Pros:

fresher skin, improves overall complexion

Cons:

not suitable with skin having active acne

your acne needs to be stopped before you can try out this treatment. Remember this is for acne scars not acne itself.I had to wait for years to try this one out and I have to admit..it did improve my scarring...by reducing the depth of the scars. However, regular care is neccessary. There is no quick fix. Microderm along with regular skin care routin and healthy diet habbits goes a long way...I paid 275 pounds for a course of six

Pros:

Leaves the skin fresh feeling, over time there is a reduction of scars, pigmentation, and freckles. A definate over all improvement in smoothness of skin, and much less discoloration.

Cons:

Cost adds up over time. Depending on the estetition, the micro may be done too lightly for significant results. Also some people may not like how a deeper peel feels, even if results are better. (I prefer deeper peels, but don't always get it)

Here is how it went down for me. The first time I got microdermabrasion done almost two years ago I was very happy with the results. I had 11 sessions and my breakouts just about ended,no more cystic acne at all, just an occasional little pimple once in a while. Almost all of my scars were gone and only a very ,very slight blotchyness remained. The darkening over my upper lip was never significantly improved (I will most likely try lazer for this), but the rest of my face was pretty fantastic.I ended up getting bad breakouts again a little under a year later, and feel I would have benefited from having more micro sessions, even at least monthly or bi monthly to keep breakouts down. My breakouts got really bad again and my newly improved skin got back to where it was when I first went to get treatments.I have been getting treaments again. For some reason I dont feel it is improving as much as before.I seem to still have scars, though no breakouts.I am on session 9,and hope it improves.

caused cystic acne

I've had had mainly clear skin all of my life just suffering from hormonal breakouts. I never had had cystic pimples all of my life, maybe one or 2 my entire life and a week after getting Microderm I have gotten 4. Can anyone tell me if this is normal or not or when it will go away? I wanted to start getting Microderm more regularly but if this is what happens then I'll pass. My skin was completely clear before getting it and now it is absolutely freaking out.

Not worth it at all - biggest regret of my life!
Growing up I had hormonal acne during puberty. After 17, it all cleared up until I was 23. I got closed comedones all over my forehead as a reaction to a new make up product. In search of finding a solution, I had micro dermabtasion done to help - BIGGEST MISTAKE - not only did this not help, it caused SEVERE milia all across my chin and mouth area. Sandpaper feeling all over my "beard" area. Eventually, a nizoral shampoo mask and benzoyl peroxide gel daily mix cleared my forehead. But I was left with the WORST acne of my life. This milia has been persistent and has taken months to finally "almost" not even fully clear. I had to get on Retin-A .05 to unclog these suckers and even worse they turn into inflamed pustules, Whiteheads, some cysts .. just terrible. As the texture is getting better I'm stuck with hyperpigmentation and dark spots across my chin. I haven't been able to leave the house in almost 3 months and I am struggling to find hope but I'm starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel slowly but surely. This treatment is not worth the risks, please stay away. I wish I did. I forgot to mention, i actually have very thick skin. It can tolerate a lot and it's very oily. So I didn't think I would have side effects, boy I was wrong!

Hi, how is it doing now? I have similar results and it’s been almost three months now since the microdermabrasion.

I have recently gotten a microdermabrasion as well and have been getting milia all over my cheeks and forehead... What did you do to get rid of it?

Pros:

gets rid of acne faster than any topical cream ive used. helps scarring-- skin feels much cleaner and fresh afterwards

Cons:

dryness 2 to 3 days after. skin is sensitive for a couple days also.

my dermatologist reccommended it and also reccommended putting me on spuronalactone (forgive my spelling) it is medicine for blood pressure but he said it eliminated the male horomone in my skin that causes horomonal acne and it has worked great. the topical he gave me was called azelex and it also works very well. he also told me something i was doing wrong making my acne worse and i was using dial and ivory soap to wash my face with and he said that was one of the worst things i could rub on my face he reccomended neutrogena facial soap or equate soap and ever since i changed soaps it has made a huge difference. he also mentioned mineral makeup helps- he said almay, sheer cover would be a good choce and said to never use clinique or estee lauder because they have recently changed their chemicals and it causes worse breakouts and skin irritation for some people

Pros:

I found it to be very effective for clearing my acne scars (red marks) and helping prevent new breakouts.

Cons:

Pricey, I paid around $380 for 5 treatments. May be too harsh if your skin is very sensitive or if you're currently using creams that dry your skin out.

Not a long-term solution for active acne, but very effective at eliminating post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation (red marks and dark spots) relatively quickly.

Pros:

About ten people have told me my skin looks a lot better since I had the treatment done. Not too painful, quick recovery time, not traumatic, can do the treatments yourself

Cons:

My aesthetician charges $2000 for 6 treatments (combined microderm + retin-a + ultrasonic treatments) but I learned how to do it myself so it's cheaper.

I feel very grateful that I found a treatment that helps this much when I was quoted over $5K for laser resurfacing. The scarring is not 100 percent gone but it's about 60 percent better (which is what I was told I could expect with the laser). I am experimenting with other treatments to see how much smoother it can get but am lazy about it because my skin doesn't bug me like it used to. Plus I have a hard time staying away from caffeine and I don't like to do the treatments when caffeine is in my system because I think it prevents proper healing. I highly recommend taking 6000 mg of vitamin c, plus pycnogenol and collagen supplements after micro dermabrasion because it helps the skin heal properly and proper healing is a huge part of getting a good result. I'm listing the cost as $600 because that's about how much it costs to buy your own personal microderm machine and do everything yourself.

Pros:

fresh, cleaner looking skin

Cons:

replacing microbrasion cream

i bought myself a mictordermabrasion kit for r250 - and it worked brilliantly! after 2 weeks, i can see a visible difference in the reduction of my previously darkened scars - to a point where i am able to wear my hair up again. i have not had a break-out since i stated. absolutely worth the money!

Pros:

gets rid of dead cells, evens skin tone

Cons:

expensive, didn't help my acne

I first had Microdermabrasion done at Rizzieri's salon in Washington. It evened out my skin tone but didn't do much for my acne. I stopped going after quite a few treatments because it wasn't helping and was wasting money. Later on I went to Susan Bullock of the Washington Twp. Dermatology Center. She recommended Microdermabrasion for my acne so I gave it a shot a second time. She said their machine was stronger then the one used at Rizzieri's so I was convinced it would work out this time. A few months went by and there was no improvement in my acne. I still was breaking out and didn't see any difference in my Nothing. Nada. What a waste of money. I really wanted it to work out. They only tell you to get it done to cover the cost of buying Microdermabrasion machine. If you really want to try Microdermabrasion purchase a home kit and save your money. Derm-e has a Microdermabrasion product.

Pros:

Clears acne and scarring, and your face feels extremely smooth after.

Cons:

Your face is red and sensitive for a couple hours after.

Extremely worth it, especially if it is covered under your insurance like me. I saw results after my second one!
