Pros:

None.

Cons:

Expensive, doesn't work at all.

In 4 months of use, this product destroyed my skin. Instead of clearer skin, breakouts spread to my cheeks and forehead, my zits were larger, redder, and more painful, and I was spending $70 a month for this torture. It may work for some people, but are you willing to risk worse acne for the small chance it will work for you?

Pros:

It did clear up my majority of my skin.

Cons:

I still had pimple break outs every n then. And it is expensive, I bought the individual face wash and spot treatment in Sephora store. But then bought the set online because that was a better deal.

I stopped using birth control and thats when my face starting breaking out. I used the regular face washes from the store and didn't really do anything. Then tried proactive and saw no improvement. Then tried murad and it seems to work better. But it's only been a month so I'm hoping it'll be better next month.

Pros:

I've noticed all reviews are only over 30 days. I know it says three weeks on packaging, for clear skin, but it takes longer than that. Like. for me it was 6 months. And now I don't get a pimple. EVER.

Cons:

Takes a long time to work, expensive.

If you have the cash and paitence for it, try Murad. I used Demroclogica before, and It made my skin worse. Murad cleared up the flaky skin and such, and I really liked it. The moustrizers is reallly nice.

Pros:

-Can be used as often as you want (I use twice daily)
-Great under concealer (use a very fine layer of cream)
-PLENTY cheaper than prescription acne creams!

Cons:

-A little drying after a couple weeks of use, but easily fixable with a little moisturizer
-Feels sort of prickly when I use more than I need to, which is such a weird feeling on your face

I would recommend this product to ANYBODY with acne, from mild to serious. It's the only acne cream that has ever worked for me, and I've tried everything. I really could throw all my other acne washes, creams, masks away and be okay with just this one product. I use it twice a day, a really thin layer all over my face and my acne, whiteheads, blackheads, everything is reduced to near nothing. One or two teeny zits is a WHOLE lot better than a face full of distracting big zits. I can even go tanning and not worry about easily burning, a luxury that most acne systems don't have. I didn't like the Proactiv Solution, but the Refining Mask is worth the cost, especially compared to prescription creams I've tried ($90 for a little tub of it! ahh!) If you're on the fence you should DEFINITELY try this product!

Pros:

cleanser makes skin feel really soft

Cons:

there are 4 steps and if you don't followvthe regimen everyday you'll break out
expensive

I've never that more than light acne until now after I used murad I've had terrible breakouts all over my face. When I started using this I did notice my face being a little clearer, but after 4 weeks my skin is worse than it was before. The acne treatment gel dried out my oily skin and it stung so I don't recommend using it on dry or sensitive skin. Spot treatment gel doesn't help it just makes the pimple hurt less, it doesn't make it smaller or reduce the redness. The cleanser is great and the lotion moisturizes dry skin but makes skin look shiny. Overall, in my experience the product doesn't live up to the guarantee of clear skin but thats just me, if the price tag isnt too much for you (it was for me) i recommend you try it and if it doesnt work you can return within 60 days which is what I did.

Pros:

I startred using Murad as a last ditch effort to get rid of the adult acne I aquired at 25. It works wonders and within 3 months my face has done a complete turn around. I'm so glad I tried it!! The post acne scar treatment works great for scars too.

Cons:

It is expensive for the treatments but I think the price is worth it for clear skin. Also the consitancy for the treatment serums can be sticky and burn you're face if you have sensetive skin.

This stuff is expensive but if you can afford it it's worth the try. I didn't get my first breakout until I was 25 but when it came it was horrific and cystic. I don't have an issue with price so I bought every skin care acne kit I could get my hands on from proavtic, to clinique, este lauder....you name it I tried it. Nothing worked. Murad has cleared my face up in 3 months and I've purchased the vitamins and I'm now taking those every day. I'm so glad I tried it even though I'm sure it doesn't work for everyone and if you have sensetive skin it may be a bit to strong for you to use.

Pros:

-It shrinks pimples when used as a spot treatment.

Cons:

-It dries out my skin so that I can't even use concealer the next day.
-It doesn't do anything when I use it as a mask.

I wish I could say that I liked this stuff, because it came free with my Proactiv system. It does not work for me. If I use it as a spot treatment, the pimple may seem a little bit smaller the next day, but it will be so flaky that I cannot use any concealer to cover up the pimple (which is still there). If your skin is oily, I bet it would work. If you don't use concealer, I say go for it! You have nothing to lose.

Finding a Doctor

The right dermatologist can make a big difference to your patient experience and the success of your acne treatment plan. Here are the steps to find a dermatologist who is a good fit:

  1. Use the search feature on the American Academy of Dermatology website to look for board-certified dermatologists in your area, and filter the search results for doctors with a special interest in treating acne.
  2. Read online patient reviews of any dermatologists you are considering and ask people you know whether they have any experience with these dermatologists.
  3. Do your research and go to your first appointment with questions prepared.
  4. Listen to what your gut feeling tells you once you see a dermatologist in person. If you are not completely comfortable, try a different dermatologist.

Finding a Doctor

Only a select few plastic surgeons specialize in acne scar revision surgery. Be certain to find a provider who specializes in acne scar repair and who is passionate and experienced in this area.

Be sure to:

  • Look at before and after photos, the more the better, especially patients with similar scarring to your own.
  • Be realistic about results. Look for improvement, not a cure.

Questions to ask a potential scar revision specialist:

  • Are you board certified? Be certain that they are board certified.
  • How long have you been performing these procedures? Normally, the more experience the better, however, some younger surgeons may be more on top of the latest procedures.
  • Can I speak to some of your other patients? Ask for references for several patients who had similar scarring and speak to them about the process and their satisfaction with results.

Red flags:

  • Their story changes: As you discuss different treatment options, if they tend to change their mind easily, or agree with whatever you say, consider this a red flag. A confident, experienced surgeon will possess strong, unwavering opinions.
  • Your gut tells you "no": Trust your gut. If you just don't feel that the doctor is the right fit, trust that and move on. On the other hand, if you feel they are the perfect specialist for you, trust that feeling.
