Cons:
- Very oily
- Smelly bedsheets
After repeated trial and error with coconut oil, I must say that ingesting it is the most effective means of curing acne. Applying it on externally only helps heal the scars and control breakouts but eating the stuff actually kills the bacteria within your body that starts the acne. You may not notice a difference at first, or perhaps start breaking out even more but that is just your body detoxing all of the bacteria and pushing it out. Take 5 teaspoons a day and after about a month, you will start to notice improvements. Be patient. It will certainly help improve your diet which will aid in eliminating acne. Ive been consistently eating it daily and my acne is practically gone, not to mention my skin looks incredibly healthy and vibrant.

COCONUT OIL CURES ACNE (Especially cystic acne)! READ!!
I know it might sound crazy putting oil on your face but I had crazy acne breakout..totally ruined my face. Mostly cystic acne. I used all the meds and crap and nothing would help it. So I took matters in my own hands!
1) Stop using all the topical ointments and any acne creams (this crap dries skin and just causes more break outs!)
2) Only wash your face with brown sugar. When I shower I would scrub my face with brown sugar.
3) Coconut oil. If you have acne breakout stop putting acne creams. If you can't eat it DON'T PUT IT ON YOUR BODY!
I would saturate my face with Coconut oil..if you're not going anywhere that day..just put a lot of coconut oil on your face and let the healing begin. If you have very active breakout put coconut oil with your finger tips on every spot. You don't want to massage the oil and spread the infection all over your face. If you start breaking out with coconut oil don't stop. Coconut oil is not making you break out. These breakouts would have happened anyway. What a lot of coconut oil on your face will do is it will tell your body to stop overproducing oil. Because there's so much oil on your face you will stop making all the oil that makes you breakout from inside. I've been using coconut oil for over a year now and I will never EVERRRRRRRRRR using anything else for acne. When I get a breakout..I wash my face with sugar. Air drying it or paper towel..you don't want to spread infection. Then I put coconut oil on the spot..massage it into the spot and next day the thing is freaking small and almost gone. If this coconut oil doesn't work for you find another one. Find pure Organic Coconut oil. You have to give this treatment time 1-4 weeks...when your skin clear you can find another moisturizer or stick with coconut oil. Add some vitamin C and Retinol to your face. Now that my skin has cleared I use Retinol and coconut oil 2-3 times per week. If I get a breakout I just go back to coconut oil.
4) stop eating too much sugar and salt and even coffee. this stuff can make you break out.

Pros:
Eliminates acne in it's tracks. Especially the cystic acne.
Cons:
None
I started using extra virgin cold pressed coconut oil the last few months and it brings all of your acne to a whitehead which is better than nothing. After a few days, the whitehead is gone and the pimple is dried up. It also helps to moisturize your face and help fade marks. I use it when I come home from work and right before bed and leave it on all night.

Pros:
Cheap price
Really works
no side effects
Cons:
none!
I heard about coconut oil from a friend. She told me she met an older woman in her 50's who looked like she was in her late 20's!! the woman said she's been using coconut oil on her skin for like 15 years (its apparently amazing for wrinkles..not that i have any i'm only 25). So i decided to look up reviews for the oil like i do with every other product before i buy it and came across this forum and others saying its really affective for acne. I've also read that about products that weren't affective at all but seeing people claim that it worked when they've been struggling for years with acne and nothing worked i decided to buy some because i had nothing to lose my face was already horrible with acne and deep red/purple scars and its pretty cheap to buy! I bought the Nutiva brand and LOVE it. smells amazing and tastes pretty good too. I decided to just use the oil to cleanse my face instead of my regular "acne stress control" cleanser because i heard its also good as a cleanser as well as a moisturizer. At bed time i rinse my face with hot water then massage the oil onto my face for a few minutes and then i rinse it off and pat it dry gently and then rub some on my face as a moisturizer. I wake up and repeat. Sometimes i even do it in the middle of the day too around like 3 just because i like my face to feel super clean. I've only been using it for about 3 weeks and my skin has cleared right up! I.ve seriously tried everything including Proactive and Clinique acne solutions, Neutrogena Skin ID, antibiotics, etc. and my last resort was Accutaine( or however you spell it) and i really did NOT want to mess with that stuff. I'm so glad that i tried the coconut oil because its really cheap to buy and its also got multiple purposes if it doesn't work for your skin. I use it as a hair treatment, as a body moisturizer, sunsceen, deodorant (yes it really works), and i put it in my tea for the health benefits it has. Apparently ingesting it can help your skin too. If you're skeptical about it and thinking...oh its going to clog my pores etc..it really doesn't. If it does you are probably using the wrong kind. Make sure its organic, extra virgin, unrefined! My skin is also really oily and it helped that too. So if you're skin is bad and you don't want to use medication and expensive products just give it a try and if it does make it worse for some strange reason then you can stop but at least give it a try I'm SO glad i did! And its also lightening my scars a lot too!=) I really wish i had known about this sooner so i could have gone without all the scars that acne has left!

