Pros:

Clears up skin
Makes skin soft
Smells good
All natural
Can be used as a moisturizer
Edible
Multiple uses: internal supplement, facial & body moisturizer, great shaving cream, for cooking and smoothies, hair oil

Cons:

Can make you feel greasy if you put just a bit too much on
Can be hard to swallow the minimum dose on its own (you should put it in a smoothie)
Could make you break out more

I had strangely dry & irritated skin around my chin a couple of years ago so I used coconut oil. It made me break out even worse so I stopped putting it on my face. I still used it as a shaving cream and nothing leaves my legs so smooth. Then I read it was good for thyroid health and I began having three tablespoons everyday in my smoothies/nut milks and sometimes using it for cooking. My acne started to clear up and my skin felt smoother. It's only been short of a month but this is the first month I didn't get horrible premenstrual break outs! So I started to put it on my face, just a very little bit every morning. It's only been a week but so far, my skin is staying clear and smooth. And as a last note, you must be very consistent when using it as an internal supplement. I used it inconsistently in the past and never got results like this until I had 3-4 tablespoons every morning. You may want to buy in bulk because you're going to go through a jar fast.

Pros:

85% of my body was once covered with eczema. Coconut oil cured it COMPLETELY within 3 months.

Eliminates whiteheads (I never had a problem with blackheads but I assume it will have similar effects).

Fabulous tanning oil.

Cons:

Do not use heavily on your face - it may cause a breakout. A little goes a long way.

It is antibacterial, antifungal, and filled with lauric acid. I swear by this oil because it healed me completely from scarring!!!

worked for me (READ MY TLDR IF YOU SUFFER FROM CYSTIC ACNE)
TRY IT. I've had cystic acne on and off since 4th grade, I'm currently a senior in high school. I put on coconut oil before going to sleep and it has improved my skin more than retin a and benzaclin. My advice is to at least try it. Something else that worked for me (I just want to put it here because the only way I found out about it was specifically looking it up), if you also get a cyst every month or so like I do, try drinking less or no milk (if you drink it). I used to drink tons of milk until a couple of months ago when I simply stopped drinking it as much. Every once in awhile I would have a glass of milk and the next day I would end up with a huge cyst on my face. After awhile I started noticing a pattern and decided to stop drinking milk altogether- it just isn't worth it. What I found strange is that no doctor ever brought this up that drinking milk could be the cause of my problems. I would advise to stop drinking milk in combo with coconut oil, it certainly can't hurt and it could end up being VERY worth it. I just wish someone had told me sooner. ***TLDR; TRY COCONUT OIL, DRINKING WATER, AND DRINKING LESS MILK. IT CAN'T HURT!!***

Pros:

Cheap, easy to use, smells good, can also use for lots of other uses like cooking and body/hair moisturizer

Cons:

A little expensive, hard to know which brand to choose

I use pure, unrefined coconut oil as a moisturizer 2x a day. Other steps in my regimen: no commercial beauty products whatsoever. I wash my face with baking soda, tone with ACV, drink 1tbsp of ACV a day, and moisturize with the pure coconut oil. Important to note: I also cut out nearly all dairy products about 4 months ago. (I'm of Asian descent and definitely lactose intolerant.) Results: No new major zits in over a month, for the first time in 2-3 years. When small zits happen, they dry up quickly and don't leave as much hyperpigmentation and scarring behind as I'm used to from before. My skin has more of a glow, and interestingly, my stomach feels better, too. I'm on my way to being clear, knock on wood, and will probably save over $150 dollars this year on commercial beauty products in the meantime. Conclusion: since I'm doing a combination of new things, it's hard to know exactly what effect the coconut oil is having. But I intend to keep up with it, and really enjoy using it!

Pros:

Soften skin
Give a glow
Reduces redness
Helps pimples heal faster
Prevents wrinkles

Cons:

Could cause breakouts for some
Greasy

I've been using coconut oil for a few months now. I apply it at night after washing my face and misting it with Avene thermal water. I apply only a small amount. Let it soak in and then apply Benzoyl Peroxide on top. Perhaps it's because I use it with Benzoyl it hasn't caused me to break out. My skin is pretty much clear since using it, a white head here or there but nothing that stresses me out and they go away so much faster. It's so much better than using products with chemicals that are bad for your body and lots cheaper. Make sure it's the virgin kind. I also use it on my whole body now and then and have used it to clear a yeast infection.

