccutane at the moment So i'm hoping for the best. But if there's one good thing that having a case of bad skin and acne has taught me it's to really just relax, people will make their comments, look straight at your skin, but you've got to rise above it and continue to live your life. I mean, I never judge a book by it's cover anymore, I always look into a persons eyes when I talk to them, not at their acne, their skin etc.. simply because I know how it feels.
