Pros:

NONE for me!

Cons:

Broke out in very red inflamed cystic acne that kept getting worse for a month after I stopped the flaxseed oil. The antibiotic Doxycyclomine (not sure if I'm spelling it correctly) helped clear me back up.Plus I take B-5 - I only need 3 or 4 500mg once or twice a day.

I had been almost perfectly clear for over 5 years thanks to B5 keeping the oil in my skin normalized - the only thing that has ever kept me clear (other than while on Accutane). I read about the health benefits of Flax seed and I tried it to help me with terrible digestion problems. I wish I had never heard of the stuff - the break out was horrible and painful! Took me back to my miserable acne years only WORSE - and felt like forever to get clear again - leaves scars - I HATE it!

Pros:

The first 2 weeks of use I notices my skin getting smoother, radiant, softer.

Cons:

The 3 week I got severe cystic acne on shoulders, neck and upper back. Terrible!

At first I wasn't sure what caused the cystic acne but did some experiments with increasing and decreasing the flax seed oil. It was very obvious flax seed was the trigger of the cystic acne. Will never eat it again!!

Pros:

Gave skin a bit of glow. But virgin coconut oil does the same without the cons..

Cons:

..which comes in form of horrible cystic acne. I got it all over my back, shoulders, upper arms etc.

Only one pimple on my cheek but it scared me enough to just throw the whole bottle in the garbage.

Seems to be different for different people. My sister swears by it and does not have any acne problems with it. For me and others on this page, it seems to just make it worse. I used a bottle from the health food store and had about a tablespoon a day. The recommended dose.

Pros:

None for me!

Cons:

Oily skin with terrible breakouts from day one! Red patchy skin all over my face, lovely : (

I was recommended this by someone in a Holland and Barrett health food shop for my acne. After a few weeks of terrible skin I decided to look on acne.org to see if it was actually any good, and found all of the negative reviews...they are now in the bin!

Pros:

Good for other health benefits.

Cons:

I had moderate acne before trying flaxseed oil and grounded flaxseed (1 pimple every 2 weeks). I took 2 tbsp of flaxseed oil and 2 tbsp of grounded flaxseeds per day for 3 weeks. My face exploded with cystic acne all over my face. They were red and sore for weeks. I stopped taking flaxseed all together and the acne went away, but it left me with a ton of marks all over my face. I will never take this again.

It may work for others, but it was a HUGE mistake for me to take it. I'll stick with getting my EFA's from 4 tbsp of liquid fish oil which helped me so much and 2-4 tbsp of coconut oil per day.

Pros:

greatly improved my severely dry hands (I have ocd with handwashing) and improved my mood.

Cons:

severe acne

I used it for 4-6 weeks and had the worst skin of my life. Same thing happened to my friend. This supplement has amazing benefits (recommended for my vision but also helps with numerous other things), but I had to stop taking it because it wreaked havoc on my skin. I wish I wasn't allergic to it, but I'm not surprised because I also have allergies to caffeine, alcohol, and zinc. I have a clean diet because my system is very sensitive. Once I stopped taking flax seed oil, the acne went away. There isn't a "no acne" option in the "acne severity" box, but I have absolutely no acne whatsoever (thanks to pricy SK II products and Armani makeup lol but hey super clear skin is worth it to me).

Pros:

good for regularity

Cons:

allergic reaction - hives, acne-like eruption, redness, swelling, itching

i wasnt using the capsules. i was using the organic oil from a health food store. i was taking 2 tablespoons a day with food as opposed to like 4 capsules a day. the oil is supposedly better for u anyway. well, not for me! i was using the oil for a week and it ended up killing my face! i was in so much pain i was crying! i had to take benadryl to get the swelling down. so, if anyone is thinking about taking flaxseed oil, dont! or proceed with caution!

Pros:

Reduced my dry-eye symptoms (I wear contact lenses)

Cons:

Gave me really bad skin

My friend recommended this product to me because I wear contact lenses and find that towards the end of the day, my eyes become dry and tired. I took two capsules a day for 2 weeks. Although I did notice that my eyes felt less irritable, I was also getting really big, painful spots, deep purple and 'cystic'. My skin also felt greasier and I looked awful! It took me a while to realise that the spots began the day I started taking the capsules. I've since stopped taking this product and although I am still seeing new spots, they are smaller and less severe. Never again!

Pros:

None.

Cons:

Tried 1 tablespoon a day for only 3 days and within a week several deep, painful spots broke out along my jawline, much worse than any breakout I've had in years. The spots wouldn't come to a head and are still healing.

Never again.

Pros:

None

Cons:

Caused huge, sore cystic acne along my jawline and on my back.

I took 1 tsp of flaxseed oil a day for three weeks and got nothing but deep, cystic acne along my jawline and huge sore pimples in the middle of my back (never had any there before!) Oh and I also gained three pounds because of the extra fat intake from the oil. So this stuff obviously didn't work for me. I'm a 30 year old female who has had acne since I was 15 and there has never been a day in those 15 years when I haven't had at least a few pimples or more on my face. I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who didn't outgrow acne after puberty. So since the flaxseed caused me to break out worse and gain weight, I'm going back to using the Proactiv Extra Strength kit and drinking one cup a day of Wu Long tea, which seems to help, but I still wish I could find something that would make my face clear since I'm 30 years old!
