Awful acne and mood swings

I was prescribed Dianette for my acne a few months ago and I regret ever starting it. For one, my acne is worse than it’s ever been and I finished the second pack last week. I know people say it takes a few months and it gets worse before better but I’d never have started it if I knew this as it wasn’t that bad before!

It also completely changed me as a person, from someone who’s motivated and generally a happy person to having suicidal thoughts. Mainly during the second pack, I felt myself sink into such a low mood where I didn’t want to even get up in the morning. I felt like a cloud was constantly over me, I got snappy at the smallest things and cried almost everyday and my family and friends all noticed. I felt hopeless and honestly didn’t see the point in living. I also had 0 sex drive which isn’t great for a new relationship and felt I was even beginning to turn on my boyfriend. I was basically isolating myself and falling out with everyone around me!

I stopped this pill 5 days ago, I’m on the 7 day break but I will NOT resume taking it. 5 days without it I feel I’ve found my old self again! Today I went my first run in weeks since I had the energy to go, I found myself smiling more than I have in months and my mind is so much clearer. I even cried with happiness when I realised I was singing to songs on the radio!

I’m hoping my skin will clear up eventually, it’s only on my right jaw line and I’m using EpiDuo cream and a skincare regime as well as having cut our dairy, refined sugar and caffeine. Don’t get me wrong I’d have loved dianette to have cleared my skin eventually without those awful side effects but I hear it comes back worse than ever once you stop taking it (in the uk it’s only prescribed for a short time eg 6 months) so it’s only a temporary fix. It’s definitely not worth it and I’d strongly advise anyone who’s thinking of taking it to think of an alternative.

Dangerous
In the past decade I've done three stints of Dianette, or Co-Cyprindiol as it's now called. The first time, back in 2007, it worked a charm and I was on it for about 5 years. However, when I came off my spots returned, but not badly. In 2015, it cleared my spots again but made my skin dry and flaky. When I came off, my spots returned worse than ever and I started getting thick hair growth on my top lip, arms and legs, which eventually evened out. Just a week ago, I started it again, and now I've broken out in the worst cystic acne I've ever experienced. Seems to me, although it works while you're on it, after each stint your symptoms return with a vengeance. My advice? Never start on it

Varicose Veins
I'd never recommend this pill to anyone, it's very dangerous. I have PCOS and took the pill for 5 years. I went from moderate acne to perfect clear skin in two months. My nightmare started when I noticed varicose veins in my legs and other side effects like headaches, mood swings, anxiety, depression, grumpiness and low libido. Also, once you quit the pill your acne will come back worse than before.

Wasn't for me
Works for some people but I came off this within two and a half weeks of taking it. After the first week I began feeling very low and just mentally unwell. It was a hard feeling to explain but depression is often hard to describe. I stuck with it for a further week and a half but I couldn't take the depression any longer. I gave it a go and it didn't work but that doesn't mean it won't work for other people. I had suffered from depression in my teenage years and depression does run in my family so maybe I am more prone to feeling like this. Who knows? But I knew pretty quickly it wasn't for me.

Pros:

Cleared up most of my acne

Cons:

Took months for it to clear up, still isnt fully cleared after 8 months, painful period pains for 3 days straight, depressed moods all the time, unhappy, emotional, didnt feel myself anymore, i changed. Wanted to get back to my normal self.

Basically at first i was impressed but i would advise people NOT to take it, i couldnt wait to get off them, i was so unhappy and i felt i had lost who i was! It may react differently to different people however my friend started taking them and she had been feeling exactly the same as i had after just 3 weeks,so girls take my advice and please dont take it, believe me you will be happier off them than on them. NOT worth it.

Pros:

none

Cons:

made skin worse, terrible mood swings, weight gain

DIANETTE IS EVIL!!! Took dianette for 9 months and i did nothing to improve my skin, if anything it made it worse. i also found myself getting angry/moody over everything and crying for no reason. made me a really horrible person to be around. it also made me gain lots of weight :( even though i was still eating the same amount as before. I have now been taking yasmin for 2 months and can see my skin slightly starting to improve already and no mood swings either!!

Pros:

none.. unless you consider bigger boobs a plus (but only a result of the 15-20 lbs you'll gain in weight!)

Cons:

weight gain... (scientifically proven btw because it causes insulin resistance, so your body doesn't metabolise carbohydrates and makes you crave sweet drinks/food. Read about it in medical journals!!!)

its a temporary fix that certainly isn't worth it; you might fix your skin but you'll end up self-conscious about your weight when you gain 15 lbs. Then, when you stop dianette your acne will come back worse than ever. If you don't stop taking dianette (as some women do for years and years) you run the risk of infertility, ectopic pregnancies, miscarridges etc as your body has stopped ovulating for so long. Stay away from this drug and other birth control pills. If you need birth control whilst on roaccutane, do your body a favour and just don't have sex for 6 months.

Worst pill I have been on

Cons:

Increased oily skin
Severe headaches
Fatigue

Where do I start, have been on the contraceptive pill since April 2011, I went on the pill as my periods were awful, and I mean sometimes on going non stop on for a month, the doctor said it seems I have mild scale of pcos ( polycystic ovary syndrome ) he put me on a pill to help correct my periods and apparently the pill is good to go on If you have pcos . I started off on microgynon which I was on for 6 months, unfortunately it made me very moody, emotional etc, I then went on femodette which I have actually been ok on and have been taking up until two weeks ago, I spoke to a gynecoligyst who said I should in no way be on femodette as it is not good for pcos. ( I also explained to him how I always feel weak, lethargic, exhausted, tired, groggy and I can't lose weight, not over weight but would like to lose a few pounds) I've had various blood tests trying to find out why I always felt so weak, lethargic and groggy ( as in greasy, sluggish etc, and I eat very well & excercise so I didn't understand why I felt this way! ) blood tests showed no results as to why I felt weak 24/7! ( I'm only 18 ) so, the gynecoligyst told me to come off femodette and go on the evil dianette ( BIG MISTAKE ) I started dianette after my week break having my period, I started dianette on the 14th of August and I can honestly say its been the worst pill I have been on. I have felt 10000x worse than before!! emotional, 100x more greasy, 100x more weak than I was before, hugely bloated, so so exhausted, tired, lethargic, light headed, HUGELY Increased my appetite. It also interrupted with my sleeping! I couldn't even sleep at night,my body would never shut off properly and go in to full state of sleep no matter what. I felt miserable and It caused me to have severe headaches too. I heard pills high in oestrogen can cause fatigue ( tiredness etc ) which this pill has. So I call doctor friday 23rd because by then ive had enough of the way I feel, she says if I THINK its the dianette pill causing this,to just stop taking it until I see her next week, I was 50/50 on whether to stop taking it suddenly or wait until ive had the rest of the pack. I wasn't sure if to take the rest and see how I go. But I decided that friday morning to not take it. Friday evening I had an amazing sleep for the first time in ages! I slept all night long! next day ( saturday ) I had work all day which I dreaded as i thought I would feel weak and lethargic as always.. Well guess what, day two off the pill and I felt NORMAL all day! I could actually work! no weakness, no tiredness, no tears, no headaches, I felt good! Happier.I have put it all down to the pill, & dianette was 100x worse, So this pill certainly is NOT a pill I recommend at all! Maybe my body does not like the pill no matter what one it is, but dianette I can honestly say made all my problems 100x worse. I have heard this pill is one of the most high risk pills too. No no no!
