Topical Keratolytic
Acne.org’s Real World Take
Easy to find and with low side effects, but don’t be surprised if you are left wishing for better results after using it for a while. Any acid on its own is unlikely to dramatically clear acne.

Pros:

clears acne really quickly
gentle; doesn't sting
a little goes a long way!

Cons:

doesn't smell so lovely
a little pricey!

This is a nice body wash. I use it with one of those poufy things and it foams up, making the application really gentle. I use it almost every day, and I only need to use a little bit. My bacne is definitely clearing up significantly, as well as my chest and shoulders. I know I'm probably not supposed to, but sometimes i use a little bit on my face and that works pretty well too. :) The only problems are that I just wish it had a fragrance, or at least smelled a little better! Not that it makes me gag or anything, but it would be cool if the body wash doubled up as a nice smelling soap. Also, it was a little expensive. But all in all, this is a really good solution for body acne.

-Cheap

Cons:

I have combination skin. There are many better moisturizers out there. (It sounds like CeraVe is the way to go.)

Pros:

Refreshing
Helped my breakout considerably, and have only had 1 new spot since using it.
Easy pump bottle
Cheap

Cons:

IF overused, can irritate the skin. (but my fault for overusing) hehe
Not all that hydrating for very dry skin (as I have)

I have used Clean and Clear cleanser for years and am quite attached to it. So when I found this moisturiser at the store from Clean and Clear, decided to try it out on my light forehead spots that have been coming and going the last few months. I tried it out after using my clean and clear cleanser and toner and really liked how it felt and it did seem to help combat my existing spots... however.. I got a little too excited at the idea of it taking it alllllll away and put a new layer of it on every few hours and got a mild kinda .. rash/burny kinda thing after a few days which I suspect is from the salycic (spelling?) ingredient that is in all my other clean and clear things and I figure i may have overdosed :P It doesnt fully hydrate my face, but after taking a few days break to let my forehead calm down from the overdose, I use it just once a day in the morning, and a deeper moisturiser at night. Not a miracle cure, but I found it to have helped.

Pros:

LOVE IT!! I have adult acne and this was the ONLY stuff that worked! Not even Proactiv worked for me. Good Price too!

*****Go on Facebook and search "Loreal Pure Zone" and sign up so we can get them to hopefully bring this great product back!!!****

Cons:

SOOO MAD they don't make it anymore

This was a great product as many of you have stated before and I don't get why companies pull great products off the shelf. It was a great price for a great product.

Pros:

Moisturizes well without leaving skin oily or shinny. Evens out skin tone very nicely. Smells nice.

Cons:

Expensive, can be too harsh at times. No SPF.

I've been dealing with mild to moderate acne for about 11 years now. Thanks to my dermatologist I get very few breakouts, so my acne is definitely well controlled. The one area where I've struggled is finding a good moisturizer. Most either don't provide enough moisture or leave me with a greasy feel and a shinny face. Also, this is wonderful in evening out skin tone. Although I'm not getting nearly as many pimples these days, the ones I do get tend to leave a mark. This helps to reduce the appearace of those friendly little reminders. That's one of the key benefits of this product - actually makes my skin appear to be healthy, not just pimple free. That's a huge and important difference. Sometimes the fact that this moisturizer is medicated is a problem as I have days when my skin is extra sensitive. For me, using topical rxs makes this product a less agreeable on certain days. But otherwise no complaints! They could lower the price though, jeez.

Pros:

I had moderate acne when i first started using this, i have been using it for months now and it has kept my skin clear, except the odd pimple or 2. Notice results really quick also.

Cons:

Smells kinda funky, but not too bad.

It's a great acne busting product. Especially when used with St.Ives Blemish Fighting scrub and Olay moisturiser for sensitive skin. It worked wonders on my acne. Recommended for anyone and everyone, even people with sensitive skin, like me.

Pros:

Keeps skin feeling fresh and clean throughout the day
Helps acne

Cons:

None

I have only been using it for 2 days, and I wash my face when i wake up in the morning and before i go to bed at night. The first time i used it, it was at night and the next morning i woke up my forehead where i usually break out was almost clear and i had about 10 pimples! (believe it or not) and they were all either not red anymore, they went right down, and a few were completely gone! I have been trying different products for a while now and so far this is the only good one, it showed fast results and makes my skin clear and soft ! I love this product, it does wonders. If your suffering from acne i recommend this its great! Also try drinking 8 glasses of water a day.. that helps a lot and prevents your skin from getting dry. Green tea also helps, but it helps clear acne, so one cup a day is good !

i used proactive solution for over 3 yrs. it does work for couple week but it dont stop as often with OXY clensing pad. i had really bad acane on my face allover. i was planing to go see doctore too. but then one of my frined told me to try OXY Clensing pad. and after start using OXY it clears my 60% of acane within 6 months and i havent got any new acane since over 3 months. you can see affects within a week of using it. OXY is alot cheaper and easy to use compare to proactive. proactive had too many hassale while using it.

Pros:

Best acne scrub ever!!!!!!! And I have tried them all!!!!!!!! so affordible and just perfect. really makes my face feel clean!! The granules are big enough to clean away all the dead skin and build up. I hate tiny granules. Nice minty feel and smell.

Cons:

Wish they could make a gel version of this scrub, with extra foaming ability, other then that it is perfect just the way it is!!

Great stuff!! Best scrub ever!!!!

Pros:

Removes all makeup, keeps skin looking fresh and clear, dries out pimples and keeps pores clean...does not irritate as long as your skin is not extremely sensitive

Cons:

can dry out your skin (like most acne products), and can be too harsh if you are using other strong things on your face.

It's dirt cheap- it contains triclosan, which kills bacteria, plus it has a lot of heavy duty surfectants to remove everything from your skin. I get the kroger brand, it's the same thing!!

Finding a Doctor

The right dermatologist can make a big difference to your patient experience and the success of your acne treatment plan. Here are the steps to find a dermatologist who is a good fit:

  1. Use the search feature on the American Academy of Dermatology website to look for board-certified dermatologists in your area, and filter the search results for doctors with a special interest in treating acne.
  2. Read online patient reviews of any dermatologists you are considering and ask people you know whether they have any experience with these dermatologists.
  3. Do your research and go to your first appointment with questions prepared.
  4. Listen to what your gut feeling tells you once you see a dermatologist in person. If you are not completely comfortable, try a different dermatologist.

Finding a Doctor

Only a select few plastic surgeons specialize in acne scar revision surgery. Be certain to find a provider who specializes in acne scar repair and who is passionate and experienced in this area.

Be sure to:

  • Look at before and after photos, the more the better, especially patients with similar scarring to your own.
  • Be realistic about results. Look for improvement, not a cure.

Questions to ask a potential scar revision specialist:

  • Are you board certified? Be certain that they are board certified.
  • How long have you been performing these procedures? Normally, the more experience the better, however, some younger surgeons may be more on top of the latest procedures.
  • Can I speak to some of your other patients? Ask for references for several patients who had similar scarring and speak to them about the process and their satisfaction with results.

Red flags:

  • Their story changes: As you discuss different treatment options, if they tend to change their mind easily, or agree with whatever you say, consider this a red flag. A confident, experienced surgeon will possess strong, unwavering opinions.
  • Your gut tells you "no": Trust your gut. If you just don't feel that the doctor is the right fit, trust that and move on. On the other hand, if you feel they are the perfect specialist for you, trust that feeling.
