Pros:

Works fairly quickly. My face is pretty much 95% clear from when I started. I had cystic acne and nodules, but now I have the occasional breakout.

Cons:

Cost (even with the Advantage card, each tube costs $35. Luckily it seems to last a pretty long time.)

Itchiness after applying

Didn't really reduce the readness and scarring as some others have experienced

Great Product. After the first month, I saw results, but don't think it'll look clear, it takes time for it to kick in. I think this, in addition to drinking more water helped clear me up!

Pros:

Fading away my acne
Works!
Clears skin FAST

Cons:

Causes an initial break out
*Mine lasted two days*
Dires out your skin a bit (moisturize like crazy)
Expensive

It's fast acting and will make your acne go from wow prominent to fading away then nothing. I love it! You see the progress on your face and it is worth the money. I love it love it love it. It can burn for a little bit like the first week but deal wit it. Just don't put so much on at first, that doesn't mean that you will get clear skin faster it just irritates your skin. So start with small amounts and then add more after the second week. Best advice PATIENCE and a POSITIVE attitude :)

Pros:

Works fast, it cleared up my skin in 4 weeks or less while using it daily. It helped fade old/new acne scars.

Cons:

Minor irritation, burning when I first started using it, some peeling and dryness.

This product, after using several over the counter acne products, has been the most successful in clearing up my acne. My dermatologist recommended I try this along with the pills Doryx and another topical Aczone and after a year or so of using all three products my skin has never been better. I apply Epiduo every night, it doesn't dry out my skin anymore. It helps fade away my old acne scars and helped lessen the redness of my cystic acne. I love this product and I hardly break out at all anymore. I would definitely recommend Epiduo, it worked for me, it can work for you:)

Pros:

Cleared the bulk of spots.
Pretty much killed them overnight.

Cons:

-Drying+flaking
-Stings
-Redness

I found that after continued use (from about the 3-6th week) it kept bringing new pimples to the surface and left me with a lot of blocked pores and in turn they became inflamed

It worked well when i had moderatley bad skin to clear the bulk of my acne but then it started breaking me out a bit so i stopped it and used a 4% benzoyl peroxide and that did the trick.

Pros:

it worked pretty fast for for the small pimples it takes it little longer for cystic acne

Cons:

It occasionaly burned and i had dry patches on my skin.

This is a great product, i have had this for over a month and it works well. After a month my skin was almost clear on maybe 2 compared to before when i always had more than 10 at a time. When i had first tried it i had no side effects about second or third week it burned for around three days(it stopped 10-15 min after i put it on) but it stopped. I had also taken this with Doryx a pill that gets rid off the bacteria it gradually gets rid of the acne, I dont get as much anymore im extremely happy about that. Unfortunately cystic acne sometimes gives you post inflammatory hyperpigmentation, a mark thats not a zit but not a scar but some foundation will hide it. but i love this product and recommend you try this.

Pros:

none that i could see

Cons:

irritated skin; burning, redness
caused severe breakout

i'm honestly surprised by the good reviews this product is receiving. i've had severe cystic acne for eleven years, which is relatively under control at this point. two weeks ago i went into my derm to get two very small blemishes injected, as i have discovered that an early cortisone injection will prevent a larger cyst, and ultimately a cluster from forming. while at the office, my doctor insisted that i switch from benzaclin (which despite its mildness, has been working for me for years now) to a retinoid, and gave me a handful of samples of epiduo. normally i don't try new topicals so casually - i've learned this lesson many times - but since he would not renew my scrip for benzaclin until i tried it, i went ahead and did so. now, 13 days later, those two small blemishes - one on my cheek, one on my chin - have turned into clusters totaling 19 whiteheads (12 on my cheek, seven on my chin), with cysts forming below. i know these meds tend to cause breakouts before things get better, but to go from two to nineteen is ridiculous. i have enough acne scarring; i don't need more. the epiduo goes in the trash.

Pros:

- Gets rid of "old" zits (slowly but surely)
- seems to help fading red marks
- good value (a little goes a long way)
- reduces redness
- you can choose your own cleanser and moisturizer

Cons:

- if you don't moisturize with a proper moisturizer, your skin will start scratching, being more red and sting
- makes you break out

I've used this product for 2 weeks now. I didn't experience redness, stinging or burning on my face, but when I applied a bit to my neck, I accidentaly forgot to moisturize there. The next few days was the area red and scratchy. I could have hoped for a bit faster results by now. I'm still breaking out, even on places I haven't broken out before or places it's quite unusual. But, on the bright side, my nose and the front of my forehead are so SOFT! I love it! And a few of my red marks are fading. I don't know if it's the Epiduo, the Emu Oil (I use Emu Oil as a moisturizer) or something else, but they first started fading after I began using Epiduo. I'm crossing my fingers for this to fully work! It's quite slow, so I guess I should give this product 2 months to work..You have to get rid of the old zits first, in order to see if it works :D

Finding a Doctor

The right dermatologist can make a big difference to your patient experience and the success of your acne treatment plan. Here are the steps to find a dermatologist who is a good fit:

  1. Use the search feature on the American Academy of Dermatology website to look for board-certified dermatologists in your area, and filter the search results for doctors with a special interest in treating acne.
  2. Read online patient reviews of any dermatologists you are considering and ask people you know whether they have any experience with these dermatologists.
  3. Do your research and go to your first appointment with questions prepared.
  4. Listen to what your gut feeling tells you once you see a dermatologist in person. If you are not completely comfortable, try a different dermatologist.

Finding a Doctor

Only a select few plastic surgeons specialize in acne scar revision surgery. Be certain to find a provider who specializes in acne scar repair and who is passionate and experienced in this area.

Be sure to:

  • Look at before and after photos, the more the better, especially patients with similar scarring to your own.
  • Be realistic about results. Look for improvement, not a cure.

Questions to ask a potential scar revision specialist:

  • Are you board certified? Be certain that they are board certified.
  • How long have you been performing these procedures? Normally, the more experience the better, however, some younger surgeons may be more on top of the latest procedures.
  • Can I speak to some of your other patients? Ask for references for several patients who had similar scarring and speak to them about the process and their satisfaction with results.

Red flags:

  • Their story changes: As you discuss different treatment options, if they tend to change their mind easily, or agree with whatever you say, consider this a red flag. A confident, experienced surgeon will possess strong, unwavering opinions.
  • Your gut tells you "no": Trust your gut. If you just don't feel that the doctor is the right fit, trust that and move on. On the other hand, if you feel they are the perfect specialist for you, trust that feeling.
