Tea tree oil is defined by international standard ISO 4730 (2004) (“Oil of Melaleuca, Terpinen-4-ol type”), which specifies levels of 15 components, which are needed to define the oil as “tea tree oil.”

Among over 98 compounds contained in the oil, terpinen-4-ol is responsible for most of the antimicrobial activity.

Pros:

I feel very very clean througly... and love the smell...

Cons:

As weird as it may sound, it cause me a severe breakout

I had a few minor pimples to start with, and after using tea tree oil for a week, ( i use the whole tto program from Body Shop ) things just got worse. Now i had zits on my cheek, jawline, chin and forehead. But my skin is always sensitive, so most things that suit others dont suit me well..

Pros:

-takes the "infection" out of pimples overnight
-seems to have prevented new ones
-not very expensive considering how long it lasts (use 1-2 drops at a time)

Cons:

-strong smell
-may cause dryness if not used properly
-may cause skin to darken if not used properly

Do not use this pure! It may seem like a quick fix but you run the risk of overdrying your skin. I mix with emu oil and it works wonders! I squirt a dime size amount of emu oil in my palm (not on your fingers, the tea tree oil is liquid and rung through). Drip a drop of tea tree oil in there and mix well. I have applied this to my whole face acne or not with no problems (avoiding sensitive eye area of course!). If you wish to apply emu oil to your undereyes (it works great for fine lines and darkness) apply pure emu before never after as when applying it after it may mix with the tea tree already on the skin. Use at night as the emu oil leaves you shiny. I wake up in the morning my skin looks so plump and radiant! Remeber to use a fresh pillow case every night! Old oil that gets smeared a round on it can't be good for your face.

Pros:

Antibacterial, so kills acne for a long period of time. Does not damage your liver as minocin or pills. If used correctly doesn't make bacterial resistant to it. Cleared up 80% of my breakouts.

Cons:

It's expensive. It leaves a sticky feeling. It smells a little. It doesn't clear up existing black heads or around 35% of existing cystic "new" breakouts (people who know understand these one...the ones that you know will turn out bad guys in weeks).

I have had cystic acne for about 7 years (I'm 24), but breakouts started at 15. I literary tried everything. Salycic Acid, Benzoil Peroxide, Minocin (Antibiotic, Pills), Fucidin. Don't get me wrong, the first two worked years ago in reducing a small proportion of it. Now they don't work at all. No matter the amount or percentage of SA or BP. I have taken pills three times and they reduced it for a long time, but I needed months of treatment and they are really bad for you. I think that I developed resistance to antibacterial like fucidin. I used Deacneal from a french laboratory for two months before TTO, it's fantastic and really improved my skin, but it didn't clear my acne up completely and didn't look as if it was. I was also using Clinique for Acne, better than the usual clean and clear. like that but not enough for someone who has aSo...I have been using tea tree oil for about 2 months now. It has been fantastic. I switched completely to the whole line of The Beauty Shop.

Pros:

Best product so far. I tried Tee Tree Acne Wash and since i had dry/oily skin i used Aubrey Natural Herbal Mostrizer.

Cons:

I haven't had anything so far.

I have had acne since i was 12 and now I'm 26. I have used everything from Proactive to you name it. I have went to the dematolgist and the things they prescribed burned my face and irrated my skin. I have spent 100's of dollars and i came across a nice lady in Salem, VA name Stacey at the Herbal store and she took time with me and helped me find a soultion. Everything i use is natural and organic. So if you haven't tried this please do. I wouldn't lie to you becaseu i have bad bad extremly bad skin and i wish you can see for yourself. I'm very happy with the results.

Pros:

Dries up acne super quick, even overnight. I believe that it kills the bacteria that causes acne too.

Cons:

The smell is so pungent. heh. My boyfriend calls it "doo doo oil". Good thing that smell is only temporary and I think taste too. Also it dries up your skin, which works out for me because I have oily skin.

I think it's worth a shot. I have oily skin and moderate acne. It may not work for you but like I said, I think that it's worth a shot. I just ordered jojoba oil from "Ditto's Wholesale" because it's cheaper and they just sent me an email promoting tea tree oil... "Preliminary scientific research (mainly in vitro) supports claims for various health benefits for tea tree oil . Inhaled, tea tree oil is said to make breathing easier by "breaking up congestion". It supposedly can alleviate a sore throat and minimize the symptoms of cold, flu and systemic fungal infections. As a bath additive it may control bacteria in spas and pools. Massaging diluted tea tree oil into the affected area may alleviate the discomfort of sore muscles or joint injuries. It also reduces hypertrophic scarring. Tea tree oil has been found to kill Propionibacterium acnes; the main cause of acne vulgaris both in vitro and in vivo." I hope that this information helps you even in a little way. BYE!

Not a cure, but helpful for inflammation
Tea tree oil is great! Along with lavender oil, I use it "neat" on my acne areas (just a drop or so) to help calm redness down and kill bacteria. It seems to keep some acne at bay and DEFINITELY shrinks acne that I've popped. (I know, bad habit.)

Diluted tea tree oil with witch hazel for the win
I use tea tree oil diluted with witch hazel and distilled water in a face wipes concoction I keep in a Tupperware container it works really well but I have extremely extremely oily skin so the fact that this concoction is drying is for me a good thing. A little tea tree oil diluted goes a long way with acne. I did try it undiluted for a while but that just seemed to aggravate my acne I now use it with the witch hazel and some water and find it is less harsh I guess which allows the acne to heal without it going into over drive extremely dry sore face lets explode acne mode. I find this helps my oily / hormonal acne flare ups to heal quicker and that I get less of them with consistent use.

Do you mind sharing your mixing ratio for the TTO, witch hazel, and water? I'd love to try this! :)
May 9, 2016
There really isn't a ratio I just kind of wing it until it looks damp enough. I know that's not helpful but at least a cup of witch hazel for a whole container of paper towels not packed too tightly. I've also been adding some apple cider vinegar with the mother and lavender oil as well with good effect.
