Pros:

Less Oily Skin!!! Improves texture of my skin. Increase Self-Confidence!!!! ;)...It's a Miracle!!!!! ;)

Cons:

Makes you sleepy when you first start taking it but I'm on my third week and I seem to be adjusting to medication. Same with urinating!!! Don't let side effects deter you from staying on med!!!! Keep with it!!!! The benefits sooo outweigh the costs!

I have battled with Acne for years and have tried everything under the sun. Acne has severely affected my self-esteem and confidence. I was finally was fed up from all the failed meds and went to my dermatologist and asked to be put on Accutance. I was cautious to go on this Accutance because of the possible severe side effects. But my derm said she thought that my acne was hormonal and suggested Spironolacton. I was curious if it would work because I thought Acctunane would be my saving grace. My derm put me on 100mg a day. As with any acne med things get worse before they get better. I am now on my third week and already see great results. I have always had extremely oily skin and it has greatly reduced. I have read reviews and people say you have to wait months to see full results and if I'm seeing these kind of results the first 3 weeks, the sky is the limit! If you suffer from Acne and haven't found relief for the problem this is your more than likely your solution.

Pros:

Clear skin, no more oily skin

Cons:

Slight dryness

After being told by my doctor that there is no cure for oily skin, I researched spironolactone online and got another doctor to prescribe it. My skin was so oily I had to blot it a half hour after washing. It really made me feel uncomfortable and unclean. I would wake up to a wet face and new breakouts every morning. It took a while but during my third month on the medication the oil completely stopped. Now I do not blot my face at all and my skin is clear. I encourage anyone who has tried tons of creams, lotions, antibiotics and accutane with no results to try this pill and give it a chance to work.

Pros:

This pill works! I have been on it for roughly 3 weeks and my face has cleared up. I had cystic acne and haven't gone a day without breaking out in years. My face had people mistaking me for a meth adict. It was awful.

Cons:

Muscle cramps (jimmy legs at night) and dehydration.

It works - it makes acne disappear. I have't gotten to see if it lightens my period, but if it does, that's just one more "pro"!

Pros:

Almost clear skin, reduced body hair, weight loss of about 5lbs.

Cons:

Muscles pains, low blood pressure, initial tiredness and weakness, initial nausea and loss of appetite.

Not being nasty but I wish people would give products a chance to work before writing a review! It gives an inaccurate rating out of 5 otherwise. I'm using 75mg per day in addition to Dianette and have been on it for 7 to 8 months. I noticed an improvement within the first few weeks and I did not have an initial breakout. My chest and back are completely clear, and my face is almost clear and now looks flawless if i wear foundation. I think if I increased to 100mg per day, which is what I was prescribed, my skin would be completely clear, as it has made a vast improvement. But I'm not going to increase, as my blood pressure has gone down to 98/55. I've had a couple of side effects, as listed, but nothing that has made me want to come off it.

Pros:

this medication is a miracle. I used to have horribly oily skin and only after about 4 days of use (50mg twice a day), the oil is gone!!! I have a lot of small bumps on my forehead that i'm hoping Spiro will clear up as well.

Cons:

Needing to pee so many times a day

This drug is a miracle. Really. It works because it attacks the root cause of most oil and acne--> androgens. It blocks their receptors so that they don't have an effect. It'll work miracles if you have oily skin or hormonal acne.

Pros:

cleared up my skin

Cons:

dizziness

I have battled acne for 18 years and this is the only time in my life that my skin has been even close to clear. I had tried everything short of accutane and my doctor decided to try just this one "last thing" before going for the accutane treatment. I'm amazed. In one month, I've gone from having about 20 new pimples each morning to having one new one every couple of days. I honestly thought nothing would work for me - I had been on every treatment imaginable - both topical and oral. This is the only thing that has worked for me.

Pros:

Cleared Acne, dried out skin.

Cons:

Dizziness, fatigue, dehydration

I started breaking out a little bit after I graduated highschool. I broke out super super bad. I went on everything in the book every antibiotic you can think of, took acutane twice, got laser treatments, went on birth control, nothing seemed to cure my acne. Everynight I would look in the mirror and hate what I saw. I never felt good about myself. People don't lose hope, because spiro has changed my life! The Dr's never thought it was hormonal acne, but when they finally decided it could be and put me on spiro it has changed my life. I started about 4 months ago, I saw some clearing at first, but did not see a significant change until the past month. Everyone has complimented my skin and I feel like a new person. I can actually look in the mirror without makeup on and feel good about myself. Be patient this pill takes time. Don't expect instant results. You'll feel side effects at first but keep on using it and hopefully you'll see results too.

Pros:

Miracle Drug!!! Clears up acne, less oily skin and better
skin texture. Could feel it working quickly...

Cons:

Feel a little more tired than usual but well worth the benefits of
this medicine

I am 54 years old and have battled acne since a teenager. Was told I would "outgrow" this by the time I was 20.. Ha.Ha.!! Taken accutane twice and every antibiotic available. This is the ONLY drug that has ever helped to this degree. Guess what?? I discovered spiro on this website and my ob-gyn prescribed 100 mg. daily. I cannot believe the results..it is amazing!! Would love to hear from others my age to see how this drug is tolerated long term. My only regret is that I did not learn about spiro sooner. I would urge anyone who has persistant acne to try it. Now...how can I get rid of all these scars?

Finding a Doctor

The right dermatologist can make a big difference to your patient experience and the success of your acne treatment plan. Here are the steps to find a dermatologist who is a good fit:

  1. Use the search feature on the American Academy of Dermatology website to look for board-certified dermatologists in your area, and filter the search results for doctors with a special interest in treating acne.
  2. Read online patient reviews of any dermatologists you are considering and ask people you know whether they have any experience with these dermatologists.
  3. Do your research and go to your first appointment with questions prepared.
  4. Listen to what your gut feeling tells you once you see a dermatologist in person. If you are not completely comfortable, try a different dermatologist.

Finding a Doctor

Only a select few plastic surgeons specialize in acne scar revision surgery. Be certain to find a provider who specializes in acne scar repair and who is passionate and experienced in this area.

Be sure to:

  • Look at before and after photos, the more the better, especially patients with similar scarring to your own.
  • Be realistic about results. Look for improvement, not a cure.

Questions to ask a potential scar revision specialist:

  • Are you board certified? Be certain that they are board certified.
  • How long have you been performing these procedures? Normally, the more experience the better, however, some younger surgeons may be more on top of the latest procedures.
  • Can I speak to some of your other patients? Ask for references for several patients who had similar scarring and speak to them about the process and their satisfaction with results.

Red flags:

  • Their story changes: As you discuss different treatment options, if they tend to change their mind easily, or agree with whatever you say, consider this a red flag. A confident, experienced surgeon will possess strong, unwavering opinions.
  • Your gut tells you "no": Trust your gut. If you just don't feel that the doctor is the right fit, trust that and move on. On the other hand, if you feel they are the perfect specialist for you, trust that feeling.
