Pros:

No side effects.

Cons:

Having to take it 2 times a day. It also seems like it's too strong of an antibiotic to be prescribed for long term use.

My acne never really got better. I was taking Bactrim while using Retin-A and Duac for about 4 months. My derm had me stay on it for a while because I guess Bactrim does the trick for most people, but it never worked for me.

Pros:

inexpensive

Cons:

migraine, nausea, dizzy spells, disimprovement of acne

ive been on many antibiotics, topicals and birth control treatments that have not worked, but this is the first treatment that significantly worsened my condition.before treatment i had moderate acne, not inflamed, localised to centre of my forehead, chin, cheeks, chest+back.in the first3 weeks i noticed improvement, along with frequent headaches.from then, considerable disimprovement, along with daily migraines, nausea, dizzy spells and i have fainted several times.i have been taking trimethoprim for 4 months and now have cystic acne with several cysts on my face+back.i broke out heavily all over my forehead and the sides of my face, and developed milia on my temple, and an extensive coverage of blackheads.i have a vast coverage of acne on my face and my skin is thinner and more sensitive.i have noticed my oil production has increased.i continure to take this faithfully so my derm will have no choice but to prescribe me roaccutane, as scary as that is.this treatment was hellish for me.

Pros:

- It has a lot of positive reviews from people

Cons:

- Its Side Effects are annoying and could be dangerous

I'm 15 years old and I've had acne for two years now. At first I would try using cheap acne creams but that didn't work so I started to use a pill called isoface which is basically accurate and I started getting really depressed so I stopped. I went to a dermatologist for the first time and prescribed me minocycoline and again I started to get an allergic reaction to it do I stopped. About a month ago I was prescribed SMZ - TMP 800 1600 and it sucks. It's been one month and I haven't seen absolutely no improvement if anything it's become worse. I also have experienced painfull diarrhea so I've come to realize that when none of these pills or creams work for you just stop taking them. I'm getting tired of trying this or that to cure my acne so just to hell with it. I'm just going to let time pass and it WILL go away by itself.

Pros:

Worked to clear cystic acne when topical agents were ineffective for me (40 year old female ). Highly recommend Bactrim for moderate to severe acne.

Cons:

Must drink 8-10 glasses of water a day in addition to taking 1-2 pills per day. Long term use of antibiotic requires doctor supervision and blood testing for toxicity/depletion of red and white blood cells.

The antibiotic contains Sulfamethoxazole, so should not be used by individual's with sulfa allergies. This ingredient in Bactrim requires water consumption water to prevent kidney stones. (REALLY IMPORTANT to drink 8 ounces of water with the pill and do not take diuretics with antibiotic). The antibiotic also uses Trimethoprim which may cause anemia from a deficiency of folic acid. Bottom line is Bactrim can be very effective, but with the potential side effects (especially the disruption of folic acid metabolism) it should be the option after other non-prescription solutions have been ruled out.

Pros:

Worked very well on my skin

Cons:

I had a serum reaction and had to go to the hospital for a night. Awful symptoms including high fever, a lot of vomiting, and a rash.

It's probably a great drug if you know for sure that you can handle sulfa drugs. Otherwise the reaction can be pretty intense and scary.

Pros:

Didn't upset my stomach like most antibiotics do. Seems to be clearing up my back acne. I got it filled for free at Publix

Cons:

Large pills...must be taken 2x day

I started taking them on Thursday, it's now Monday and my back acne seems to be clearing up. I've been taking them in conjunction with a sulphur wash and topical treatment (Ziana). Hasn't done much for the light acne on my face.

Pros:

Within days my skin was looking way better, I still got one or two smaller pimples a day, but nothing large like I was getting before, and by day 10 I haven't gotten one in a few days (a HUGE event for me).

Cons:

Makes me VERY sick - headaches, nausea, dizziness, lightheadedness, my body feels like it's pulsating, I get incredibly cold, I feel tired, depressed... I've tried drinking it with lots of water and eating lots of food, but that only helps a little.

Works great, but the side effects make it terrible. I'd rather live with acne! Right now I'm just taking it at night since it doesn't seem to affect me as badly when I'm sleeping.

Pros:

I am on day 3 of this and love it!!! For the past 3 months I have been on 3 other antibiotics and non worked. I already see my cysts getting smaller and pimples healing.

Cons:

I am prone to yeast infections and have gotten a HORRIBLE one due to this antibiotic. If you are prone to these, you may want to ask for a diflucan prescription.

For 3 months I have tried to clear my chin. This is the first time I have seen any improvement.