Pros:

-clears little bumps on your face
-smooths skin
-lightens skin pigmentation

Cons:

- you will break out at first, but its just your skin pushing the bacteria out so you wont break out again. so keep useing it!

ive had moderate acne for about a year now, i tired everything from neutragina to Skin ID and nothing worked.:( i was beginging to give up. THEN my mom was watching the today show and she learned about coconut oil. WELL! she went out and bought me some.(awesome mom) and told m,e to wash my face with this. i was sceptical about it at first, but i tried it anyway. in a week i instantly was seeing all my tiny flesh colored bumps start to become big and real zits. i was so mad! then i did some research and relized it was pushing the bacteria out of my face. and the zits didnt even stay for 3 days so it was ok:) but now they are gone and i have less bumps then i though. ive been useing it for a month now and i look more like a normal teenager.:) im begining to love my skin now:)

Pros:

Cheap, all natural, tightens my skin - shrinks acne

Cons:

I actually felt like it was drying for the first few days, but that could just be the weather changing right now..after about 4-5 days that went away, so maybe it's just part of the healing process

I've just been putting it directly on my skin (not using it in meals). It's a little oily for my liking during the day, but I'm sure if I used less it wouldn't be so bad! lol Think I'm addicted. I find it's totally worth it to use it twice a day instead of just at night. My skin has been acting up the last few months and this TOTALLY shrunk any large acne. As a bonus..I used it on a cold sore & it dried it up way quicker than normal AND takes away the itch. But basically, now that i've noticed it working, i used it on my nails too..haha..it's like natures' magic ;)

good but not great
I use it to remove make up and it works great. I do not recommend leaving this on your skin as It is a very heavy oil and will clog your pores without a doubt. It will make your skin break out but Hair is a different story. This is lovely as a hair mask. It is great for dry scalps.

Pros:

Inexpensive, effective, natural

Cons:

Smell

Before now I didn't have any issues with acne. I suffer from PCOS and was on birth control for many years which helped me have great skin. However, in the past year I've had to come off the pill and that's when my acne began. It got really really bad; both my cheeks and the skin around my mouth were covered with whiteheads, which would subside to dark red pimples. I tried a lot of things to get the acne and the scars under control, but nothing seemed to work. In my desperations though, I was buying very expensive products that were setting me back $60+ each. However, one day I was reading the ingredients and saw a lot of chemicals. I decided to look into essential oils. After doing some research, I decided to make my own facial cream. Because I wanted to use essential oils, I needed a carrier oil and chose coconut oil In the end, my facial cream turned out to be more of a facial serum, which was fine. I started using my serum and after two and a half weeks I can say that it's working. I no longer experience any major breakouts and the scars on my face are much less noticeable. I've gotten two zits since starting applying the serum to my face, both very small. I just wanted to share my experience because in doing my research I noticed a lot of ppl advising against using oils on the face. But in my experience, this serum has worked wonders. Granted, it was not just coconut oil, but I do attribute a lot of the benefits to the product. (This amt of serum is going to last me maybe two months, since I only apply a few drops to my face) 1.1 oz coconut oil, liquid or solid. 2 teaspoons jojoba oil 11 drops lavender essential oil 6-7 drops tea tree ess. oil 3 drops German chamomile ess oil 3 capsules of vit E 400 IU each. (With scissors cut tip of capsule and squeeze product out) I mixed the ingredients together and put the mixture in a dark glass container, keep it at room temperature and dip my finger in to g

Pros:

cheap, natural(no side effects),easily available, not drying, works, can be used on hair(makes it really soft.)

Cons:

hate the smell.

My dermatologist gave me a facewash that i've been using for a while, but it was over-drying my skin and making it red where it was dry so I couldn't use it very often. I wanted coconut oil for my hair anyways, so I used it on my face too. It reduced the size of an upcoming pimple and mosturized all the dry parts, making my skin even. Haven't even used it for that long. Hopefully it'll improve my skin alot.
