Pros:

Improves skin texture and adds a glow, makes hair beautifully soft and shiny and very healthy looking.

I only just decided to start taking flax seed again to see if it improves my light to moderate acne break outs and improve my skin and hair like it had previously done, although I am a little hesitant because I have read reviews of those that have taken it and made there acne worse, but i'll give it go. I have used Roaccatane medication for the treatment of acne that I had a few years ago and while i was being medicated i was taking 2 capsules of flax seed oil a day and it improved my skin texture and made my hair soft and shiny, i would like to say to anyone using this kind of acne medication to try flax seed oil suppliments because as you may know the medication can be very drying to your skin and cause it to be very sensitive and prone to redness.

Pros:

Cheaper than retinoids
Readily available
Has lessened the severity of my acne
Skin, hair and nails are better
I think it helps my red marks
I didn't experience an initial breakout

Cons:

Not an overnight cure
Remembering to take it consistently

I have been taking this on and off for about a year but in the last 6 weeks or so I have made the decision to take this properly as directed everyday and see what happens. I have light-moderate acne at any time so at my worst I have about 10-15 pustules and very inflamed but on a regular day I have about 3-5. This has kept me around the 3-5 pustule range in about the last 2 weeks so I'd say it took about 3/4 weeks for me to notice any decent effects. Before I never took this supplement for this long so I didn't get to see this. There is no indication that my skin is going to massively break out any time soon either it seems pretty controlled so it's looking good for this. I also think that my skin is just better in general too and that it's not as dry. I have combination skin so I can get dry irritated patches and this has helped. I think it also helps the red marks left by acne to fade away faster too. Bottom line: try it! I'm surprised by the changes in my skin after 6 weeks and I'm definitely going to continue to take this :)

Pros:

Not entirely clear

Cons:

None whatsoever

There are a couple of reasons that cause the "pros" of my personal experience with flaxseed is not entirely clear; firstly, I have only been using it for 2 weeks, and secondly I am using it in conjunction with so many other skin care products it would simply be imposable to decipher what it was causing the improvement. However, there is a DEFINITE improvement. Until about 2 months ago I had no real problems with spots whatsoever - however a short way into my summer holidays an explosion of acne appeared that just would not budge. With my return to my final year of college approaching, and the angst that I had about coming back to clearer faces whilst mine had dramatically worsened, I invested in pretty much every tactic there is... unfortunately it was not soon enough and I was greeted with grimacing faces and baffled eyes. BUT, just half a week later, and I can already tell my skin is not only getting better but beneath the last surfacing spots and scars, it is healthy, smooth, and glowing. I'm hoping in a month I will be completely clear :) I've always resented my skin and thought myself so unlucky, but these past few months have taught me a tiny bit of patience and what's more given me the up most admiration for people who suffer with acne for years, some even half a lifetime. I had no idea how common it was for adults to be sufferers! Honestly, I think quite a lot of you deserve a medal, because acne really can be a complete sh*tter if you let it rule you. (I often do.) Completely forgot this was about flaxseed, if you aren't looking for a natter look straight here!: Flaxseed has a large list of health benefits, which is where my recommendation comes from. If your considering trying it, I recommend the ground form. The reason for it being ground is that in oil and capsules it doesn't contain 'photo-chemicals' and antioxidants, so it's possible the excess omega-3 without these could be causing some of the breakouts people are ha

Pros:

It is wonderful- absolutely wonderful for your skin tone. I am one of the most critical people I know and my skin impresses me more every day now that I consume flaxseed oil 2-3 times a day- I hear the term "glowing" regularly from everyone around me

Cons:

Innitial breaking out. Bathroom runs :P

You might experience breaking out, especially in the beginning- if your health is in even moderately poor condition and you eat fast food regularly, don't expect this to be a wonder drug. Adding something wonderful to your sh*t-filled system is like throwing a toilet bleach tablet down the sewer.. not very effective and it certainly messes with the chemical levels of everything now doesn't it. Flaxseed oil is a potent detoxifyer that unless ur contributing to it's benefits by 1. drinking a sh*t ton of water and 2. working out (increases circulation), you are simply wasting your time. Especially if you want it to help your acne because those things are essential to begin with duh. Detoxification takes place at the pores, thusly if you're already full of crap it's gonna come out your pores- your diet is everything. So get good with it and make miracles happen! Our bodies are magnificent machines and you will find that they are very forgiving. HEAL from bad choices, your body will love it

Pros:

Healthy glow... bowels very healthy!

Cons:

Serious breakout first few days of eating seeds.

I have been eating the seeds for about 2 weeks now and am starting to see some good results. I feel healthier and more energetic too! However, be warned that you may have more spots before it gets better- I had a week of nursing my new 'friends' but thought that it is just my body getting used to the new treatment and hoped that it would improve... which it did! Hallelujah... finally something that works from the inside. Have a go- but remember you may have to eat the seeds for at least a few weeks before seeing good results.

Pros:

My skin has become softer, and less breakouts.

Cons:

The capsules are quite large.

A woman at the spa recommended flax seed oil capsules to me and she said : The bacteria (acne) feed off the oil of my skin or.. "the taste" of my oils, and taking flax seed will tone down the flavors which will decrease breakouts. And it definitely have, i see a decrease in breakouts, but i also eat a lot of tuna, and green veggies which helps with skin. I suggest it!

Pros:

healthy, tasty if you mix it with a banana (for example)...and...

Cons:

I want to be careful as I read that taking more than 2 or 3 tablespoons of flaxseed (smashed) may change the hormonal balance....

and I read that estradiol may cause chloasma (sun spots due pregnancy) and flaxseed inhibits estradiol... so this can help me to get rid of some "sun spots" ... I am checking this because I remember that when I was taking like 3 tablespoons (that was too much but I didn't know by then...) the sun spots that I had became less noticeable... and somehow my face looked better... so I am returning to it.... I guess that the detail is also that when you begin to have flaxseed you have to try to reduce your intake of other oils... otherwise it can be be too much for you and acne may appear... In fact I began having this because I had something like blepharitis and now I don't have this and maybe the flaxseed helped me do it ... I suggest it ...
