Meanest thing that someone has said about your acne

These hurt me the most:

- People walking by and stopping randomly, stare and then shout "Damn! You're so fucking ugly!", then they laugh and walk away.

- my Junior High "friends" continous plans to give me a makeover and especially the time when they decided to put makeup (mostly foundation) on me themselves and said "Wow, you look sooo much better now. You should ware makeup all the time."

- When my mum got really angry and upset with me when my skin was at its worst and she shouted all kinds of horrible things about it being totally my own fault (I picked on my skin quite alot), that I had ruined my skin permanently, that my skin would never become pretty again and that I looked like an ugly toad.

- When I went shopping for my graduation dress with my mum and she said to at least 10 different sales clerks "Oh, no. She can't wear that. The back is too opened. She has... *whisperig* body acne too."

Love you mum...

holy shit, the first one is actually ridiculously mean, why would someone do something like that?! Wow. you should have bitched them out

Kids are very observant and they are just trying to understand things. I really don't think they mean to hurt you with their words.

Once my niece (she was about 7yrs old at the time) said "why do you put all that stuff on your face? Is it for the bumps?" And I said "yeah, I want my skin to be beautiful and smooth like yours". So she says "Oh, OK. Well, I think it is getting better" and smiled at me. I was nervous about how that little conversation was going to turn out, but I guess she has more tact than some grown people do.

Actually noone has said any really mean about my skin condition, up until recently when I got a new job. My boss is an old guy and you know how old people gets. Whenever I come to work, he would always come toward me and says something along the line of "What happened to your face? Do you wash it everyday? you use cleanser? medication? etc.." I feel annoyed but politely reply "Yes, I do have cleanser at home and I use it everyday. And I've also tried every medication out there" Then he would say "Well, products from drug store aren't gonna work. Why don't you go to a derm and let them check it out?". I actually am not bothered with the conversation that we have because I know he's genuinely trying to help. What I hate about it is the fact that he talked so loud that every customers (along with my co-worker) in the store could hear him.

One time I got a bad breakout with these huge cysts on my cheek and my old grandma was like "Why your face is all flared up" And my mom said "It's acne" Then grandma replied "Nope, it couldn't be acne. These things are huge, it's probably from an infection or something" After saying that, she went to get salt water for me to put on these cysts as she thought it could help to reduce the swelling  ...Can't remember how well it worked though, probably not that great because I remember having those painful cysts for days...

I remember talking to my mum about this girl I liked, god knows why, I think she sensed it. Anyway, I was whining that I'm not good enough for her because of my face and my mum said, "nice girls won't care about your looks, they will like you for who you are." I know what she is getting at, but it just made me think that my own mother thinks I'm ugly. Sometimes the not so direct things are harsher.

Some kid at school also (who was a sort of friend, one that you just hang around with in the lesson because he's in the same class etc). He used to look at my face, then on his own face, poke and make like popping spot sounds on his face, trying to imitate all the big ones I currently had.

The worssst thing, was when I was in my first year of uni and I had flu. I went to the supermarket to buy some lemsip and I felt so bad, like I was gonna pass out, at the time my acne was really bad so I must of looked so bad. Basically, these two chavs girls walked past and one was like, "eugh he's covered in spots" and then squirted some of her water bottle on my face lol?? Like what the hell, I know it was bad, but it wasn't hurrendous. Jeez. I almost cried when I got back in my room (pathetic), but it affected me for the next month of social interactions with everyone, constantly thinking about how bad I look.

My mum says stuff like that too, but even without any sort of prompting from me! When my skin was at its worst she said stuff like "don't worry you'll find a nice boy who will love you for your personality". It hurts because it feels like shes saying "give up on your looks!".

My uncle is mentally retarded. He used to ask if I had the measles. My grandpop would tell him not to say that and explain to him which made me feel kinda shitty... Oh but the thing is, my skin wasnt even bad then!

My grandpop would tell me to put shaving cream on a pimple. i remember him mixing it up (powder kind with some water) and i would dot it on... and i would smell like shaving cream. LOL

My parents are the worst- they always say to me- you need to stop eating/drinking (insert whatever food here)... stop eating so much candy (which i DONT really but they seem to say it only if i do have candy or chocolate near my monthly)... Sometimes I hear- You're face is so bad. Or- What happened to your face?

Once when I went to Thailand at 14 years old... i use this tomato soap and whatever mild acne i had it cleared and stayed clear for almost 3 weeks. On the 4th week of coming home on the plane we met up with my moms friends and i had somehow broken out really badly. i remember them asking me Oh my god, what happened to your face?

My friend in school (a loooooong time ago) used to make fun of me really bad. Like- your forehead is so nasty. Ew look at all of those bumps... can you cover it somehow with your bangs? It was really mean but for some reason my forehead cleared and i rarely have a problem with it.

I cant wait to hear what will be said when i start basic training next spring... that should be fun coming from teenagers (remember im 28 now) with perfect skin... argh... i hope i dont lose my temper...

