Topical Keratolytic
Acne.org’s Real World Take
Due to its antimicrobial properties and ability to absorb skin oil and dry out the skin, sulfur has been used for thousands of years for various skin conditions, including acne. However, it is normally reserved for noninflammatory acne (whiteheads and blackheads), because it doesn't work as well as other over-the-counter medications for inflammatory acne (papules and pustules).

Pros:

there were no pros

Cons:

it stinks its expensive for something that doesnt even qualify it made my acne grow all over my face and they were huge and they hurt

try it maybe of you have little acne here and there but if your acne is terrible like mine go see your dermatologist they know what their doing and they can give you something but dont try murrad if your acne is bad bottom line!!!!

Pros:

I have only been using this product so keep that in mind while reading this but so far I have had fantastic results. it is not completely clear yet but a lot of my acne has gotten smaller if it has not disappeared. It really reduces redness as well.

Cons:

The smell is disgusting. During the day that is all I can smell no matter how much perfume I of on. Also my skin got really dry. I have sensitive skin so I expected that but I have only been using it at night so caution to users with dry skin.

It really has been working well so far with my acne and skin color. It evened out my skin tone and made my face smoother. I do have a lot of drying so you might want to try a more generic moisturizer. The moisturizer is also the source of the foul smell. Also do not buy this product from the website. I found it on amazon for only 20 dollars and it is the same exact thing minus the facial mask but it is worth it considering that you won't get stuck in an every month purchase and if you don't like the product you do not have to struggle to cancel before the 30 days before they charge you and send you a new one.

Pros:

The cleanser was alright, even though it didn't completely make my skin clear..it didn't cause me to breakout more.

Cons:

The murad spot treatment was way too harsh for my skin.. it damaged my skin. I think because it contains sulfur ingredients. The acne exfoliating treatment gel dried my skin out. The moisturizer was mediocre.

Please do not waste your money on these products. They end up irritating your skin more than treating it. There are cheaper products in drugstores that work better than this system.

Pros:

Their commercials really suck you into believing that their product will work. I was able to get my money back because I bought from their website.

Cons:

It made my mild acne horrible. I now have inflamed acne that has not improved yet. With consistent use for the promised four week improvement my skin was much worse than before using Murad.

It's not worth the money. I'd rather have the mild acne than what is happening to my skin now. Even with the use of true natural products and very clean eating, my skin is still damaged. The only thing that has changed in my routine is the Murad. Read The Green Beauty Guide.

Pros:

Dries out small pimples
Reduces oil

Cons:

When I leave it on overnight, it's hard to wash off in the morning, and i have to rub it really hard and that irritates my skin.
Also makes my skin extremely dry.

Doesn't work extremely well at all for me... but my skin's unique so it might work better for you.

Pros:

Best acne product i ever had. Shows results after 1-3 days. Pretty good.

Cons:

Not the best smell. When im sleeping, it gets all over my pillow and stuff since i move around in bed. This probably effected the result. xP. It works for small pimples, the big ones take a little bit more time.

Good product. Gives good results. Worth it for sure!

Pros:

It left my skin feeling soft and made my skin look good...i used proactiv and it made my skin look darker and dull. But it cleared my skin up alittle

Cons:

I still have acne.and blackheads.

I liked this product but it didnt clear my skin up. People would tell me my skin looks good but i hadnt started to wear make up and when i took the make up off...my skin was still blahhh...it smelt pretty good for a acne cleanser though! it did leave my skin actually feeling clean. I really wish that it wouldve worked! My boyfriend Jake is soooooo perfect and i'm soooo surprised he likes me! i just wish i could have clear skin so he would feel like im perfect! I WANT CLEAR SKIN!!!!!

Pros:

*Perfect for night time application
*Reduces redness and most blemishes
*Evens out the skin tone

Cons:

*It could have a nicer scent to it, but who cares, at least it works!

I have been using this product for over a year now, and it works great! It seems to even out my skin tone, and reduce and correct any unwanted blemishesacne spots. It hardens at first, leaving no residue on your face in the end!

Finding a Doctor

The right dermatologist can make a big difference to your patient experience and the success of your acne treatment plan. Here are the steps to find a dermatologist who is a good fit:

  1. Use the search feature on the American Academy of Dermatology website to look for board-certified dermatologists in your area, and filter the search results for doctors with a special interest in treating acne.
  2. Read online patient reviews of any dermatologists you are considering and ask people you know whether they have any experience with these dermatologists.
  3. Do your research and go to your first appointment with questions prepared.
  4. Listen to what your gut feeling tells you once you see a dermatologist in person. If you are not completely comfortable, try a different dermatologist.

Finding a Doctor

Only a select few plastic surgeons specialize in acne scar revision surgery. Be certain to find a provider who specializes in acne scar repair and who is passionate and experienced in this area.

Be sure to:

  • Look at before and after photos, the more the better, especially patients with similar scarring to your own.
  • Be realistic about results. Look for improvement, not a cure.

Questions to ask a potential scar revision specialist:

  • Are you board certified? Be certain that they are board certified.
  • How long have you been performing these procedures? Normally, the more experience the better, however, some younger surgeons may be more on top of the latest procedures.
  • Can I speak to some of your other patients? Ask for references for several patients who had similar scarring and speak to them about the process and their satisfaction with results.

Red flags:

  • Their story changes: As you discuss different treatment options, if they tend to change their mind easily, or agree with whatever you say, consider this a red flag. A confident, experienced surgeon will possess strong, unwavering opinions.
  • Your gut tells you "no": Trust your gut. If you just don't feel that the doctor is the right fit, trust that and move on. On the other hand, if you feel they are the perfect specialist for you, trust that feeling.
