Pros:

not pregnatnt, clear skin, shorter periods, hardly no pms symptoms

Cons:

none until i was switched to otc lo, then i had to go off it cuz i started clotting.

i loved the regular otc. i was on it for years. i wouldnt have changed except the local planned parent hood stopped using it, they switched me to the otc lo, and it was great until i started clotting after only a couple of months.

Pros:

Prevents pregnancy, regulated my periods.

Cons:

None to note personally.

I have had absolutely no problems with Tri-Cyclen for the nearly 3 years that I have been on it so far. I have actually lost weight since being on it. As well, I had moderately bad skin before going on this pill and shortly after starting it, it completely cleared up and has treated me quite well ever since. From personal experience, at least, I highly recommend it.

Pros:

jumped a cup size in my boobs, shorter periods, clearer skin, no pregnancy!!

Cons:

EMOTIONAL breakdowns that come out of no where, bloating, upset stomach if i do not eat, change in appetitite (increased)

I have been on this pill before when i was 15 (i am now 21) and overall i think its a good pill, but the emotional breakdowns and bloating are sometimes too much to handle. The bloating seems to never go away!! anyone else experianced this? Plus, my periods have been very short compared to normal and VERY light. Not sure if this is completely normal with being on the pill.

Pros:

no babies,lighter periods, no cramps

Cons:

didn't help acne AT ALL, moodiness, bloating, weight gain

I started taking OTC Lo to help my acne.... and it did NOT work.... the only thing it did is make my period lighter. I gained 15 lbs in my first couple months of using it and my breast did not change at all.

Pros:

regular periods, bigger chestial region :)

Cons:

broke out like crazy then evened out a little but overall acne is worse off.

wouldn't recommend it unless it is necessary as a contraceptive-- not for acne. it is pricey as well so free clinics would also be the only way to go

Pros:

Not Pregnant, Cheaper than Orthro Evra,

Cons:

Moody, Emotional, Bloated, Pimples, blackheads and whiteheads (NEVER AN ISSUE BEFORE & nausea

It's birth control. It's preventing pregnancy which is the only reason why I began taking it. The crying has subsided and my moods are more stable. However, I'm not a fan of the acne that seems to come along with this pill, in my case. I've always had clear skin but am now noticing an appearance of whiteheads, blackheads and pimples. I'm also suffering from nausea. I've only been taking this stuff for 2 months and if by month 4 there are no changes, I will DEFINITELY get off of it.

Pros:

Guards against pregnancy

Cons:

Horrible cystic breakouts, nausea, bloating, cravings, emotional mood swings and dry skin.

As I'm sitting here looking into the mirror, let me tell you follks, stay away from OTC if you're looking to clear up your face. My face wasn't bad before I started, but I just went on this as a form of contraception. Now I just want to be off of it! My skin is terribly dry, and has broken out all over my forehead and cheeks, and weirdly around my neck and chest area which have NEVER ever once broken out in my life. From a girl that never used to get pimples this is a horrible experience, they hurt, they're huge, and they leave scars. I am extremely moody and depressed, and I feel REALLY bloated. It's like I"m gaining weight except it doesn't show on the scale. I just feel like I'm 300 lbs. Not a fun experience. Get off this sh*t while you can.

Finding a Doctor

The right dermatologist can make a big difference to your patient experience and the success of your acne treatment plan. Here are the steps to find a dermatologist who is a good fit:

  1. Use the search feature on the American Academy of Dermatology website to look for board-certified dermatologists in your area, and filter the search results for doctors with a special interest in treating acne.
  2. Read online patient reviews of any dermatologists you are considering and ask people you know whether they have any experience with these dermatologists.
  3. Do your research and go to your first appointment with questions prepared.
  4. Listen to what your gut feeling tells you once you see a dermatologist in person. If you are not completely comfortable, try a different dermatologist.

Finding a Doctor

Only a select few plastic surgeons specialize in acne scar revision surgery. Be certain to find a provider who specializes in acne scar repair and who is passionate and experienced in this area.

Be sure to:

  • Look at before and after photos, the more the better, especially patients with similar scarring to your own.
  • Be realistic about results. Look for improvement, not a cure.

Questions to ask a potential scar revision specialist:

  • Are you board certified? Be certain that they are board certified.
  • How long have you been performing these procedures? Normally, the more experience the better, however, some younger surgeons may be more on top of the latest procedures.
  • Can I speak to some of your other patients? Ask for references for several patients who had similar scarring and speak to them about the process and their satisfaction with results.

Red flags:

  • Their story changes: As you discuss different treatment options, if they tend to change their mind easily, or agree with whatever you say, consider this a red flag. A confident, experienced surgeon will possess strong, unwavering opinions.
  • Your gut tells you "no": Trust your gut. If you just don't feel that the doctor is the right fit, trust that and move on. On the other hand, if you feel they are the perfect specialist for you, trust that feeling.
