Cancelling Membership
You cannot cancel the membership online. They send products and charge your credit card without prior notice they are doing so. Yes, I am aware they state they will send the items every 8 weeks but Exposed Acne send an email a week before the item is due to be dispatched and the customer has the opportunity to cancel the shipment if they still have lots of the product remaining. I have had a membership with them for 2 years but thought I would try Proactiv. I found the photo on this website: [link removed] laughable as this was so relevant to how pathetic the ordering system is with ProActiv. Would never recommend this company to anyone. DONT USE THEM UNLESS YOU WANT YOUR CREDIT CARD DEBITED EVERY MONTH WITHOUT YOUR KNOWLEDGE !!!!!!!!!!!!!

An absolute con
I used the original proactive in high school with mild success but since they changed the formulation it's become in effective garbage at 3 times the old price. And be warned! Not only do they automatically send you a replacement 90 day kit and charge your credit card, but they now break the price of the 90 day kit up into 3 payments "for your convenience" without telling you so you don't realize the useless 90 day kit actually costs $150 not $64 until after their 60 day return is up. I would never purchase anything from them again and as a pharmacist I can tell you all that a bottle of 5% Benzoyl Peroxide from a local pharmacy will work better than proactiv's 2.5% version for much lower cost.

This system is a scam and a joke.
Nothing about this product line is revolutionary or innovative in anyway. It is the basic benzoyl peroxide & salicylic acid combination that can be bought from any brand or store. Maybe this works for some, but for me it didn't prevent a single active acne spot from emerging, it only harshly scrubbed away at my skin leaving it more red than before. I think I may have scarred worse just from using Proactive. I have had much more success in lowering my sugar intake, eating more vegetables, exercising, and taking the supplements Vitamin B5, Vitamin A (retinol), L-Cysteine, Milk Thistle, Niacin and Selenium. Proactive only worsened my situation. This company needs to spend less money on advertisement and more money on researching the true causes (yes, plural) of acne i.e. low glutathione, excess estrogen, vitamin & mineral deficiences, thyroid imbalances, chronic internal inflammation. This company only cares about profiting off of the pubescent and the insecure. The actors in the their commercials have probably had one pimple in their life which was fixed by Proactive.

Pros:

Easy to order

Cons:

* Irritated my skin terribly
* Terrible customer service
* Looking for any way to get your money

I was tired of my minor to moderate acne, and really wanted to try to make it better before my wedding. I had had good results with benzoyl peroxide products in the past, so I thought trying Proactiv was worth it. It was easy to order, and arrived fairly quickly. I had paid for the expedited shipping, but it didn't arrive in anywhere near the claimed timeframe. So call #1 to customer service to refund the shipping charges. Within a week of starting use, my face was red, itchy, and just plain irritated. I cut back on use for another week, but my skin only got worse. I tried using it every other day for another week, but still, only worse. I stopped my shipments, but another shipment arrived a few weeks later. Call #2 to customer service - apparently my account hadn't been closed. I sent that shipment back immediately, but two months after that, I got a bill that my account was overdue. Customer service contact #3 (this time in email so I had something in writing), and found out that my account was STILL not cancelled. Plus, they hadn't received my return. The next bill I received was threatening sending me to collection. A final call to Customer Service, when I found out that I was still being charged for the returned shipment because it took "85 days for the warehouse to process the return", which is outside of their 60 day return policy. I returned that shipment within 30 days. So I will pay the bill for a product I never used, that didn't work for me. I would be wary to recommend anyone trying it.

Pros:

Easy steps to follow. Great Exfoliator.

Cons:

EXTREMELY harsh for sensitive skin. Left me with burns that took weeks to clear up. Cancelling your order and stopping future shipments leaves you frustrated after dealing with sketchy excuses as to why they "can't stop the future charges" even if you cancel long before your scheduled shipment.

If you have a SEVERE acne problem and your skin is not sensitive, it would be fine. If you have problems with small blemishes and your skin is even slightly sensitive...DON'T USE THIS. Also, don't expect to seriously have a "trial" of this product. They will charge you for the next month long before your "trial" is up and tell you it will take 4-6 weeks to get your money back to you. The customer service with this company is AWFUL. They are full of excuses and very sketchy. I will NEVER try to use any thing they offer and I would NEVER suggest them to a friend.

Pros:

Quick results
Really does help with breakouts

Cons:

Over time, can be extremely dehydrating
Bleaches clothes

Proactiv reminds me a little of the double-edged sword that is chemotherapy. Yes, chemo can kill cancer, but it also almost kills you in the process. The same is true with Proactiv - the BP will kill your acne, but it will also strip your skin of many essential oils and nutrients. I used this for years, only going off of it when my skin got clear enough that I felt that constantly applying BP to good skin would be damaging. What I noticed was that as much as my breakouts were kept at bay, Proactiv ultimately made my skin more sensitive and dry, as well as rougher in texture. What scared me was the fact that after accidentally wiping a tiny bit of my shirt, the cotton bleached and eventually became thinner and thinner until it formed a hole. The idea that I was putting such a harsh chemical on my FACE every day kind of freaked me out. I think there are natural methods to improving skin that are far better than creams/lotions like Proactiv that basically kill everything.

Pros:

Skin feels clean
Makes skin tones even and pores clear (where there is'nt acne)

Cons:

Doesn't stop breakouts

I was so hopeful because of all the fuss about this product there are so many ads. It would be great for someone who already has a decent complexion and wants to even skin tones and improve pore appearance. It just doesn't work on actual acne. Waste of money!
