Due to its antimicrobial properties and ability to absorb skin oil and dry out the skin, sulfur has been used for thousands of years for various skin conditions, including acne. However, it is normally reserved for noninflammatory acne (whiteheads and blackheads), because it doesn't work as well as other over-the-counter medications for inflammatory acne (papules and pustules).

Product used: Murad (Acne Complex)
Cons:
Smells bad, left my skin uneven and rough looking, not worth the money.
It cleared my skin up a little. It was by no means as good as they make it out to be. My skin tone in uneven and I still have little blackheads around my mouth and nose and my forehead broke out more then it ever had using this product. I thankfully didn't go through the much revered purging process.Basically my skin stayed the same. I still had break outs but they weren't as big as the ones I had before I was using Murad. I gave it a fair shot and used it for 4 months before I decided to switch back to Proactive.
I won't be using this again. It's not worth the money.

Pros:
Works very well if used every other day or 3 times a week. I use it on my whole face everytime and sometimes reapply small dabs on the problem areas and sleep with it.
Cons:
Dries out the skin and an moisturizer is needed shortly after and highly recommended in the winter.

Where to begin... very expensive, treatment gel comes in a poorly thought out container, alcohol used in some products burns and dries skin, "purging" process never stops. Acne became worse than it's ever been.
Don't waste your money. Look at all the negative reviews on this site and elsewhere. It started out well, with my skin feeling soft and clean. After about a week, I started to break out pretty bad, in places I have *never* had breakouts before. They say this is the "purging" process, so I didn't worry about it, figured it was working. Through the second and third weeks of use, I kept thinking I'd turn a corner, but the "purging" just got worse. Zits and blemishes that went away were replaced, and I had more breakouts in areas of my face I never get acne. By the fourth week, I looked worse than I had my entire life, and by the end of the 5th week my skin was red and irritated as well. That's when I checked this site, and stopped using it. I wish I had done so sooner. I just hope it doesn't take me too long to get back to the relatively mild acne I was dealing with before I tried this product. BUYER BEWARE. Murad not only doesn't work, it may make your acne

I love the Murad Acne Kit!!! Of course I went through the "Purging" State, but everyone goes through that the first week... What can I say, it was a very good product... Oh and I stole from Ulta, so it didn't cost me any money (I wouldn't pay over $40.00 for skin Care!)

Pros:
It works, biggest pro is that it absolutely doesn't irritate your skin, makes your skin feel quite nice actually.
Cons:
Well i leave it on all night, and the stuff gets everywhere, all over my pillows, bed sheets, ect...But your not really supposed to leave it on all night so i guess its my fault.
It works, it makes everything less red, and calms/smooths the skin. Its kinda hard to wash off, i would suggest covering face before bed, then when you get up in the morning wash it off in the shower.

it does dry out your skin so it would be wise to only put it directly on the pimple.doesnt smell great but your doing it at home so who cares
the proactiv line is alright.not great but you have to get this little thing.overnight and you will have clear skin.I LOOOVEE ITTT

Product used: Grandpa's (Thylox Acne Treatment Soap)
Pros:
miracle product (for face only), softens skin, reduces red marks, works quickly and thoroughly, inexpensive
Cons:
have to buy online, can be difficult to lug around since it's a bar, had no effect on body acne
i had moderate and VERY stubborn acne for years, and countless red marks. i noticed a dramatic improvement after only a few days of use, and now after three weeks of use my skin is almost completely clear. furthermore, it has balanced my skin tone and my red marks seem to be fading - slowly but surely. i use this in the morning and at night, rinsing it off after a couple of minutes. i am still in disbelief at how well this product works for my face. however, i also have back and arm acne that i hoped to eliminate with this soap - yet i saw no results. but for the FACE... this is pure gold.

Pros:
The cleanser felt like it left my skin clean and fresh. Reduced my large pimples.
Cons:
Made my skin extra oily. Gave me a bunch of tiny pimples all over.
I've been suffering with acne since i was 12 and I'm 22 now. I've been on accutane three different times and it was a miracle drug, it left my face flawless but of course the results did not last. Before I started with Murad I would get large individual pimples and I would always pick and it would leave red scars. Since I started using Murad four weeks ago, my pimples have greatly reduced in size but left me with small zits all over my face. From a distance my face looked better but up close it was just a bumpy mess. Also it made my skin even more oily than it already was. Initially I thought it was the lotion that caused it but I think it was the treatment gel. I'm going to stop the Murad and use a retin-a & duac combo, I heard that works pretty well. Although my skin is alot better than it was when I was in my teens, I still do not want to have to deal with acne.
