Tea tree oil is defined by international standard ISO 4730 (2004) (“Oil of Melaleuca, Terpinen-4-ol type”), which specifies levels of 15 components, which are needed to define the oil as “tea tree oil.”

Among over 98 compounds contained in the oil, terpinen-4-ol is responsible for most of the antimicrobial activity.

Pros:

- has a nice herb smell
- results in a day or two
- has cooling and relaxing effect
- can be applied daily

Cons:

- very oily and runny, so can get a bit messy

I would say this is so far the best natural treatment I've used to reduce my acne. It works quickly and feels natural. You can also find cheap ones with small concentrations of tea tree oil and it still works.

Pros:

-brings pimples to a head then shrinks them
-does a great job at fading scars
-don't have to be too wary about putting too much, because it doesn't clog pores.

Cons:

-Doesn't help acne in the long run, just fights present acne
-Strong smell (I like it, but I don't like my mom asking me if I'm putting 'medicine' on my face).

I've been using Extra Virgin Coconut oil for about three months now (just so that you know what else I've been doing) and it has really helped my acne in the long run. However, the acne that did continue to show up was still difficult to deal with. That's where tea tree oil comes in. I bought a small bottle for $10.99, but a little goes a long way. Last week, I saw a scary cyst-like pimple developing. The kind that forms under your skin and is very big and painful. I applied this to that faithfully and it made it first extremely hard, and then it started shrinking it. Now, there is practically no scar on my face. Had it not been for the oil, that cyst may have gotten really big and red, and would still be on my face. Tea tree oil seriously zaps zits, and dramatically reduces the size of acne. You do have to be a little patient though, it takes three days before the acne is completely gone, but it beats popping zits, spreading germs, and leaving scars. A lot of people say that they dilute it, but I apply it straight on my face, and a lot of it too. I've never had any burning or irritation. Then again, I don't have sensitive skin, so please, test it on a small patch of skin before applying it all over your face!

Pros:

Cured my pimples! Refreshing. Natural. Tiny bottle lasts a very long time.

Cons:

Didn't seem to help with blackheads/whiteheads or enlarged pores.

I haven't had an infected pimple since I started using this product, and before I used to get about 2 a day! I simply mix a drop of pure tea tree oil in with a generous amount of moisturizer (Cetaphil) every night before bed. It has a tingling cooling sensation and a strong but pleasant smell. I'm also on Yaz and Retin-A but tea tree oil seems to have been the final step that was lacking in my routine.

Pros:

Not expensive

Cons:

Smells bad
Stings/Burning sensation

My skin was normal and not sensitive at all before I used this product. My breakouts were only one or two small pimples here and there occasionally..otherwise, I had perfect skin. I tried this product as my friend simply raved about it saying how she never has pimples because of it. I used it one time at night before I went to bed. The next day I woke up and my face felt itchy and painful. I rushed to the bathroom mirror and my face was completely red and covered in cystic-like acne and acne vulgaris. It was so terrible and happened so fast (overnight) that my own brother could not recognize me. At first, we thought it was an allergic reaction to the product so my parents brought me the doctor. He simply diagnosed it as a severe case of acne and unable to explain how it suddenly happened. Determined, my parents brought me to several dermatologists hoping to fix my "mess up". My parents ended up spending thousands of dollars with many dermatologists only to finally give up 3 years later. I first used this product when I was 17 years old. I am now 25 and still paying the price. It has only been recently that my face has gotten better. However in place of all the acne are now many enlarged pores, scars, and "craters". What's worse is that my face is now very sensitive to many products so I am not even able to wear any kind of make-up without breaking out. I would not wish the emotional trauma this has caused me to even my worst enemy. I would give anything to have my perfect skin back with the occasional small pimples here and there. On a final note, please please, if you really insist on trying any products, find a GOOD dermatologist and consult with him/her first. It would also be best to test a patch of skin first for any harmful reactions. Everyone's skin may react differently to any product and it is better to be safe than sorry especially when it concerns your face.

Pros:

Decreased the amount of oil on my face.
Smell was definitely different at first, but got used to it now.

Cons:

Been using the line from bodyshop and acne isn't clearing up at all,

As all the other products out there, try them and see if they work for you, 'cause everyone has different reactions to products. I actually thought this product would be the one for me, but it's not doing much right now and I feel like moving on from this product.

Pros:

It works great for me!!

Cons:

The smell - only put on @ night before bed

I've tried everything and tea tree oil is the only product that seems to work for me. I don't mind the smell, but it's not something I can wear to my office etc. With that said, applying just at night seems to work fine.

Pros:

It helps with new pimples if you catch them right away. I was able to stop a good amount before they fully formed. Doesn't dry my skin out, but my skin is naturally oily to begin with.

Cons:

Nonetheless, it hasn't helped me stop my acne from appearing. I just recently got two large cysts last week that are just now healing. My skin is still very red in those spots. It also smells strong.

I think it good to keep around for the occasional zit that you can catch early. Also, it wouldn't hurt to mix a few drops in your regular toner. I feel it isn't any miracle cure, then again most of know there isn't one otherwise you wouldn't be reading this.
