Acne.org’s Real World Take
Easy to find and with low side effects, but don’t be surprised if you are left wishing for better results after using it for a while. Any acid on its own is unlikely to dramatically clear acne.

Pros:

Awesome
Convenient
Moisturizes face
Smells Good
Leaves my skin feeling clean

Cons:

Stings if you put it too close to eyes (eyebrows, bridge if nose... )

I've been using this for about a year all together... the first few months I was inconsistent, but then I started washing my face regularly, and therefore moisturizing regularly. I never really had bad acne, but I don't have as many blackheads as I used to or as many pimples. I love it, and swear by it. In order for me to feel like a product has worked, I need to feel something... and the cold sting feeling I get shows me that.

Pros:

It has actually helped lessen my amount of blemishes. It made my skin itch the first few days, but I think this is the only product that has showed results. It's gentle, smells nice. I recommend it to anyone.

Cons:

Doesn't include SPF. :/

FANTASTIC!

Pros:

My face is mostly clear and ive only been using it for a little over a week. After using it my face feels really clean and fresh and it smells good. Its gives my face a nice scrub but is gentle at the same time.

Cons:

Like every other acne product ive used dries my face a little bit but i fix that by using a moisturizer immediately after.

Ive tried countless products and some of them worked but they made my fave extremely dry and i wasted my time using3 step systems. I but a small sample of this for a dollar and its lasted me over a week and my face is clear and feels very smooth and is mostly clear of blemishes. I think im going to buy a big bottle of this stuff and continue to use it because its been very helpful to me.

Pros:

This stuff makes my skin feel like a freaking baby's butt. It's organic and does what it is said to do.

Cons:

At first, the face wash takes you by surprise. The citrus-like smell is not what you'd expect; neither is the sensation that your face has been slapped awake (in a good way, of course). Beware that this product, like many others, causes dryness.

Great stuff. It works well with oily, fair skin and takes away some of the redness. Burt's Bee's products work differently; some of their acne treatments may not work well with your face. I am, dare I say it, eternally pink in the face and paper white everywhere else. I hate it. I used their purifying gell cleanser. OMG. This stuff is AMAZING. Try it out. If its not for you, find out why and get a treatment that is right for you.

Pros:

It's AWESOME! It soothes the skin and removes dead skin cells.

Cons:

none :D

This is GREAT! I have been dealing with acne for about 8 years and there have been some ups and downs on the products I've experimented with. I would only recommend this the product to be used the way I use it for max. benefits: Use this during the day and at night use BP (benzoyl peroxide). Before using this lotion I only used BP and although that worked great for about a month the excessive dryness actually caused more and larger bumps. I am very sensitive so its been way to hard to find a moisturizer that doesn't cause breakouts. Finally I found this lotion which moisturizes.. exfoliates and contains 2% salicylic acid which unclogs pores ..prevents blemishes..and also helps diminish fine lines and wrinkles!!! Oh and also.....NOTE: ONLY use neutrogena rapid clear acne defense face LOTION NOT GEL!!!.....the gel is not good!

I really like it
I have dry, acne-prone skin and this stuff just saved it. I use it everyday (yeah, your read correctly, EVERYDAY) in the mornings. I just splash a little bit of cold water on my face, put a little amount on my hands (a little, it goes a long way) and then put it all over my face and just use it as a face wash, then I just wash it off and pat my skin dry with a little towel. My skin is bright and clean when I use it, and then I just use my favorite face mosturizer. This is really good for my skin, it didn't give me more blemishes, it is not so drying on my skin, it's just excellent. I love it. If you use it, just put mosturizer and you'll be covered!

Made acne worse but good makeup remover
This face wash did nothing but increase my acne within the first 2 weeks of using it. The smell is also very sickening. However it is a very good makeup remover, and makeup brush cleaner. So if any of you paid some good money for this wash and it doesn't work, don't throw it away, use it for cleaning your makeup tools instead!!

Finding a Doctor

The right dermatologist can make a big difference to your patient experience and the success of your acne treatment plan. Here are the steps to find a dermatologist who is a good fit:

  1. Use the search feature on the American Academy of Dermatology website to look for board-certified dermatologists in your area, and filter the search results for doctors with a special interest in treating acne.
  2. Read online patient reviews of any dermatologists you are considering and ask people you know whether they have any experience with these dermatologists.
  3. Do your research and go to your first appointment with questions prepared.
  4. Listen to what your gut feeling tells you once you see a dermatologist in person. If you are not completely comfortable, try a different dermatologist.

Finding a Doctor

Only a select few plastic surgeons specialize in acne scar revision surgery. Be certain to find a provider who specializes in acne scar repair and who is passionate and experienced in this area.

Be sure to:

  • Look at before and after photos, the more the better, especially patients with similar scarring to your own.
  • Be realistic about results. Look for improvement, not a cure.

Questions to ask a potential scar revision specialist:

  • Are you board certified? Be certain that they are board certified.
  • How long have you been performing these procedures? Normally, the more experience the better, however, some younger surgeons may be more on top of the latest procedures.
  • Can I speak to some of your other patients? Ask for references for several patients who had similar scarring and speak to them about the process and their satisfaction with results.

Red flags:

  • Their story changes: As you discuss different treatment options, if they tend to change their mind easily, or agree with whatever you say, consider this a red flag. A confident, experienced surgeon will possess strong, unwavering opinions.
  • Your gut tells you "no": Trust your gut. If you just don't feel that the doctor is the right fit, trust that and move on. On the other hand, if you feel they are the perfect specialist for you, trust that feeling.
