Platelet-rich Plasma

Compare To Other Treatments

Immediately after treatment:

  • Pain or a burning sensation is often present during and immediately after PRP treatment. After treatment, the skin will be red and swollen and may bleed.
  • There is no need to apply a special dressing after the procedure. Sometimes, gentle pressure with gauze is applied to stop the pinpoint bleeding.
  • After treatment, it is important to avoid sun exposure and apply sunscreen.

Days and weeks after treatment:

  • Skin redness and swelling may persist up to 2 days at most. When the skin heals, crusts may form at injection sites.
  • Your doctor may recommend using a moisturizer in the day or two following treatment.
  • Your medical professional might also advise you to avoid skin products with alcohol after the treatment, as well as intense sweating. Thus, make sure to schedule your workout at least 2 to 3 days after the treatment.
  • It is important to use sunscreen whenever the skin is exposed to the sun until you are completely finished with all of your treatment sessions and your skin has healed from your final treatment session.

Longer term:

  • Long-term side effects have not yet been reported. However, very limited studies have so far been performed.