Pros:
Heals cystic acne
Disinfects wounds (punctured skin)
Reduces redness
Unclogs pores
Moisturizes skin (noticeable within a week)
Great for minor burns
Cons:
Irritates the eyes
Can feel a little greasy to touch
I have oily, acne-prone skin and coconut oil works really well, nonetheless. This is my second time trying it. T, I didn't apply it the right way and applied way too much oil so I broke out. I was very skeptical and fearful at first but a little goes a long way. In the morning, I use a facial cotton pad to apply in gentle strokes a thin layer over my skin and leave it alone. I do the same in the evening and that's it. I use homemade organic soap to wash and pat dry with a clean towel. Nothing else goes on (except for SPF sunscreen for those sunny beach days). I used to use tea tree oil for acne spots but now, I don't even have to touch it. Coconut oil does everything my skin needs. Unless you're leaving it overnight, avoid apply the oil around the eyes. It can start to sting very slightly through the day. The acne started to calm down and heal quick. There's less redness and my skin feels very smooth. There's the occasionally purging of whiteheads but the cystic acne completely stopped. The oil does feel a little greasy to touch compared to all other facial lotions and cream but it's 100% natural. You know you're using the right stuff for your skin when your dog wants to lick the oil right off your face. The strong coconut scent can be disconcerting to some but you'll be glad to know that the scent does fade out after an hour or so. Give it time and you'll see good results. You'd want to get extra-virgin or virgin coconut oil, oil that is cold-pressed and unrefined (as a few have mentioned here) and organic. The coconut scent is full-bodied and sweet, almost creamy and earthy. Just to add, I controlled my acne, free from any oral and topical medication with good nutrition, identifying my food intolerance, staying hydrated all day and with coconut oil. No other combination has worked as well for me. Hope this helps!

I will never put face wash on my face again.
I wanted to stop by and put a review out there about my personal coconut oil success. I don't use certified organic, but regular Louann coconut oil. It is non-hydrogonated, non-GMO. I purchase in the baking isle of the grocery for about $6 and go through a jar every 6-8 weeks. I used to have extremely oily skin that would get huge volcanic like pimples about once or twice a year and always had those pesky blackheads, but otherwise, acne was something always on my heels, but not quite a conquerer of my skin. Now on to the good stuff. I startd using the OCM (oil cleansing method) about a year a go using jojoba oil and keeping up with my face wash regiment. I wasn't getting any of the results I hoped for. Then I read a blog published by a man who hasn't used soap in over a year. Sounds nasty at first, but stay with me. To basically summarize, you only use soap on the parts that matter if you know what I mean *wink wink* and ONLY a warm, soft washcloth to "wash" the rest of your body and to exfoliate while in the shower. Once you've rinsed and turned off the shower, smear the oil on your whole body while still wet- face too. Then towel dry. This will take off the excess oil. I should say now that I still wash my hair like normal, and sometimes I still use regular soap. Like maybe once a month. But I have not used face wash in almost a year. I will never put soap on my face again. If you google coconut oil, you will be amazed by the anti bacterial property it possesses and the science about how like dissolves like etc...I sometimes wash my face with the coconut oil then rinse with warm water then smear a small amount after the makeup has been rinsed away and pat dry. My husband comments on my skin regularly and I routinely have people tell me I look much younger than I am. And that oily skin I used to have? No more. I am not exaggerating when i say I haven't used foundation, or powder on my skin in months. I am SO in love with my skin now that I wouldn't dare put anything on it other than a quick swipe of bronzer. I did get little white heads occasionally usually around my my mouth that I finally linked to teeth brushing! So now I put a little oil after brushing.

