Works but very irritating
Like the title says, very irritating but fair enough for mild to moderate acne. And since it causes skin flaking(at least for me),it gave me hypermigmentation.

Epiduo Forte worked wonders for me
I am a 21 year old girl with mild acne. My main issues are closed comedones and the occasional large, blind pimple. When I began treatment on this topical, I was given Bactrim as well. I noticed improvement immediately after starting Epiduo Forte. My skin has always responded very well to BP, so I knew that was part of my success. But the adapelene really lightened my post acne marks and made my skin really smooth. I did experience an intense burning sensation at times, along with peeling, but I now buffer it with a light moisturizer and have had much less redness and irritation. It purged all my comedones and made getting a pimple way less frequent, and best of all no more close comedones occur. Also I haven't had any "deep" pimples since using this topical. It is definitely something I recommend when people ask me about my skin!

Day One
I am a 28 year old female who has suffered from cystic acne on the cheeks , nose, mouth and chin as well as white heads, black heads and sore rash like spots, since I was 17. I have been on and off Lymecycline my entire acne career, and in between I have tried every expensive, cheap, medicated and herbal remedy that I have researched to work. Every path I have tested has been carried out for three months minimum to have certain results; some worked for a while then stopped (eg Lymecycline, witch hazel and aloe Vera) and some have been a disaster! I have wanted to come off Lymecycline for a while now because the idea of taking a pill every day for the rest of my life is not appealing, for both the reasons of waste and undoubted eventual resistance to the drug. Yesterday, For the first time in my life, I saw a dermatologist to discuss my options. I asked for roacutane but past depression and continued social anxiety has ruled me out of that option. I cannot have birth control as I have migraine with aura that rules it out, and I have taken the choice aside from acne to not take chemical birth control (personal choice). The dermatologist believes that I am breaking out occasionally, despite being on Lymecycline, because my body is building an immunity so she prescribed Epiduo to use alongside Lymecycline, until the breakouts stop; then I will stop Lymecycline and switch to Epiduo for the long term. I have been cautioned to expected some initial dryness, as I would with many acne lotions, I have read many reviews of people having adverse effects to Epiduo within their first week. I wonder if this is to do with their application? My dermatologist directed me to apply just TWICE A WEEK for the first THEEE WEEKS to allow my skin to adjust to the ointment. This is in stark contrast to some users who appear to be applying EVERY DAY in their first weeks of usage; no wonder they are reporting burning, redness and excessive flaking. After the interim two to three weeks I will increase application to three times a week, as directed, for a further two weeks and then to every day. My first application was not uncomfortable and did not burn, hence four stars. I will update with my progress!

Worked great for a while but....
When I was 12 years old I started getting acne on my forehead. When I went to my dermatologist, he prescribed me Epiduo. I was on Epiduo for almost 3 years and my skin improved tremendously. All of the sudden I started breaking out everywhere; my cheeks, forehead, chin, back, chest. My doctor told me that I had been on Epiduo for too long that my skin was getting use to it and pretty much rejecting the medicine. I'm 16 now and have tried soooooo many medicines. I'm about to start accutane and I couldn't be more excited. All in all, Epiduo is great. Although, it doesn't help keep acne away forever. Don't we all wish we could find a miracle medicine to do just that?

Be Patient
The first few months were rough as my sensitive skin adjusted. I started out applying the EpiDuo once every 3 nights, and eventually moved to applying it every night. It look time for the redness to go away, but so worth it. I have been using EpiDuo for over 2 years now and my skin has never looked better. People actually compliment my complexion! I am now going off EpiDuo because the price has been increasing for me each time I refill. Bummer!

You can get a generic benzoyl peroxide gel and a generic retinoid and just rotate them every other night to save money.

is it good to spot treat pimples through Epiduo? thanks a lot

Didn't work very well
This irritated my skin quite a bit, however I believe it was due to the benzoyl peroxide and the fact that my skin has a slight sensitivity to it which I have experienced with other treatments containing benzoyl peroxide. This caused me to breakout A LOT at around the 3 week mark, effectively making my acne worse. While I intended to stick it out, the treatment just made my skin very, very irritated even after using it for over one month. I didn't really notice any improvement on my inflammatory acne, however it did work on my non-inflammatory acne. Nonetheless, as soon as I discontinued treatment, my closed comedones and non-inflammatory acne came back. However, I think that it is worth a try as it may work better for you than it did for me! :)

3 weeks & 2 days into treatment
I got on this product because I was so sick and tired of my persistent acne. Throughout high school and most of college I had regular skin with a pimple here and there but nothing abnormal at all. Right after I graduated college (22 years old) my acne started to get worse and worse. At its worst I have subsurface pimples, large pores, blackheads, and whiteheads. My cheeks is where I get the majority of my acne and towards the sides of my face. On my forehead there are a few blackheads here and there and the same goes for my chin. The subsurface bumps are soooooo painful!! I started epiduo in January 2016, and today marks the 3rd week and 2nd day. I haven't had any significant improvements in my skin as a whole but I made the decision to stick with the treatment for a total of 3 months and if I saw no improvements I would either get to a dermatologist or try the acne.org regimen. Every single review I've read has said that it does take a while to work, so I believe 3 months is plenty of time for my skin to be well adjusted and for me to see some type if results. I also noticed that a lot of reviewers were saying that their skin started to clear within the first 1-2 weeks while using epiduo, but I just figure because I have sensitive skin it may take my skin a little while longer than others. Right now my skin is very dry/flaky, and my cheeks still have a ton of bumps on them. I use the epiduo with the Cetaphil face wash and moisturizer and Botanicals Rosewater toner to combat irritation. Again after 3 months I'll decide if epiduo is worth staying on but if it continues the way its been going then I'll probably just try the acne.org regimen! I gave the product 3 stars and recommended simply because I have only been on it for 3 weeks so I can't say with confidence that it does or does not work. I will post another review after 3 months!

Finding a Doctor

The right dermatologist can make a big difference to your patient experience and the success of your acne treatment plan. Here are the steps to find a dermatologist who is a good fit:

  1. Use the search feature on the American Academy of Dermatology website to look for board-certified dermatologists in your area, and filter the search results for doctors with a special interest in treating acne.
  2. Read online patient reviews of any dermatologists you are considering and ask people you know whether they have any experience with these dermatologists.
  3. Do your research and go to your first appointment with questions prepared.
  4. Listen to what your gut feeling tells you once you see a dermatologist in person. If you are not completely comfortable, try a different dermatologist.

Finding a Doctor

Only a select few plastic surgeons specialize in acne scar revision surgery. Be certain to find a provider who specializes in acne scar repair and who is passionate and experienced in this area.

Be sure to:

  • Look at before and after photos, the more the better, especially patients with similar scarring to your own.
  • Be realistic about results. Look for improvement, not a cure.

Questions to ask a potential scar revision specialist:

  • Are you board certified? Be certain that they are board certified.
  • How long have you been performing these procedures? Normally, the more experience the better, however, some younger surgeons may be more on top of the latest procedures.
  • Can I speak to some of your other patients? Ask for references for several patients who had similar scarring and speak to them about the process and their satisfaction with results.

Red flags:

  • Their story changes: As you discuss different treatment options, if they tend to change their mind easily, or agree with whatever you say, consider this a red flag. A confident, experienced surgeon will possess strong, unwavering opinions.
  • Your gut tells you "no": Trust your gut. If you just don't feel that the doctor is the right fit, trust that and move on. On the other hand, if you feel they are the perfect specialist for you, trust that feeling.