OMG, that's pretty screwed up. I mean, I thought I had it bad when perfect strangers would say things, but my parents? No way. If anything, they've been more than supportive of me through my battle for clear skin. I feel for you. :comfort:

OK, here's an instance: I was walking through the mall with a few close friends last winter and my face was REALLY bad at that time (cystic, flaring, etc). So, of course, I like to dress up when I go out, heels, dresses, pretty "stuff", and I felt pretty confident as I walked through the stores until...I noticed everyone STARING at me. First at my clothes, then at my face. A group of teenagers around my age caught a glimpse of me coming and as I got close enough to hear they said, "Great style, but too bad she's fugly." I felt like hiding away the rest of the night out of embarrassment...

Back in Middle School, when I had a huge cluster of pimples right between my eyebrows and forehead... some guy asked "Mind I help you scrape that disgusting sh*t off with my ruler?"

I wouldn't want to imagine the outcome of that if that happened...

My dad used to call my face a 'mirror' as it was so oily. I was also bullied in middle school because of my skin - I was the first student in my class to get pimples (5th/6th grade). But when I look at pics of myself from high school, I'm actually surprised I didn't get teased more about my oily skin.

And I remember some kid asking me why my skin is so oily. It was just a question, but it kind of stuck with me.

The one which bothers me more now are the people trying to be nice who say 'don't worry you'll grow out of it... how old are you anyway?' '25' '...!!!...' Ha ha, the bad skin makes me look so much younger I think people can be shocked when they find out how old I am. I have a baby face as it is, so that doesn't help. I still get asked things like 'so are you taking your A-levels this year?' by people, er nooo I did them 7 years ago!! It bothers me a lot because I already have low self esteem and often still feel like a hopeless teenager.

Other than those more subtle kinds of comments I haven't had any bad ones for a while, although when I see my mother she will stare at me and then just say 'you need to go back to the doctor, that looks terrible' which infuriates me because half the time she says it on a day where I'm feeling like my skin is getting better!

I guess the worst one I had though was probably some boy who just came up to me and said 'UGLY!' once- that really hurt, mostly because I was standing with a friend at the time and I was hugely embarrassed and didn't want to let on I was upset.

my sister has way worse skin than i do, but it doesn't really bother her (i'm jealous) and she's always chosen not to do much about it. it's always really red & inflammed. well, this kid i went to high school w/ a few years ago im'd me once out of the blue saying that i need to keep an eye on my sister because he saw her a few days ago and it looked like she had the symptoms of a person who does crack (or some other drug i don't remember). and i was like, HUH? and he was like yeah, a person who does this drug picks a lot at their face, gets rashes, and gets scabs and red marks. like he didn't realize she just had friggin acne. i told him he was a douche bag. i don't necessarily think he was saying this to be mean or anything, but wtf? i haven't spoken to this ignorant kid in years. he should mind his own business. people who don't have acne, or who don't have a loved one that does, DON'T UNDERSTAND how much it effects us! SCREW EM!

I can't think of many comments people. I have one friend that said something about three months back but it was funny so I laughed at it. We were playing pool and I forgot what I was, so I asked "Am I stripes?" to which he replied "Nope, you're spotted." I mockingly laughed at it since it was actually funny. *shrugs*

That same night towards the end a bunch of us were waiting for our buses and same friend looks at me and says, "Go like this" and he starts brushing the side of his face like he was dusting off a table. He thought that if I just brushed my face with my hands I'd clear off the acne. Riiiight, obviously he had done some extensive cutting-edge research and seems to believe that I'm one unhygienic bastard who just needs to brush his face once in a while.

Meh, but that's hardly a big deal anyway. A couple of other minor things here and there but I've never had it bad.

Luckily for me i didn't really break out until i turned 20 which was half a year ago, so i didn't have to put up with bad comments in public and high school. But while i was breaking out my mom would keep nagging about my acne and she kept saying why i got so many pimples when she only had 2-3 her entire life.

Anyways i wasn't really bothered too much from acne so i went out quite often and about a 3 weeks ago when i was eating with some friends one of my friend sitting in front of me goes, wow you have a lot of pimples, if i was you i would be really irritated. After he said that i felt like crap, and i pretty much didn't talk the rest of the night.

After that day i quickly went to see a derm and he put me on tetracycline for a month and a half and within 2 weeks my skin pretty much cleared up except for some blackheads and scars. I'm still taking the medication but hopefully i don't break out even when i stop sometime in September when school starts again.

I was on set being an extra in a movie because I thought it would be fun. I knew there would be bright lights and that there was a possibility that you would be able to see the acne in the movie, but I had the chance to do something I really wanted to do and I didn't let my acne hold me back. I was getting my hair and makeup done (kept wondering what the makeup artisit was thinking) I eventually found out because while I was done getting my hair and makeup done this other girl that was getting hers done looked over and pointed at me and was touching on her face ( I couldn't hear what she said) and then the makeup artist looked at me and turned real quick because she realized I was watching them and I hear her say it wont show because the camera will be too far away. My heart sunk and I wanted to crawl under the table.

No one ever says anything mainly because I have red marks, but I wear concealer.

But whenever a guy likes me, my sister "mentions" how I have to wear cover up and how ugly I am. =/