Pros:
Miraculous product. Initially terrified to put oil on my face for acne treatment. Cheap and EFFECTIVE (with the right amount) for acne and healthy hair.
Cons:
If you use too much your face will be oily. The trick is to use a TINY amount.
I use virgin, cold-pressed, unrefined, organic coconut oil from Nutiva. All I did was replace my moisturizer with coconut oil. Smart SMALL - to the point where it's too little and your face is almost dry. Then increase to find the perfect balance for your skin. I never had a problem with acne until I started grad school, and then my chin and forehead exploded. I invested in numerous types of treatments, moisturizers, cleansers, and just thought I couldn't find the right products for me. Until I thought I would take a risk...since I didn't have much to lose...and I am AMAZED. I wake up every morning expecting to find the horrendous consequences of using oil on my face. Instead, my chin and the rest of my face is COMPLETELY clear. I literally have not had a single whitehead since I started using the oil. Surprised? So am I! For the first time in two years, I walked out the door without putting on any cover up. I'm sure this method won't work for everyone - but it is certainly worth the risk if it does! It may be beneficial also that I use a mineral powder foundation that can absorb the oil if I put on a little too much. However - I have been using this for years, so I know it isn't affecting my acne directly. I also started using it on my hair as a leave-in conditioner when I get out of the shower. It's best to use it towards the ends of your hair and not near your scalp. Once again...don't use too much or you'll look like a grease-head. I had numerous people - even men (who usually don't notice such things) - comment on if I got it dyed, or cut, or treated professionally in the first few days of using the oil. I hope you find as much success with coconut oil as I did!

Pros:
Awesome for baking.
Works well as a natural deodorant.
Cons:
Can make acne spin wildly out of control.
I've had moderate acne for 20+ years that has been, until now, well controlled with BP and glycolic acid. In attempt to step away from harsher methods, I researched more natural approaches and decided to give extra virgin, unrefined coconut oil, 2x a day, a try. My face broke out with little white pustules on Day 3. Within the week, my entire face (including places that generally weren't active) was covered with what could be described as a carpet of black and whiteheads. Hoping this was simply the "healing crisis" I had read about, I continued for an additional 3 weeks. That was a huge mistake. My face was so swollen and active with acne that it actually hurt to wash it. The good news: A few days after stopping the coconut oil, the generalized swelling went down. The bad news: The carpet of little bumps is taking forever to go away, even with the reintroduction of BP and glycolic acid. In addition, I have developed ~ for the first time in my life ~ painful, deep, cystic acne. It has been a full 6 weeks since I've stopped applying coconut oil, and my skin is still a mess, with dark marks from old cysts lingering and brand new, huge bumps popping up next to them. Please be careful if you decide to give CO a try. If you think it's making your acne worse, then STOP! Do not continue like I did with blind faith and desperate hope for clear skin. (If you find yourself stuck with a giant jar of the stuff, it's great for baking, and it is an effective deodorant.) I will come back and leave an update on my "recovery" from this for those of you who are curious or may be going through the same thing. Take good care, and I hope you find what works for you!

Buy this product if you want clear skin!
I don't even know where to begin with my holy grail oil but my number one piece of advice is to stick with it. I bought my first jar of coconut oil around 2 years ago as I had read it can help to clear up acne however, it caused me to breakout so I stopped using it pretty much straight away. Around a year ago I decided to give it a go again as it had done wonders to my hair. Long story short, it did break me out for a while but I now see this as a purging stage where the oil was clearing the pores. However, I stuck at it and my skin began clearing up after a week or so. Now, I use this to remove my makeup (BEST makeup remover ever!) and cleanse my skin morning and night and it works wonders!! Plus it has made my skin so smooth, hydrated and less red. I used to have such bad cystic acne since I was 13 (I am now 18) so the fact this natural product has cleared it up is no short of a miracle. It has changed my outlook on curing acne in that you don't need to buy expensive products filled with harsh chemicals to clear the skin. I also use coconut oil to oil pull (google it if unsure) and it has helped to whiten my teeth and improve my breath (as well as a whole host of internal benefits). Please buy a jar of this if you want clear skin. I realize that everyone's skin reacts differently to different products so if it doesn't work it can be used as a hair mask (which will work wonders in anyone's hair) instead. Oh and make sure it's extra virgin organic cold pressed coconut oil (anything else has been filtered to remove the goodness).

Very multipurpose, but not great for the face.
First I want to say that I love coconut oil as a multipurpose product. I'll never be without a jar in my house. I use it as a pre-shampoo hair mask, for shaving my legs, moisturizing my elbows and knees when they're extra dry, and for DIY body scrubs. There are a million uses for it and I love it for that. However, that being said, I will rate it accordingly for facial care as I only feel that is fair. It's rated a 4 out of 5 on a comedogenic scale and I am adding myself to the list of many who have broken out from it. Less than a week of using it nighly caused papules and pustules around the areas I tend to break out (my cheeks). It also seems to take longer to absorb on the face than it does on the rest of my body. I honestly don't recommend giving it a shot because it is the rare acne-prone individual who has good luck with it, but if you do try it, proceed with caution.
Pros:
- Your skin will glow the next morning
- A little goes a long way; dont overdo it
- Place over popped pimple and it will close it up, remove blemishes, and heal it overnight
- Works better when ingested
