Pros:

I am now well into my 10th day of taking bactrim and it is just starting to work noticeably. My nodular acne is getting smaller. I have been taking this as a temporary treatment before I start accutane.

Cons:

Takes awhile to start working.

Give it a try, its cheap... you don't have much to lose except the acne.

Pros:

clear skin
extremely affordable

Cons:

sensitivity to sunlight
it is an antibiotic

Female - mid 30s - i have been taking this med for approximately 6 years. it has worked very well for me until recently. i assume after taking an antibiotic for so long you would become immune. it was the "miracle" pill for a long time. tried minocycline, tazorac, differin, finevin, ziana, different types of OC (birth control pills) and this was the solution. i tried multiple times to stop taking it - sometimes i would manage a couple of months, sometime a week, but my skin would go crazy, so back to the Bactrim each time. i am really going to try and stop taking it now because it is no longer working that great and i really worry about taking an antibiotic that long, but i do worry what is going to happen... i have a rx for .3% differin and benzaclin and am thinking along the lines of PDT. i will let you all know. good luck everyone, this is a seemingly never ending battle

Pros:

Not Sure Yet

Cons:

Headaches, dizziness

ive been using this for almost 3 weeks, it seems to be working on the back and chest, but i honestly dont see improvement on my face, i think this may be because i am also on retin a which is known to "surface" all of your acne but i dont kno. But be cautious to take it easy when excercising. i work out alot and i am in pretty good shape, and the last 3 times i have gone to the gym i have received instense headaches and dizziness. I vomited thelast time and i am not even working out as hard as i did before using the medication i dont know why exactly this happenes, but i think the vomiting may of been excercising with a stomach full of water since my mouth dries out so quickly(which is also from this drug) so i drank over a gallon of water. so yeah just be careful. in the meantime i am going to pray i see results soon

Pros:

Works quite well, although not 100%. I'd say it cleared it up by 75% on my face and 40% on my back. Definetly made the big ones smaller.

Cons:

About 5 years ago started with 2/day and had a mild rash, cut back to 1/day and had no problems. Stopped after a year after it lost its effectiveness, came back 6 months ago and its doing pretty good.

Works good for an on again off again solution. My doc suggested using this for 6-12 months, then switching to another drug (can't remember the name) when this loses its effectiveness then back to this again in another 6-12 months. Sounds like a good plan. Really no problems with the allergic reactions.

Pros:

This stuff works!

Cons:

I've had several derms refuse to prescribe it saying it was a severe drug, and that they NEVER prescribe it. Some said they've never heard of it being used for acne. HELLO, get with the program docs!

After having frustrating and painful acne for years, and trying many topicals and orals, thank God I found two doctors with the common sense to recognize this is what I needed to clear my skin up. I received many compliments after my skin cleared up, "Are you doing something different, your skin looks great?" I do recognize that there are possible side effects, but I don't think I've experienced any.

Pros:

Cleared me in three days. This worked well for about 5 months but I've started getting cysts again.

Cons:

I've never used an antibiotic (and I've tried them all) that I became resistant to so quickly.
I'm not allergic to this drug so I've had no other side effects as of yet but reading the possible side effects are scarey. I'm getting off this drug.

This is definitely not for long term use. My internist told me it is very hard on the liver and kidneys plus the possible side effects of Stevens-Johnson syndrome do not make up for the short term clearing of my skin.

Pros:

cheap
easy

Cons:

may cause dry/ flaky skin and rashes

Within the first few days i tried bactrim, i noticed a change in my skin. im excited for the results.

Pros:

Prevents cysts
Reduces oil production
Kills Bacteria

Cons:

Does not clear acne.

Kills bacteria, prevents cysts, does not clear acne. I would recommend if you're trying to maintain your active acne. By no means is this a miracle pill.

Pros:

Works when using, but takes awhile to start working

Cons:

After using for 5 months, it was like my skin became immune to it, and it stopped helping.

This is a very old drug. It's main purpose is to clear up UT infections, and other infections in the body. After hearing about people dying from taking Bactrim, and the fact that i still had bad acne, i decided to stop taking the pill. However, if you trust medicine, and do not have harsh acne, i'd suggest it, but not long term.

Pros:

Works slightly with high dosage, no bad side effects

Cons:

Does not work on chest, shoulder or back acne.

Have used this for nearly 6 weeks now with little improvement and have even increased my dosage to taking 6 double strength pills per day. Anybody who is taking this for body acne is definitely better off skipping this and going straight to Accutane.
