Pros:

Cheap, easy to tolerate no obvious side effects.

Cons:

May lead to antibiotic resistance.

I have been taking Erythromycin 5oomg twice daily for four weeks it cleared my acne almost immediately. I am 48yrs and have suffered from acne particularly on my chin since I was a teenager. I have found that since I have grown older the red scarring does not fade as quickly. This drug has worked very well and I will ask my doctor if I can stay on it as long as possible. It is great not to wake up every morning and put my hand up to my face and not feel a new spot appear.

Maybe...
Did literally nothing for me except give me thrush (at 14...great) but worked for my brother - he was 16, had moderate cystic acne and this was the first thing he used. It cleared him up completely and seven years later his skin is still perfect.

The first thing that worked!
E-Mycin worked wonders for me. My Derm put me on 2x400mg doses a day before I started on the Iso and it has helped sooooo much. Derm has left me on it while starting Iso so I am hoping it will help with the IB too. I know long term antibiotics aren't for everyone, but these ones were a god sent for me and I will happily keep taking them to have clearer skin!

Pros:

none

Cons:

tight skin from dryness, stomach ache, causes pimples to get red

I don't really like it i used benzaclin in the past and it worked wonders the dermo prescribed me enthro. because its the generic version but it never did, and it doesn't work no where near the same as benzaclin.

Pros:

After 12 months of 2.5% BP, this 5% BP + Erythomycin combo gel cleared up my skin overnight! Also, product is often covered by your insurance!

Cons:

Be prepared for VERY dry skin. Also redness, itchiness, and flakeness. Use plenty of moisturizer!!!

I am 29 years old and have been struggeling with moderate acne for 3 years. I have been on the 2.5% BP regime for over about 1 year, and my doctor decided to prescribe me a Erythomycin + BP combo gel to speed up the healing process. The BP is 5% in this solution. My skin was clearing up slowly before with just BP, but now it is almost completely clear! This combo gel made an almost over-night impact on my skin! I recommend this product only for people who have been using BP for a while now, because this combo gel makes your skin VERY dry and itchy, so you need to prepare your skin for this treatment gradually. I still have the occasional zit, but nothing as inflammatory as before. I love this product and wish I would have known about it sooner! **Every morning and night, I wash my face with Neutrogena Acne Wash (Salicylic Acid), wait 5 min., apply the combo gel, wait 15 min., and apply Cetaphil Daily Moisturizer**

It's alright....
This has worked well for me in conjunction with Benzoyl Peroxide topical solution but now my skin is clear i think im going to just go for the acne.org regimen as it has brilliant reviews. I am skeptical as to whether or not these antibiotics have given me side effects, i've been taking them for years now and was unaware of when to take them in regards to food timings etc but now I think about it it may have given me anxiety and uncomfortable stomach issues.... I thought those were just my problems naturallly but I guess we'll see when I come off them! Question: I would like to stop taking these pills right now. Does anyone know if you can just abruptly stop antibiotics or do you have to wean yourself off them? (The doctor wanted me to stop taking them anyway a few months ago btw so that isn't an issue, just wondering if it'll give me side effects etc).

Good but not a long term soloution

Pros:

Did work
Cleared skin reasonably well

Cons:

Side effects - Indigestion, feeling sick.
Short term

I was oral Erythromycin for about six months, it did really help my acne. I maybe got a couple of spots now and then while on it but still had the redness around my t-zone. It did help but when i was on my fifth month it began lose affect and i started to break out quite badly.

Pros:

decreased acne slightly.

Cons:

came back, worse than before.

I think my acne became resistant to the antibiotic. while I was on it I still broke out. Don't be disheartened, it may work for you, it just wasn't for me.

Pros:

It's made a huge difference in my face already. Greatly reduced redness.

Cons:

Extreme drying, some peeling, just really stingy & burny after applying & long after.

Well basically the bottom line is; I think it's working well so far. I've been dealing with this nasty cystic for what seems like forever, yet I'm 16. My dermatologist prescribed me minocycline also, but after hearing all the horror stories, I decided to hold off on that...lol. The topical gel is working well for me, & with coverup I look blemish free & feel a lot better about myself! Cheap with insurance.
